WHAT LENGTH OF TIME DOES EBAY USE TO JUSTIFY THE CLOSING OF A THREAD?

Is it 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month 3 months? If an issue is pertinent to today's issues why close a thread?

When I search a subject on ebay's search nowhere does it say that we are not accepting any further comments.

Sometimes these actions look like the thought police do not like what is being said here or the tattletaler who do not like the issue complain to ebay.

TATTLETALE

Here is an example of the note on some threads.

Hello Everyone,

Due to the age of the thread, it has been closed to further replies.  Please feel free to start a new thread if you wish to continue to discuss this topic.

Thanks for understanding!

WHAT LENGTH OF TIME DOES EBAY USE TO JUSTIFY THE CLOSING OF A THREAD?

It seems to be, if the thread was started 18 months ago.

You do realize that reviving dead threads is considered poor etiquette just about everywhere in the wonderful world of internet message boards?

Just say no to thread necromancy!

In general, when the thread is no longer serving a useful purpose.  Some older threads can be successfully revived by the OP if there is a further update.

Bumping older threads to add a random comment serves no useful purpose.

Like bumping 20 threads about China.

Thanks for Being the first person to answer the question.

Are there any blues here to confirm.

The answer was posted in my first reply.  There is no set term.  Six months is a guideline, it is not fixed.

More than six months since the original post is more likely to get closed than newer threads unless the original poster has added something more recent or unless the thread is still considered relevant and useful.

The 6month thing came from Alan himself,  I can't find the specific thread but I found this one which refers to replies https://community.ebay.com/t5/Community-Platform-Feedback/Why-can-t-I-respond-to-all-the-posts-on-th... "we aim to archive threads that haven't been replied to in 6 months".

Hi @buyselljack2016,

We've just completed a bulk-archiving project, so all of our discussion boards should be pretty up to date now. The oldest content I can see on the boards is from May 2017. If there are any boards you think we might have missed - do let me know!

Thanks.

Alan - eBay Community Manager

Great to hear that it has been done.

No specific examples to report.  It is just that even in my limited time activly on the boards the "old threads" has been a recurring issue with the response that it is being worked on, or going to be worked on.

I know that within the last week I have seen some 1-2 + year old threads pop back up.

Slow folks like me don't always remember to look at the date of the first post.

I did not click on, and read all the links provided in one of the posts. Will this be a monthly?,  weekly?,  semi-annual?  type of  "bulk-archiving project", -----as in "recurring" maintenance?

Even from May 2017 sounds like it may not need reviving, but I do understand there needs to be a cut off.  Being there to read may be helpful, but piggybacking on something 3-4 months old looking for/expecting a response often results in an encore preformance of the information/solutions already provided.

We also just built a tool that enables us to bulk-archive ourselves. We'll set time aside every month or so to go through and archive boards again. Agree that even 6 months may be too long. Some communities archive threads after 3 months. We'll see how we get on and we can always adjust the way we do it!

Thanks.
