NEW eBay Guaranteed Delivery Thread

Its important. Its bound to drag exposure for regular listings down even further. Now that the TRS discount is slashed in half, its not worth having 1 day handling for many sellers (like myself) anymore. Not everyones orders go in bubble wrappers and small boxs. Its just not worth it if your packing heavy or big, time consuming orders anymore. Dropping TRS and not opting into this new program thats horrible for average to medium sized sellers, will push listings further and further down the page for otherwise great sellers.

As the article im posting a link to at the bottom mentions, ebay does intend for us to pay for the shipping refund a buyer gets if their package is past the guaranteed date. Money will come from our pockets. So if your not big enough to absorb the losses, or sell items with many many multiples where its finacially worth it to do everything to stay on the top of the list. For the average seller of single item listings though, your getting the shaft.

Ebays new changes make it so you have to jump through hoops to get the TRS exposure (because the discount is almost useless now). Take 30 day returns and ship next day for peanuts, but if you dont, exposure goes down. Now with this and the new promoted listings, you will have to pay ebay way more in for the listing, AND have to refund shipping (or take it back if they want) if it doesnt make it in 3 days.

So, if we dont want to get buried by big business compitition, and continue to get the same exposure we get today, we would need to continue to jump through hoops for the now useless TRS Plus listing discounts, pay extra for promoted listings, and offer 3 day guaranteed delivery or the shippings free. Just to end up at the same exposure. As it sits now only bigger companies can afford to absorb all these expenses. Its just wrong.

Is this the new direction the new young CEO wants to go? Hes dong a major diservice to many of his best sellers. He seems to forget that unlike Amazon (Amazon Prime - which is what he is attempting to compete with), ebay doesnt have a warehouse full of employees to expidite shipping. Plus they dont own the merchandise, nor have 3rd party items in their possession. Its not their guarantee to make, and to then make US refund shipping if its a day past their made up date!? Ridiculous.

Am I alone on this one?

Under the new eBay program, if a product doesn't arrive in the guaranteed time, both eBay and the seller will chip in to refund shipping costs. If an item was shipped for free, eBay and the seller will provide an eBay coupon, expected to be $5, Lawton said. Two-thirds of the products on eBay include free shipping, according to the company.

I know alot of the packages I send can cost anywhere from 10 to 100 or more sometimes to ship. MANY of them are not making it in time even though I ship mostly priority. I live on the east coast and many orders are from CA. I cant help but think this program wont last long before its either ended or switched to only door to door guarantee. Ebay will be losing tonssssssssss of cash.

I COULD meet the 0-1 day handling, as I've been doing it for 2 years as a TRS.  However, I refuse to do it for a measly 1% discount.  I am actually looking forward to selling at a more relaxed pace.

Same here.

What I don't understand is that the suits want sellers to ship faster, however, by taking away my TRS, I will be shipping slower as I recently changed to 2-day handling.

I assume from what I read here that many others are doing the same.

This whole fiasco seems to have backfired on ebay.

I'm only 1/2 way through this thread with very little time left that I can spend reading here tonight but I would like to ask this, please.

I am a TRS Plus.  I have had 1-day handling on all my listings and 99% of the time for the last few years have been able to ship the following day after payment has been received and many times I have even been able to ship the same day and most of the time get a scan.    I have never had a return or a negative feedback.   I have a 5.0 rating on my stars.

I decided yesterday to switch from 1 to 2 days handling time because my mom is not well and I might not be able to get to the P.O. the same day or even the following day but I intend to try my very best during these difficult times.

Will switching from 1-day handling to 2 days mean I will lose my TRS Plus badge and discount on my seller's Invoice?    I don't mind losing the discount on my Invoice but I like the TRS Plus badge on my listings.

Thanks.

Yes, any of your items with 2 days won't qualify for a discount. You will only lose your badge for individual items, yet you will remain a TRS in overall standing.

My father in law was a TRS for a couple years but only technically. They gave it to him yet he NEVER even once applied it to his listings. He told me he was always too busy and that he needed 2 day handling on all of his items.  Not sure if the fact that he remained a TRS so long was an oversight or a loophole on ebay's part. (or both)

I pray your mother  "gets well soon"

@magicjohnsonsvariety, After I listed something with the new 2-day handling time I saw on my All Selling page the message from eBay saying something about - "to qualify for TRS discount, upadate 3 listings".    I've decided to leave it at 2-day handling for now.

