Starting the week with a zero balance, I had one item sell in 7 days, it went for $15, plus $9 shipping. I printed the label, shipped the item, the label cost me $8.96. It sold through the global shipping program. After fees, I see ebay sent $2.25 to my bank account.
I've seen a few other sales that didn't add up right, but figured there was maybe some fee that didn't catch up from a past item, but this time it was clear, only one item sold, no balance positive or negative. The customer paid $24, after fees it showed $19, then minus the $9 shipping, it should have been $10.
Regardless of the odd payout, what they don't say in the fees listing is that since they take fees from both the shipping and tax total, the actual percentage in the end is more like 33%. (Buyer bid $15, I shipped for a few pennies less than it quoted, and balance should have been around $10 by my math, but it was somehow $2.25).
On average, the shipping is less than quoted, so shipping isn't the problem, the extra shipping charged should cover what they take. But when the total sales amount for an item minus the shipping actually charged and the final value fee is 2/3rds of what it sold for, that's not 15%. I can't see how if they charged 15% of the $24 the buyer paid, which would leave me $20.40, then minus the $8.96 shipping label, the balance should have been $11.44. On most items I've checked on individually, the total balance after fees that I collect has been closer to 67% or so of the sell price, a few were far less.
One item that comes to mind sold for $380, and I collected $270 after fees and shipping were paid. I didn't lose anything on shipping, so it had to all go to fees. It was the only item sold in a 14 day period and it showed no listing fees when I put the ad up.
The only thing I could figure was that eBay charged the final value fee off of what he paid for global shipping.
I think the buyer total was around $444. I charged only $11 shipping, which is what the calculator came up with for flat rate shipping to Global shipping center.
Do we lose money that way when an item sells globally?
I don't generally list anything under $50, but it was the last one and it hadn't sold so I dropped the price to move it. I'd have almost been better off if I just threw it away.
I see sellers listing low dollar items all the time, there's no way its worth the hassle to sell when you figure the time it takes to pack, print a label and ship each item.
After checking, every time the balance didn't add up, it was a Global sale. Are we paying fees on the added shipping they charge the buyer to ship overseas? Nothing else would explain the amount being charged.

Sounds like you need to increase the price of the items you sell. Maybe by your 33%. That way the buyer pays all the fees.

There are SO many of these threads.
Sellers who have no idea what fees are or apply until after the sale? The information is readily available before and during the listing.
And yet, these type of threads are regularly posted on here.
How Paypal fees could have been such a mystery to Sellers previously is mind boggling.

Are you sure there wasn't a charge of something besides the fees, etc..... something like the store monthly fee, another label charge..........before they sent the payout....... there's no way the fee was that much, unless you had extras.......reserve/bold title, etc......which I doubt you did........

Exactly!
These supposed 'ignorant' sellers can take all this time to post and whine but they don't take the time to read about the company (eBay) they do business with 🙄

Payments ---> Payouts ---->
Click on the "Payout ID"
This shows what numbers determined the payout.....
Under "Related transaction:"
Date Description Amount Fees Net Details
Then over to the right column you can drill down even further by Clicking "View" under details
It should show you how they determined 2.25
I ship many items with GSP...The FVF is determined by:
EXAMPLE of a sale that TOTALLED $151.90 to the customer in AUS
How did I get these numbers....same way I described above.....
just look.....all the numbers are there somewhere.....

The numbers are all there to clarify what was taken out. You probably have to click around to find them, but they are all there.

$15 + $9 + $2.40 (tax max 10% incl shp) is....... $26.40
12.55% plus .30 would be $3.61 Total Fees
$26.40 minus $3.61 minus $9 shipping minus $2.40 tax collected (figuring you took shipping $ from Pending Funds..and I'm rounding here for simplicity)
Leaves $11.39 (give/take .10c) should be deposited.
As stated by others; were there 'other fees' for that listing ie. Bold, 2nd Line, Reserve etc?

Find your payment transactions on this page and click View under the Details column, @njfleamarket.

The 1st item you described is not a good fit for eBay. You are just going thru the motions of selling for a minute profit.
The fees are out there to view as others have stated.
Know the fees, shipping costs and set pricing to make your desired margin.

I've had so many disputes with them over the phone. It all turned out to be accurate. was angry to find out they charge fees on the taxes as well. I'm about to turn off international shipments. Fees are not even close to 12%. Expect to pay 20% or more with every item you sell.

Years back, sellers would list $20 items for $0.01 and $19.99 shipping. I imagine that played a factor in the change to apply fees to shipping.

On the bold title thing.... Ebay applies it randomly when you list! It did it to me the other day.... I didn't notice the $4.00 fee until I pushed list and saw it immediately as it was listing. I immediately went and edited it.... But TOOO LATE - they already charged me the $4.00! There needs to be a safety on that $4.00 bold title field, because I PROMISE I did not push that radio button to select it..... but there it was! Unreal! This happened another few times to me, and the first time I noticed it, I called Ebay, of course they say there's nothing they can do! It aggravates me that this is allowed to continue. If you immediately remove it, you *SHOULD* not get charged.... or get a credit... but you don't!

Right now im questioning the handling of buying shipping labels as reported income i sold a item for 25 dollars and the actual shipping was 11. so they said i made 36 dollars minus their fee and tax after all said and done it was 20.18 but they are reporting 31.18.. how did i gain 6 dollars .. a shipping label is not income .. then i talked to a lady .. she did the best she could but .. they have her brainwashed .. the post office made the 11 dollars not me .. once I get all my stuff listed im going to check out mercia

absolutely right they can be making any money.. how can e-bay add the price of the shipping label to your income .. when the post office gets that money
