eBay is splitting up checkout order without asking

I tried to buy $650 worth of stuff today using the 15% off everything coupon. When I went to checkout, ebay only let me checkout for about $400 of the items to "make it easier for me" they said. I was not given any option or choice. Note that the 15% off coupon can only be used on one transaction, so by splitting my shopping cart into two large transactions I wasn't able to take advantage of the full discount. What is the point of advertising up $100 off when you go to checkout, ebay won't let you pay for ALL your items using the coupon?

Re: eBay is splitting up checkout order without asking

Are all the items eligible?

https://pages.ebay.com/promo/2018/0629/63432.html

*Eligible items exclude warranties and protection plans, as well as items from the Coins & Paper Money, Gift Cards & Coupons, and Real Estate categories.

Yes, all the items were eligible, almost entirely sporting goods items. Some nearly identical items were split away into a seperate order. No explanation given. They weren't in a foreign currency or anything that would require them to be checked out seperately.

Sellers can choose if they want their items to be paid for separately (done to avoid confusion between sellers and purchases).  So it’s possible that is why the order was split.

Re: eBay is splitting up checkout order without asking

This has happened to me several times, in all instances the sellers accepted Paypal. I figure if enough Ebayers resist and sellers lose business somehow they will fix it.

When I contacted the seller on one purchase, Ebay gave me this message in RED:

Thanks for your question. This seller accepts many forms of payment: credit, debit, and gift cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal and PayPal Credit. If you choose to pay with PayPal, you’ll continue to the PayPal site to select your payment method before returning to eBay to complete your transaction.

My note to the seller was:

What's going on with your orders?

I placed an order for four of your items along with other items in my cart,  and Ebay wants me to split orders, nope ain't gonna happen... no sale .

Whenever I get this message about splitting orders, I WILL NOT log into paypal TWICE. Maybe you don't realize what a PITA it is to "type" on mobile devices?

If a,seller accepts Google Pay and Apple Pay, it means that they are in Managed Payments.

Their Payment Processor is not PayPal .... they accept PayPal, but it goes through Managed Payments, not their own PayPal account.

When you have a mix of sellers (some PayPal, Some MP), the payments cannot be processed together because the Payment Processor is different. They go in different directions.

When you have a mix of sellers (some PayPal, Some MP), the payments absolutely can be processed together because "eBay Inc" will simply be another seller taking PayPal. Try it: Cart an item each from a PayPal seller and a PayMan seller, then pretend to checkout AND SELECT PAYPAL.

The reason @gnappi your order is split up is: Hi @Anonymous, orders are still being limited to 10 items at a time at Checkout, which denies a coupon discount, for example, from being applied to the random remainder of the more than 10 items. The workaround has been to Save For Later everything else to leave the 10 most expensive items/multiple-quantity items in the cart for the coupon discount.

Re: eBay is splitting up checkout order without asking

That should've read: "still being limited to 10 sellers at a time at Checkout"

"That should've read: "still being limited to 10 sellers at a time at Checkout""

Nope, I only had four sellers' items in my cart the last time this happened.

It depends on the luck of your straw: eBay runs different versions concurrently, so your experience at Checkout may differ from someone else, both at the same moment. One buyer might see:https://community.ebay.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/581567i03FF32C2AC367680

While another buyer will not know there was one seller in the cart that somehow in their life managed payments, until the buyer realizes they didn't pay the seller directly, but paid an "eBay Inc" relay, all during the same, single phase.

Hi @6zg3xb, when checking out for your items, there is a limit to the number of sellers that can be paid through one transaction (10). Additionally, when there is more than one currency involved, each currency will need to be paid individually; for example, if 3 sellers listed their items in Canadian dollars, while the other 7 are in United States Dollars, you would need to pay the three sellers in Canadian dollars separately from the 7 in United States dollars. Another example is if some sellers are in managed payments and some are not, those transactions would need to be settled separately.

Note: these stipulations apply when PayPal is involved in the transaction. Due to technical limitations, we are not able to combine various transactions when PayPal is used in the way that we may be able to do if checkout is completed with a credit card. If a buyer is running into a situation where checkout is being split, try selecting a credit card as a work around, as this will usually recombine all of the items into one transaction.

All of that being said, I do know that if you lost out on a discount due to your cart being split because some sellers were enrolled in managed payments, Customer Service can review the details to see if we are able to provide some form of compensation for the discount/promotion you lost out on. We can look into the details if you contact Customer Service and see what options are available.

Re: eBay is splitting up checkout order without asking

No problem, I bought what I needed from another seller. I wrote one seller that Ebay wanted to split transactions on and they were more than a bit surprised and had no idea Ebay was causing this to happen.

They wrote:

"Hello, Yikes! We don't put that restriction on there. "

Re: eBay is splitting up checkout order without asking

As stated by eBay, this is not anything eBay has control over. It's a PayPal limit when PayPal is the form of Payment. Paying with a credit card directly on eBay bypasses this process.

Well, then whoever the jokers are who control this split checkout should let shoppers know WHICH sellers are going to need twice the effort upfront before checkout so buyers can avoid them.

Now I simply save multiple sellers in my watch list and go to another seller that does not have this restriction imposed on them. Sellers lose, I do not.

To be clear, the issue is not related to the seller, it's related to the payment method the buyer is choosing. If the buyer wants to use PayPal to Pay, then the restriction will go into effect with certain sellers. If the buyer is not using PayPal and is paying with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Credit Card directly on eBay, then there will not be a split checkout. You as the buyer can control split checkout by selecting a non-PayPal payment method.

That being said, I understand if you want to use PayPal for your payment, so I completely understand your reasoning for not wanting to have to deal with this.
