Status of Community platform issues

sheila@ebay
eBay Staff (Alumni)

Hi everyone,

First of all, I wanted to say thank you for your patience while we work on resolving platform issues. We’re currently collaborating with many internal folks as well as partnering with our Community provider to resolve these difficult issues.

Here are the list of issues on my radar:

  1. Post flooding error. I did change some settings and the post flooding should be better, but I know that this isn’t complete resolved ,and it still happens when text is copied and pasted in a post.
  2. Attaching images in private messaging needs improvement. Right now you can attach an image but it shows a broken image icon. Clicking that icon does nothing.
  3. The notification bell isn’t working as intended
  4. Reply count delay on member to member board. The number of replies displayed on the member to member support board isn’t displaying the correct number of replies. It appears there’s a noticeable delay for this number to update and accurately reflect the number of replies.
  5. Missing email notifications: Some members have reported not receiving email notifications that are in line with their profile preferences.
  6. Preview feature in private messaging is returning the error message, “This widget could not be displayed”
  7. Loading pages on community can take from 7 to 20 seconds to load
  8. The drag and drop feature at the bottom of a reply box will display the link to the file instead of showing the image. Brian just brought this to my attention and we’re going to turn this feature off for now, but we do have it in the queue to fix it.

I would love to have a perfectly working platform where community users never run into issues and have to come up with workarounds or try over and over to sign in. This isn’t an acceptable experience. These issues aren’t easy to resolve and are taking time to resolve, I promise I’m keeping an eye on all these issues and have been and will continue to push our partner to resolve these issues.

Going forward, I’ll start posting a status on these issues on a weekly basis. Even if I have nothing to report, I’ll let you know. If there are more issues that the Community members uncover, I’ll add them to my list.

Thank you for your patience.

Re: Status of Community platform issues

Think you should seek a new vendor. The platform is buggy, slow to load, only shows a few new posts at a time and generally seems dated. Maybe if you went out to bid on a new one current provider would up their game.

Some of these issues are only about 45 days or so from being an entire YEAR old.  I've never seen anything like it really.

Absolutely ludicrous that these issues have been allowed to continue for so long without any type of resolution or active visable progress. All I see is "Khoros cannot replicate/reproduce the issue", "Khoros is looking into it", "Khoros is gathering information", "Khoros is working on it", "Khoros has not been notified regarding the issue", etc. etc. etc. This is totally unacceptable. In any standard business, inactivity and lack of progress would be grounds for dismissal.

Just because Khoros cannot reproduce an issue/glitch does NOT mean it does not exist. Maybe Khoros is not capable of researching an issue properly.

Re: Status of Community platform issues

@lady_madonna

If my notes are correct.  It was a update to the community that Khoros did on May 28th last year that sent us down this very long path.

I've said what you've said or similar many times.  Some things have improved which is always a good thing, but many haven't as Sheila's long list represents.  And not everything on her list goes back to last spring but a lot of it does.

In a time where most of us are trying to deal with the frustrations of a world pandemic, the biggest change made to Ebay [MP] and the inadequate customer service help for MP members, just to name a few.  It gets to be a bit overwhelming at times as the threads clearly represent.  Sadly there just isn't anything us Mentors can do about it because we have made our view clear over the previous months.  But here we are, yet again.

And this kind of stuff makes it harder to accept when they make cosmetic changes like they did in the Private Mail system.  Why the labor that went into that couldn't have been used to track down some of the REAL issues in the community is hard to wrap our heads around.  So that is why there has been so much push back on that.

But here we are, STILL.

Similar mindset, in that these frustrations can be so overwhelming to us. Personally, it has taken me to the brink. 😩

Re: Status of Community platform issues

sheila@ebay ,

I've been away for a while so maybe things have changed.

I'm seeing lots of glitches.

1. Members from the UK and other sites are being redirected to the eBay US site.

This has been an ongoing glitch for a long time. Yesterday and this morning I saw one post after another complaining about this. Several members said that clearing browser history and deleting cookies does not help resolve this.

Note to add: A workaround to this has been posted by another Mentor however it's still very frustrating to members who are experiencing this. As I recall, we had this same glitch going on before I left😒

2. I can't copy and paste using the "Comment" box.

Yes, I know I can edit the comment, but that is time-consuming.

3. My posts don't show up immediately.

4. The notification bell requires me to hoover over the bell and then click "View all". I think the notification bell was fine the way it was.

5. The PM format is just a complete mess.

Re: Status of Community platform issues

sheila@ebay ,

I've noticed another glitch since my last post to you.

Now, when I answer a question I get a notification saying the OP has replied. It is the same original question. There is no new reply from the OP. This is really time-consuming and inconvenient.

Honestly, some of these glitches were happening last year! Will there ever be a time where they are actually fixed?

IDK how widespread this is, but I keep getting this error message all day today.  Oddly enough if I click on the PM icon and then back to the bell it snaps in place.

sheila@ebay ,

And another glitch that started yesterday.

When an OP responds on their thread I'm getting 2 or 3 emails for the same response.

@sunnysouth1

You are actually getting emails when a thread updates????  Dang for many of us those stopped almost a year ago and we have to use the Bell which is horribly inconsistent and often misses stuff.

@mam98031 ,

Yes, I'm getting email notifications when a thread updates.

I'm also getting email notifications of the OP's original post.

Here is one thread where I responded and a few seconds later I got an email showing the OP's original post.

The bell notifications are just a hot mess.

I'm jealous.  I absolutely HATE the bell and it has caused me to miss important posts and/or questions being asked of me.
