Its important. Its bound to drag exposure for regular listings down even further. Now that the TRS discount is slashed in half, its not worth having 1 day handling for many sellers (like myself) anymore. Not everyones orders go in bubble wrappers and small boxs. Its just not worth it if your packing heavy or big, time consuming orders anymore. Dropping TRS and not opting into this new program thats horrible for average to medium sized sellers, will push listings further and further down the page for otherwise great sellers.
As the article im posting a link to at the bottom mentions, ebay does intend for us to pay for the shipping refund a buyer gets if their package is past the guaranteed date. Money will come from our pockets. So if your not big enough to absorb the losses, or sell items with many many multiples where its finacially worth it to do everything to stay on the top of the list. For the average seller of single item listings though, your getting the shaft.
Ebays new changes make it so you have to jump through hoops to get the TRS exposure (because the discount is almost useless now). Take 30 day returns and ship next day for peanuts, but if you dont, exposure goes down. Now with this and the new promoted listings, you will have to pay ebay way more in for the listing, AND have to refund shipping (or take it back if they want) if it doesnt make it in 3 days.
So, if we dont want to get buried by big business compitition, and continue to get the same exposure we get today, we would need to continue to jump through hoops for the now useless TRS Plus listing discounts, pay extra for promoted listings, and offer 3 day guaranteed delivery or the shippings free. Just to end up at the same exposure. As it sits now only bigger companies can afford to absorb all these expenses. Its just wrong.
Is this the new direction the new young CEO wants to go? Hes dong a major diservice to many of his best sellers. He seems to forget that unlike Amazon (Amazon Prime - which is what he is attempting to compete with), ebay doesnt have a warehouse full of employees to expidite shipping. Plus they dont own the merchandise, nor have 3rd party items in their possession. Its not their guarantee to make, and to then make US refund shipping if its a day past their made up date!? Ridiculous.
Am I alone on this one?
Under the new eBay program, if a product doesn't arrive in the guaranteed time, both eBay and the seller will chip in to refund shipping costs. If an item was shipped for free, eBay and the seller will provide an eBay coupon, expected to be $5, Lawton said. Two-thirds of the products on eBay include free shipping, according to the company.

I will be adding the following disclaimer to ALL my new listings, relists & sell-similars from this point going forward ...
"The United States Postal Service does NOT, and never has, Guaranteed Delivery times. Any estimates of delivery times you see are just that, ESTIMATES."

@vintagecraze50 wrote:It was my understanding on the initial thread that Ebay pays for the shipping if the postal service does not come through AS LONG as YOU the seller get the package to the post office within your stated handling time and get a scan. That is what is suppose to happen.
Considering that a 4 pound package, going cross-country, could cost a few dollars, I find it incredibly hard to imagine that ebay is going to cover the cost, be it cash or coupon, if it is late! Even if it is just a FC for $2.70 or so! (I don't think that even a 10% cut in TRS+ would cover it.)
OR
Perhaps there are not nearly as many folks buying from domestic sellers on ebay!
I wonder when the other shoe will drop?

Are buyers going to know that guaranteed delivery is an optional program?
Of course, we are not stupid. OMISSION is ebay's program to try to sell a new feature to its sellers, and leaving out the consequences for same. MAYBE they can snatch up some "newbies" who don't know any better. It makes me sad. Even worse would be when they auto enroll sellers into the program if they do not get enough volunteers.

@tamaralea wrote:@stonevintage I was under the impression that the stated handling time must be 0-1 day. This whole concept is for buyers who want things fast.
That was my understanding as well. It was mentioned multiple times that handling needed to be 0/1 day.
I also don't understand why they (eBay) keep harping on if we want more information or to be kept up to date why we need to sign up? So they will only be sharing further information on this program with those who sign up?
I'm sort of glad that I won't even be considering this program when I get back to listing again. There is no possible way I could meet 0/1 day handling.
Hmmm, that reminds me - I don't think they answered my question as to whether or not signing up for the info was going to be considered 'opting in'.
Oh well, I suppose we'll find out - eventually.