Thanks for the prayers for my mom.    Lung and breast cancer.  There's no getting well any time soon.

I read this in my email from eBay today, Saturday, after I received payment from my buyer:

"It’s time to pack up your item and ship it out. You selected 1 day(s) handling time, so make sure you send it by Sun, Mar 26, 2017"

Sunday????

Ahh, lucky you. It appears they've already decided you're going to be one of those "I ship EVERY day" GD sellers = )

One of my concerns is that with the GD sellers being able to indicate they ship Saturdays, eBay will now decide that ALL of us can/will and will start including Sat/Sun/Postal holidays in the shipping estimates. (Because we already know how accurately they do that now)

@ymeagainlord,  yes, apparently I was opted in but I changed it to 2-days.  What does GD stand for?   If I lose track of this thread and don't return to say it ... thanks in advance.

I agree - the e-Bay people making these decisions have never owned a business before - they just collect their pay check - they have no idea what they are doing and e-bay does not seem to care. It's all about how much e-bay can make off of us. Amazon can guarantee delivery because they have specific contracts with a number of carriers - E-bay does not - they are just relying on a 3rd party to make the deliveries on time - this more than often does not work...

As a small business, this new policy is hogwash. My listings show 1 day handling but I get my mail out within one day or LESS. Yes, some items go out SAME DAY despite my 1 day handling time, and YES I am opposed to this new feature.

Reason being, most of my items are usps first class and items arrive late ALL THE TIME. It's not feasible to switch to FedEx or ups because I would lose money on each product. Razor thin margins. I am hovering at 6-7% late shipments despite shipping faster or within my stated shipping time. I won't be able to offer this even if I shipped everything same day and promised within 1 day. Silly feature.

I do the 1 day handling time, but from reading eBay's guidelines, etc., it's actually bogus and depends entirely on our U.S. Postal Sytem.  I DO print shipping labels directly from eBay's shipping label service (always within the 24 hour / 1 day period - doesn't matter in the least, as it's not WHEN you package and print the shipping lable, or even when you turn it over to USPS).  HOWEVER, although I've been told that our postal carries are to scan every package upon pick-up, fact is they DO NOT scan each of them.  Ebay's policy, from what I've read, relies on the USPS scanning each package upon pick-up (or delievery to the post office).  This just doesnt happen - especially with regards to items shipped via media mail.  I've had dozens of media mail shipments, where the post office ONLY scans WHEN DELIVERED - nothing in between.  Ebay's 1-day handling based on the "scanning" of the "bar code" is NOT seller friendly and is unreasonable (eBay knows this and is just another way to stick it to us sellers).  Neither eBay nor Sellers have control over the United States Postal Service - they scan when they want and if they don't want, we're screwed.  I've had first class mail and priority mail packages NOT scanned until delivery.  Hope you folks understand what's really going on here.  Another very, very BAD eBay policy.

One thing I can always count on Ebay executives for....They are full of bad ideas.

They love to implement programs of dubious value which cost sellers time and money and cost them NOTHING.

If so called "guaranteed delivery" times were really important to Ebay buyers, then you would have seen Ebay sellers offering it on their own long ago.

Fact is, buyers can already see when an item is expected to be delivered.  If they buy, then that means they are satisfied with what they see.

This is just one more way for Ebay to **bleep** off and drive away sellers.

They just CAN'T seem to get it thru their heads that SELLERS are THEIR customers, not buyers.

SELLERS pay Ebay.

All of Ebay's efforts SHOULD be focused on SELLER retention and making things easier for the SELLER to run their business according to their own policies.

I've been selling on Ebay for over 18yrs now.

Its now so far from its original concept, that I don't know if it can ever go back.

Like many others I have branched out to sell on other venues that are more SELLER friendly and don't bury your search results if you don't subscribe to certain programs.

Ebay keeps having problems because they keep shooting themselves in the foot.

I'm still **bleep** about them eliminating Turbo Seller which I used to build my business and still used extensively right up until it was discontinued with NO replacement.

Ebay needs to start hiring more executives that have actually run Ebay businesses.

Selling on Ebay always has been "go with the flow" and It is what it is. As online selling becomes more popular, everyone is competing for a slice of the growing pie. Ebay lived so long on its own laurlels, it had to "reinvent"itself to compete. The big boy on the block is the River, and Ebay can no way shape or Form compete. So It is looking for global commerce. And unfortunatly that doesnt include small sellers like us
