You people do realize that you're really cutting your options doing this and your stuff will sit out there for a long time while the item decreases in value.....
Amirite?

You people...

Would you be so kind as to pack and ship a 96" sofa for me?

@stewartit-sales Wrong ... right now I have some antique cast iron railroad signs ... some 30" x 20" and weighing in the area of 70 lbs ... first they would cost an arm and a leg and 3 other unnamed body parts to ship PLUS they would destroy the packaging in route AND they might crack making them worthless ... I also have a lighter weight one but its 48" x 48" ... errnt, way too big to ship economically.
Last year I sold an 85 lbs Antique Michigan Cash Register to a Buyer in (wait for it) Michigan!!! Local pick up, I held it for them from mid August to early October when they would be in the area ...
It has absolutely nothing to do with being lazy ... it has to do with common sense and what will and will not ship well or economically ...

I "cut my options" by shipping smaller and lighter things. Shipping rates continue to skyrocket. And for some items it not even possible, ergo:
Yeah they have to be picked up locally.

I believe that you may be confusing economic feasibility with laziness. Many sellers here are not set up to ship large items simply because the cost factor doesn't permit them to be competitive if they did so. In fact, I know of many local B&M stores that do not ship or offer delivery outside of a limited geographical area. For many eBay sellers to offer shipping for large items is merely not worth their time. So some of "us people" only offer Local Pickup Only for certain items.

No. You are not right - sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I have a 208 piece, service for 20 plus serving pieces of vintage, formal, fine dinnerware china for sale. Along with some fine lead-crystal goblets. Would you like to be responsible for it breaking in shipment? If so, please buy it from me and mail it where ever you want to....
And as for value - it INCREASES with age as it becomes antique the price goes up.

Do you realize that eBay is only ONE venue and a long dying venue at that. eBay hasn't been the 800 pound gorilla in the room for more than a decade. I moved most of my inventory into retail years ago. I make more money that way.
You really want to pay freight on a 8 foot long 19th Century one room school house / train depot sign? Sure, I got a good deal on it, just $9, at an auction as no one knew what it was, but I'd have to add at least $50 to the price for packaging. There is also the time waiting for the truck to pick it up, but fortunately I work from home otherwise there would be an additional charge for that. Instead I just placed it in antique consignment job for a 25% commission.
Perhaps get a job as a warehouse order packer, shipping clerk, order picker first in order to deliver an educated post rather than one based upon imagined knowledge.
Do you go into antique stores and wrongly tell them that they can get more for their items if they only list them on eBay? Of course the dozen or more of the same item already on eBay sort of prevent that whereas the shop only has one for immediate purchase at that location without any shipping charges?

Amirite? Non, Nein, Neit, Nej or just plain ole No
Large and/or heavy items may only be able to ship via motor freight carrier (over the road tractor trailer) - which may require a pallet & strapping to secure the load onto the pallet plus a fork lift and a loading ramp or dock to load it into a trailer. All this could possibly but not practically be done but no one wouldn't want to pay the total shipping charges including a drop off charge. A local buyer can simply, bring a pick up truck or if too big for a pick-up rent, borrow or bring their own trailer & just come & get it. I sold a fiberglass pick up truck camper shell that way didn't sell it thru eBay- the buyer came from 60+ miles away. Sold an out board motor to a guy from North Carolina he drove 4 hours to get it we are near Atlanta, GA. Both items sold within two weeks after listing & got my full asking price. Was asked for a discount but politely said "Non, Nein, Neit, Nej or just plain ole No"

Just curious: Is this your outlook because some seller stated they are not willing to pack and ship a grand piano to you?
