Buyer misuse of returns.

Seller send a message the Item doesn't fit or doesn't like, but on the return (to avoid shipping) he marks Reason: Doesn't match description or photos.  Has anyone else having this issue. I find it becoming more common. Seems they have found if they lie the can get a break shipping.  Is E bay doing anything about this.  I believe if ebay prosecuted a few buyer for fraud it might stop. Or do I need to file a complaint with the Post Office. (I only use USPS)

Re: Buyer misuse of returns.

This is on going with all sellers being FORCED to take back items from buyers who do not want to pay for return shipping. EBAY allows the buyer to lie. Ebay does NOT care they put it all on seller they want the money and you have not other choice but to do it if you want to sell and not have ding on you account . This all stinks and can be costly because you are not refunded all fees from Paypal. I have been I calls with Ebay 4 different time over same Fraud return and had (4) different customer service tell me each a very different thing but in the end NOBODY CARES

Re: Buyer misuse of returns.

I am a seller having several issues with buyers asking to return an item because they changed their mind, but when they return the item it is no longer new in appearance because they either shipped it without a shipping box or sent the same type of item back, but not the one that they received. I may no longer offer free returns to buyers, because I am losing too much money.

Re: Buyer misuse of returns.

If the buyer used eBay messaging to tell you it just didn't fit or they didn't like it, you can call eBay to appeal the return reason they use wrongfully (that is, if you have the time and will power).  It may work; it may not.

@chuckboyce

I have a buyer right now that won an auction and changed their mind.  This should be a simple unpaid item case.  However, the buyer does not want the unpaid strike on their account so they asked me to cancel the order and explained if I don't cancel the order they will pay, get the item and return it at my expense.  ebay does not care.

Re: Buyer misuse of returns.

So was a case opened by the buyer and did you respond within the case so everything was documented?

Personally, I don't accept returns. I can't afford it! I go way beyond in my description, measurements, and photos. If the buyer can prove I messed up in some way, I will work with them to resolve the issue. I also feel that if the potential buyer is not sure about buying an item, they can easily send questions.

I had person in late Fall buy a pair of sweatpants. All measurements provided. They turn around and did some double talk with the item is way too big, but I really like them. I denied the return. I later received notice that they filed a claim against their credit card company for an unauthorized charge. SAD! I was protected by the PayPal policy.

This sounds like a simple case of vindictiveness on your part instead of "just business". You haven't shipped, cancelling by 'buyers request' does not hurt your metrics, you get your FVF back immediately and you can relist immediately. Filing unpaid takes days before you get fees reversed and can relist. Waste of time and money, the #1 enemy of business.

Since the buyer is 'one of those', add to your bbl and move on.

Re: Buyer misuse of returns.

Do yourself a favor cancel the sale give there money back and block them from buying again. This is the only way you can win this situation.

Just business?  No it is the new ebay just business.

I miss the days not long ago when ebay was our selling partner and hoped to see us succeed instead of just make money from us.  The current tax scam by ebay that will end up costing the sellers lots of money months after the errors is just another example.    Another clear example if a buyer does not return an item within the 9 or 10 calendars days after a return label is provided and the return is close, when the buyer contacts ebay, ebay directs them to open a case with paypal.   Again ebay is actively teaching the buyers to break their own rules to take advantage of the sellers.   Yes just the cost of doing business on ebay however, in the end it just increase the cost to good buyers that we want to keep.  Winners are ebay and buyers who learn to break the rules and losers are the sellers that built ebay and all the employees of ebay over the years.

Re: Buyer misuse of returns.

If we take the buyer's word at face value, that means the item he received is not the item you mailed. So, villainous rapscallions must have swapped it in the mail. Hear me out.

Therefor, ask for the buyer to post a photo of the item so that you can take that evidence to his local police and to the post office inspector to start an investigation so that the heinous n'er-do-well that took the real item may be caught and prosecuted.

Sometimes this encourages the buyer to disappear and not ship anything.

However, if he plays along and actually posts a photo either he'll prove the item you mailed is exactly what he paid for and he's abusing the return system or he'll send you some kind of bogus photo and dig himself a hole by showing it is his intention to commit fraud.

At least see if you can make him waste his time if he's going to waste yours.
