PayPal checkout integration broken by recent rolling update

(I already posted this under "eBay Community > Buying and Selling > Member to Member Support" and under "eBay Community > Discussion Boards > Buying & Selling > Payments" before I found out about this monitored-by-Ebay "eBay Community > Discussion Boards > Inside eBay > Technical Issues" forum. If I had known about this forum I would have posted here only.)

Ebay removed the "View full page" link from the PayPal checkout pop-up during a recent rolling update to the U.S. Ebay website, some time between March 20, 2017, and April 9, 2017. Previously, clicking on this link displayed the PayPal URL in the browser address bar and allowed users to verify the PayPal SSL certificate, using the functionality provided by their web browser for this purpose, before entering their PayPal username and password.

Since the update this is no longer possible. Instead only the Ebay address is displayed in the address bar and users are expected to enter their PayPal username and password on the Ebay website. Really? And PayPal is going along with this?

Apparently, Ebay and PayPal think that just because some of their users are dumb it is okay for them to be dumb too.

My workaround is to pay for Ebay purchases with a credit card instead of PayPal or Ebay Bucks. How is everybody else coping with this issue?

Re: PayPal checkout integration broken by recent rolling update

Coping here by not buying off of the site. There are other merchants but this is unfair to the EBay sellers. For weeks I have been experiencing the issue when eBay tries to contact PayPal, but previously able to resolve it by clicking Full Page on the PayPal window which opened up. Now that full-page option is not there, as you confirmed above, and thanks to you in your description of issue #1 we see it's a security problem too. Thank you very much for posting this because EBay gave the runaround the other day, blaming credit and everything else, when it is clearly a technical problem, as it doesn't work on multiple browsers.

Re: PayPal checkout integration broken by recent rolling update

Ebay has still not come to grips with this issue, which has been going on for several months now. I contacted them through their new Concierge online help service, but to no avail, they just blamed PayPal, my 3 computers, my cookies, and various other things as their lame excuse for their inability to fix this nonsense. I responded to then and told 'em to take a hike. Such a shame, as I've been with eBay since 1995!

Re: PayPal checkout integration broken by recent rolling update

I cant checkout from today I tried everything (before tahat, for several months, I had to log in to paypal twice, and second time would aleways work)

Now it hangs at "checking your info", in Paypal ebay popup, I tried everything, cookies, 3 browsers, 2 ebay websites etc etc nothing worked.

I spent almost 2 hrs on this.

I dont know what you think by  this "frame solution" I never use firefox and I cant find this option it it.  I even dont know how to find which version is my firefox...

All this is really unbelievable.

Re: PayPal checkout integration broken by recent rolling update

I was able to work around this issue by copying the url from the pop-up window into a new tab in the main browser window.

Re: PayPal checkout integration broken by recent rolling update

Yeah eBay sure messed this up!

When I called the poor support person had NO idea what to do and put me on hold. Came backwith  still 'never heard of this problem' and no idea what to do BUT

While I was on hold I opened up a chrome browser window and found check out worked just fine using PayPal there. Support person was so relieved I had a solution - so I explained it carefully so he could help the next person who called.

So another solution - use a different browser and see if that fixes the problem for you.

I really don't want to use the browser I only use for work because I am forced to do so but I also don't want to waste my PayPal balance when I could buy items with it instead of a CC!

Of course I wonder how many people will stop buying when their PayPal doesn't work...
