Left a Buyer Negative Feedback and Rating But They Are Showing 100% Positive Feedback

I left  negative comment and a negative rating for a buyer who did not pay AFTER I cancelled the transaction per the policy and AFTER eBay requested the feedback.

I did not violate policy as others originally stated by some in the "now deleted" post. My rating matched the comments. The buyer did not ask me to modify the comment nor the rating.

The user had other feedback that was similar (negative comments but a positive rating) so there is obviously something off.  They only had 3 feedbacks - all negative comments but 100% positive rating.

Unfortunately, I was not able to see the feedback prior to sending out an offer since I am not able to see who is a watcher on an item.

Has anyone seen this before?

That's not a recent feedback that a seller would have left. Since 2008, buyers can ONLY receive positive feedback.

That feedback would have been left between 1995-ish and 2008 and is over 16 years old..

never said it was recent

Re: Left a Buyer Negative Feedback and Rating But They Are Showing 100% Positive Feedback

Unfortunately, you did violate policy by giving them a positive rating and then leaving a negative comment. I saw those 3 feedback and all of them were done the same way. The customer probably asked ebay to remove them and they did, because they ARE against policy. You very well might have a deficit, on your account, for doing that. The only way to report a customer for non-payment is to cancel the transaction and indicate that they didn't pay. You cannot put it into the fb. As I said yesterday, those 3 green positives gave them a 100%. A negative brings your score down, but you can't leave them for a buyer. Stinks, but that's how it goes. Positive and negatives are what are used to determine the score. Neutrals are not included.

If you are going to leave feedback to warn other sellers you may need to get creative.

A+ A+ A+ A+ Thank you so much for not paying !!!!!!!! I sold it for more the next time!!!!!!!!!!!

If the buyer reports your negative comment left in a positive form, it will be removed, and your account will be sanctioned with a defect. It all depends if he reports it to Ebay or not.

Let me correct you.

COULD be removed and you MAY be sanctioned. eBay does not bother from all that I can tell, even if you report the seller. Doesn't mean they never do, just not my experince that they do. Even though this is supposed to be a major no-no, it appears eBay couldn't give a fig anymore. They apparently do not want to enforce that rule.

Of course we know that technically they were not a buyer, but it’s much easier to type than person that did not pay.  I don’t know what glitch you are referring to.  I can see a false positive you gave recently.  By design there isn’t a negative rating available to pick from for a person that didn’t pay.

I dunno. Back in the day this person would also be referred to as the NPB (non paying bidder). But I’m kinda liking the new term “person that did not pay.” Sounds like what they used to call Voldemort. 🙂

And this wasn't the "normal" screen where as a seller, you can leave feedback such as "custom" or "stored feedback".

Hi @cminichiello0528 . From everything you've said, I believe you were on this page:

https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/leave_feedback

Stars appear only when leaving FB for sellers. If you made a recent purchase, it's possible you saw the item you purchased directly above the item that wasn't paid for, and thought the stars for your purchase were tied to the non-payer's line item. That's definitely within the realm of possibility.

I do not think you are making anything up, but I do believe you misunderstood what you were looking at, perhaps you were moving through things quickly.

If there was some kind of test, as others have speculated above, please take a screenshot if you see it again and come post it here! People posting changes here is, unfortunately, how we usually  learn about them since eBay's awful when it comes to communicating changes.

Go to this page:

https://commspreferences.ebay.com/commsprefs

Scroll down to "general preferences" and turn off feedback reminders. Then you won't be pestered to leave feedback for non-payers (or anybody).

If you like, you can set up automatic feedback for buyers here - I think it's an incredibly useful and time-saving feature: https://www.ebay.com/uas/selling-pref?show=automated_feedback

I don't put a single thought into leaving buyer feedback since it's automated. I save space in my brain for more important things. 😉

The good news here on violating a policy you weren't aware you were violating, is you said the buyer has a lot of similar FB. That means the buyer is highly unlikely to report your FB to eBay so you might skate by on this one. And now you know not to do it again. I saw someone's account suspended when they kept violating that policy. Sounds crazy, but they were an habitual offender.

Hope at least some of this helps.

And if I were the buyer for whom a seller left that FB, would contact eBay and get it removed in less than a moment.

Re: Left a Buyer Negative Feedback and Rating But They Are Showing 100% Positive Feedback

I cancelled the transaction since they did not pay.

When you cancelled the unpaid transaction, the deadbeat got a Strike .

You can automatically Block any bidders with Strikes.

Most sellers do Block bidders with Strikes.

EBay does not use feedback to assess member accounts.

Who do you think you were leaving the FB for?

The deadbeat knows they didn't pay.

The deadbeat got punished for nonpayment with a Strike.

EBay doesn't use FB to assess member accounts.

Most sellers never see buyer feedback , because over 85% of transactions are Fixed Price, or Buy It Now on an Auction, or are a last nanosecond bid on an Auction, and the seller does not see who is buying until they buy.

The only ones who see you leave negative FB for the deadbeat are your future customers, and they don't see the deadbeat's name, only that you badmouth customers.

Basically, you are being protected from your own bad temper and poor judgement.

@kensgiftshop--If you used nonpayment as the reason to cancel the order, neither side could leave feedback.

Good point.

The OP left a false positive which is not allowed, instead of using the 96 hour automatic Cancellation process which gives deadbeats the abovementioned Strike.

So the deadbeat got off scot free.

@wastingtime101 The good news here ... is you said the buyer has a lot of similar FB. That means the buyer is highly unlikely to report your FB to eBay so you might skate by on this one.

It also means that they are  buying from a lot of sellers who don't know how to use the Seller Protection policy that we call Strikes.

If all those false positives had been UID Strikes, that deadbeat would likely have been booted.

Re: Left a Buyer Negative Feedback and Rating But They Are Showing 100% Positive Feedback

Which reminds me ...

Hey @cminichiello0528 , go to this page:

https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

You've already added the buyer to your blocked list, but take a look at the settings under Buyer Requirements. The most strict block you can apply is to block buyers who caused 2 cancellations of unpaid purchases within 12 months.

That will help you avoid at least some non-payers in the future. Don't forget to hit the slider that says "Apply above settings to active and future listings" before you click the submit button.

Would you? It might be a shake of the magic eightball if you use the report seller link. I have reported two sellers in the last month, neither false positive was removed. Both were problem sellers. Neither false positive was removed.

Since we know phone support is about non existent, that's a waste of time.  And since I have no social media, I do not have the avenue to use.

Sometimes folks have entirely too much confidence in what eBay will or will not do. eBay does not follow it's own rules. It arbitrarily enforces them selectively when it feels like it.

No need to be rude and infer that I am hallucinating. I know what I saw and I know what I did and I know the different between an eBay pop up window asking for the star rating versus the feedback rating that I saw for the "buyer".  This was a different U.I. or "page"  than how I normally leave feeback for legit buyers.

@cminichiello0528

I didn't "INFER' that you were hallucinating....YOU did so I just confirmed that you WERE if you THOUGHT you were seeing things that are not there (as shown in YOUR quote from a previous post you made in your thread):

Then there is a glitch.

I am a seller and after I cancelled the transaction, I was prompted to leave a rating AND feedback for the "user".  For this particular user, they also had similar feedback due to non-payment.

So yes, this happened. I am not hallucinating.
