I purchased a sterling necklace on April 23,
2021. After wearing it off and on for about 10 months, I realized it was sterling plated. I emailed the seller with a photo showing the plating was worn off in places, and got no response. I have now contacted Customer Service nine times, a supervisor told me that even though it was past 30 days, since the item is obviously counterfeit, that they would still file a complaint and take care of the situation. I have heard nothing! Each time I call they say they are filing a report, and emailing the supervisor. Still Nothing! Come on, Ebay, do the right thing! I have proven that the item is counterfeit, what else is there?!

I’m so sorry this happened. The metal was obviously misidentified … but that isn’t the same as being ‘counterfeit’, which has a specific meaning.
@blindkestrel_7 ^^^ This.
I'm with @house*of*paws... so sorry this happened to you. Geez... it even had you fooled for nearly a year. Hang in there...

@blindkestrel_7 wrote:It is the responsibility of the seller to sell legitimate, not counterfeit items, at all times. That is called integrity... fyi.
The Ebay supervisor said they would investigate due to fact it was misrepresented, even past the 30 days... so, I will take my chances with them, not you.
Thanks for the great wisdom you mustered, there, though
They just told you that to make you feel better and to get you off the phone.
Once the MBG expires, they won't do nothing.
There is a difference from counterfeit and cheap Chinese junk?

As a buyer and seller of silver items on ebay, I ALWAYS test items. You may want to learn how to do that as well. I say that because ebay is chalked full of overseas sellers (mostly from what I see China), that mark items and advertise them as ".925 Sterling Silver".... and they are PLATED. Sometimes.... in the small print... you might find that they try and surreptitiously disclose the plating and call it... "Silver filled", "Silver Over", etc.
Get yourself a Dremel, some felt buffing bullets, and buff every piece of jewelry you purchase as soon as you get it in, buff it in a non-conspicuous area and make sure there's no copper color underneath. Also, invest in some testing acid for silver, it's CHEAP.
Do your own homework, and you will be MUCH happier.

eBay should not have told you they would do anything about it. After that amount of time there really isn't a thing they can do. While the transaction would still show on your purchase history basically every thing else about it is inaccessible after that amount of time. The system doesn't have anything in place to refund after that long. The best they could do is issue a credit for a future purchase and there is no obligation for them to do this so them actually doing it would be highly unlikely.

The item was misrepresented, not counterfeit
If they had listed lets say a handbag as Louis Vuitton but it was a fake, that is counterfeit

Well thats good, I think Ebay is pretty good about courtesy refunds, if you badger them long enough.

well we sellers do have that cost to allow eBay to do courtesy refunds.
So glad you got your money back...
More fee increases coming up to cover such? Maybe.....

Just saying:
You have a good recorded with eBay or they would not have aided you in this.
They desire to keep you as a customer and have you using eBay.
If you read and understand the rules and regulations you were way out of time to do anything with this.
This cost is to eBay, and nothing done about your seller in any way.
Advice: Before you purchase any more jewelry on eBay is to first find a jeweler to take it to when you receive it.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I've received a courtesy refund, and was sure glad to get mine, too. Even though (as a seller) part of it was mine already...

"Bless all your lil hearts, for being so darn helpful. May you always receive the kindness you share."
Its difficult to be helpful with an item you've had and worn for over a year. I think most sellers figure these unwarranted courtesy refunds come out of their pockets with the fees they pay, I know I do.
