No link to the posting Guidelines for The Community

I was on a thread today and the OP was advised to read the Posting Guidelines for The Community ... I checked and the link that used to be in the upper right hand corner of the page is no longer there.

Would it be possible to have that added back in to ALL the pages on The Community?

@mr_lincoln the posting guidelines are on the home page of the Community, under a section called 'Getting Started', in the right hand rail.

Thanks for the feedback on posting the guidelines on every page. I'll certainly consider it.

just for information..........I had a tough time finding them(and have been on the boards a number of yrs)......consider a new poster who knows nothing about what's under those tabs at the top of the page.........if we are to hold new posters responsible for knowing the rules........that should be one of the first things they see........my opinion, of course.

I see @dhbookds already posted a thread about this on this board earlier today:

sheila@ebay   Thank you for that ... that's too buried for those of us who have been here a long time and need to send new members there who obviously have not read them or did not bother to read them.

@dhbookds   Or an experienced Poster needing or wanting to direct another member, probably new, to them ... which I have done on more than one occasion.  I did it again today only to double check and see they were not where they are easily visible in the upper right hand corner of any Community page.  They are too buried where they are now and I have said as much ...

New users typically land on the home page, which is probably why that's where the information lives. I wouldn't use the word "buried"- and that's also where other quick links reside like the FB and YouTube pages, links to eBay security and getting started pages, etc.

Having said that, I do see the value in having the rules link on other pages. Adding the link to the 'about this board' section on the right side of the page might be preferable to adding the link back to the top. I can't speak for others- but if eBay has to spend $$ customizing the page to add the link to the top- I'd rather see them spend that $$ on adding the eBay designation to threads where eBay employees have posted. Use the existing features to add the guidelines link on other forum pages.

@coffeebean832   The phrase "Rules of engagement" seems inappropriate opposed to Guidelines for posting ... plus members make not "get that".

@coffeebean832

Certainly, I agree with you, on a selfish level, if money is a consideration.  One of the blues stated that some of the things we took "for granted" before the initial change was that Alan paid outside people for some of the "enhancements" we enjoyed.....but that those things "didn't" work when the new, strip down boards strictly from Khoros came.  With even more "great things to come", one presumes money is being spent on the new stuff rather than bringing the new "old" stuff up to the previous level.

It's just kind of strange to me, when every chat board I've seen plasters Use Rules up front on every page, it was apparently deemed unnecessary here.

@dhbookds, @coffeebean832  eBay is over 20 BILLION annually, they are either cheap or completely stupid when it comes to programming, otherwise we wouldn't have half the conversations that we see here on The Community.   If they would poll Sellers before they make changes they would deliver a more complete solution or page layout, etc on the first try.

Oh sure, I've seen those older "you asked and we delivered" type posts about new stuff but THEY NEVER ASKED ME before they changed anything.  So in my mind, if they did not ask me they didn't ask anyone, they just did it ... did they ask you two about any changes?

No, no one asked me.........but I do remember when, I think, Jeff redid everything......there was a small number of board people who tested/approved the "new" board.  When it went live, there were screams about something, can't remember what......and one of the testers apologized that they hadn't realized...etc.  As I recall, whatever the problem was, it was soon fixed. So there will probably always be problems with changes.

That said.....I've always wondered why ebay doesn't "build on the good" as opposed to completely redoing it all.....  I won't reiterate all the problems with the new board.  Heaven only knows how much time/expense they gone thru to try to bring it up to the functionality of the old board.  It happened also when Alan redid it, tho to less uproar, I think, plus he was very open to working with posters suggestions/upgrades......some of which, apparently, got done because he went out and found/paid for them.

@dhbookds   Yes, I recall some of those roll outs you mentioned.  I guess I am getting a sense that fewer people are posting since the most recent changes (to not only The community but to eBay itself).  I think the whole concept of a small Community today is different from those members who were here 15 or so years ago.