LOL....I think that might come under the YOU ASKED we delivered, program. Be careful what you ask for around here.....LOL>

I'm at a loss to understand why eBay doesn't understand that they're trying to compete against similar services which actually either charge the buyer (AMZ Prime) OR have a $ value criteria.that's the selling point............for the buyer there are NO costs...............
Let me build on that theme.
For the buyer there are NO costs
For eBay there are NO costs
Gee... wonder who that leaves paying the tab?

So much thinking. Your head must hurt by now.

Same here.
What I don't understand is that the suits want sellers to ship faster, however, by taking away my TRS, I will be shipping slower as I recently changed to 2-day handling.
I assume from what I read here that many others are doing the same.
This whole fiasco seems to have backfired on ebay.
I'm only 1/2 way through this thread with very little time left that I can spend reading here tonight but I would like to ask this, please.
I am a TRS Plus. I have had 1-day handling on all my listings and 99% of the time for the last few years have been able to ship the following day after payment has been received and many times I have even been able to ship the same day and most of the time get a scan. I have never had a return or a negative feedback. I have a 5.0 rating on my stars.
I decided yesterday to switch from 1 to 2 days handling time because my mom is not well and I might not be able to get to the P.O. the same day or even the following day but I intend to try my very best during these difficult times.
Will switching from 1-day handling to 2 days mean I will lose my TRS Plus badge and discount on my seller's Invoice? I don't mind losing the discount on my Invoice but I like the TRS Plus badge on my listings.
Thanks.

@newview, sounds good to me but remember, there are many buyers who don't read much past the first line or two in the description.
I read this in my email from eBay today, Saturday, after I received payment from my buyer:

LOL ymeagainlord!!!!! I never thought about that, but yes even those have no guarantee, right!!!
03-25-2017 05:53 PM
OK, I re-read the weekly chat (3/22) about the GD (Guaranteed Delivery) “scheme”
My take away thus far… there are 2 parts to this “scheme”
IF tracking AND acceptance scan is visible within 0/1 day EBAY refunds the buyer shipping $$ or issues a coupon IF the package is “late”
Sellers can pick and choose which of their listings will offer GD.
I checked my orders for the last 90 days… all 19 of them!!
All arrived in 2 or 3 days (PA to CA and states in between)
12 customers left feedback and only 3 mentioned shipping.
SO, if Mr. Buyer uses the GD filter looking for a widget (Aunt Matilda’s birthday in 3 days!) and sees my GD listing (higher in search?)
He buys I upload tracking and get it to the post office for acceptance scan all within 1 day.
If the package is late eBay is on the hook for a shipping refund under this GD “scheme” if the buyer requests the refund.
Note…my packages are all USPS Priority with tracking and the buyer pays for shipping. I am above standard eligible (not TRS) and would be tempted to give it a go for a few listings just to see what happens?!?

Good for you newview, I've done that too, and I think I wrote something like " I cannot personally guarantee your package will arrive by a certain date. This is only an estimate from ebay. If you have questions about shipping please ask before purchasing".

Yes, any of your items with 2 days won't qualify for a discount. You will only lose your badge for individual items, yet you will remain a TRS in overall standing.
My father in law was a TRS for a couple years but only technically. They gave it to him yet he NEVER even once applied it to his listings. He told me he was always too busy and that he needed 2 day handling on all of his items. Not sure if the fact that he remained a TRS so long was an oversight or a loophole on ebay's part. (or both)
I pray your mother "gets well soon"

Ahh, lucky you. It appears they've already decided you're going to be one of those "I ship EVERY day" GD sellers = )
One of my concerns is that with the GD sellers being able to indicate they ship Saturdays, eBay will now decide that ALL of us can/will and will start including Sat/Sun/Postal holidays in the shipping estimates. (Because we already know how accurately they do that now)
