Greetings All,
I sold a Local Pickup item June 27th, and have sent the buyer 2 emails regarding arranging pickup for the paid for item, one the day of sale another the next day. I have received no response from this buyer. The previous Local Pickups were no problem. In fact, one in particular had me holding the paid for item for one month until they finally were able to pick up, but each time I emailed regarding pickup they did respond back with an excuse why our tentative pickup arrangements never got solidified.
Although the buyer's phone number is listed, I am leery of going outside of ebay with this buyer because they've only got a rating of 7. Quite possibly so "new" they don't really grasp the fact Local Pickup means that and only that; no, the item's not going to be shipped if you never arrange pickup.
This item is a warm season item, its best time to get sold is summer. How long do I have to deal with this unresponsive buyer before this sale can be cancelled so the item can be relisted, and hopefully sell? And what reason to use for cancellation that's the best CYA for the seller in case this buyer decides to become un-incommunicado to complain about it?

You can use problem with buyers address.

This is nothing abnormal for this site:
Most (over 80%) of buyers
a.) think EVERYTHING sold on ebay is going to be 'shipped'
b.) don't know anything about 'looking' at their 'messages' to see a message
After 4 days, cancel for non payment and relist. Best to put 'LOCAL PICKUP ONLY' in the title.

According to the OP, the buyer has already paid for it.
@164nc : It's a paid sale, so just call the buyer at his contact number that you have for the sale (on the Order Details page), and work it out.

and when seller doesn't ship, there become a whole other problem (neg feedback; having to cancel etc etc)

Thanks to all for the help. Unless a response is forthcoming from this buyer, and likely it will not be, this sale is going to be cancelled tomorrow, 3 days from purchase. The buyer will of course be refunded. And they will also be blocked from buying again, so hopefully it will sell again to a buyer who can comprehend the terms in the listing and/or be more responsive to a seller's messages from whom they've just purchased.

Assuming that you would like to have the money more than the item that you sold, I would just phone him up at the number you have for him and just ask what the story is. Take action after that depending on what he tells you.

As stated I do not want to go outside of ebay communications with this buyer to initiate contact. I like initial contact through ebay because it's more impersonal for first impression on how a buyer operates. Would the buyer have responded back then sure we could use personal communication. But now, I'm done with this buyer and will cancel the sale.

I think 3 days is too quick...I'd go 5 days at least....but that's just me. Doesn't eBay give buyers at least 96 hours to pay for a won auction? I know the OP said the item was paid for, but people get busy, and stuff happens

Sold on Friday. Why do some think a person needs to respond over a weekend or in some sort of immediate way? Not everyone is attached to their phone. Wait a few days, try again. Wait a few more days than call them or text them. Patience.

You sold it on Friday and this is Monday. What reason do you plan to use for the cancellation?

This was a local pickup item. The seller has no plans to ship and has made that pretty clear.

Seems like the buyer has already paid acording to the OP, so maybe cancelling for nonpayment is not a good idea?

For local pick-ups, I always call right away. You are going to have to talk to them sooner or later.

Seems you've already made up your mind, but I don't see any mention of where the buyer lives. I know people can travel large distances to pick up something, but that might be a big clue as to whether it is likely or not. Are they located near you? I definitely give people more time to respond.
Also, if you relist I would make pick up more prominent by adding this information to the title & description.
