Can no longer use eBay gift cards for auctions

eBay has changed the payment process for bids such that you have to tell them your payment method when you bid on an item. It has to be a credit card, Paypal, or Venmo, but eBay gift cards can no longer be used. I verified this with Customer Service....

Why do I have 4 days to pay on some auctions, and on other auctions that I win, ebay immediately starts the clock countdown to process my payment automatically within 1 hour?
