How many Posting IDs are you allowed to have on The Community?

I'm curious if there is a limit to the number of Posting IDs one can have here on The Community?

I've been meaning to ask about why they are now called the 'blues', and didn't they used to be 'pinks'?

Thanks for answering 1/2 my unasked question 🙂

They have a blue banner around them now. The old post used to be highlighted in pink. If I’m remembering correctly.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

Anyone know?

Saw that after the change.  Has been a few months. One seller that I sometimes look at has had 7-8 ID changes. A few months back all the ID's could be seen.

the only reason i can think for ebay to hide this info now is to promote and allow such actions as abuse.  can you think of any others?

I can't Smiley Indifferent

This is true.

To my knowledge, eBay did NOT check macID's. (At least as of 2017, as mentioned, this may have changed). They mainly did IP matching for this.

as far as i know, ebay still does not use mac id nrs.  yet that is the simplest way to track users, systems and abusers.  ip nrs are easily changed and manipulated and ALL good coders know this.  but none of the ipn schemes hide or can change mac id numbers.  the only reason i can think that ebay does not use the mac ids is to promote and perpetuate the abuse as they want every penny they can get.  i wish i was wrong, but ebays own track record supports this belief.

MAC addresses are easily spoofed also. Mine is in my router running DDWRT firmware.

I only use one ID on the boards, because when I say something I want everyone to know it was me who said it, I won't hide behind another name..

Me too, when I first started to post it was with my Selling ID so I just stuck with that ...

I didn't know that.

Ebay could easily track most sales once all buyers are on Ayden. I don't know how tricky guest purchases are going to be under that system, however the financial information given to ebay should be enough to track most buyers. I assume that ebay will be tracking abusive buyers through their financial information which should in theory make it easier.

I thought I read where buyers can be blocked on one account and open another and make a purchase from you.  So why hide when ebay apparently sanctions this?

Hm... good question. I see 15 replies here. And as far as I know, all these responses could be from the OP's 15 other posting ID's haha.

I have a follow up question though. If you have multiple posting ID's and one of them get suspended for say 30 days in this board... are you also suspended on your other ID's?

Yes, even if you forget you were suspended on one and post with another.

Apparently it's considered one of the more egregious violations you can commit.

Reality is the leading cause of stress.

From what I can see, only the first ID gets the stars. So if there are more than two IDs in the history, you can see all but the first one.

Interestingly, the ID with the stars has the same number of characters, and the first and last letter stay the same. So it's not like when eBay does a masked ID.

That * symbol must be tricky on government forms and applications and stuff.

j/k

Though actually you might remember someone on the FB board getting all hot and bothered when someone said she was crazy, and actually arguing (because she was, indeed, cuckoo) that being called crazy was cause for litigation in that it could affect her prospects in her current job hunt.   The person who called her crazy (not me) answered  (names are changed to protect the guilty so let's say her eBay ID was doggie*dawg) asked her if she completed her job applications as follows:

Last name:   DAWG

First name:  DOGGIE

@fern*wood  clarified and it was funny Smiley Happy

Not sure about the uppercase letters, as there is a member ID that was created as Greg5000 and is still in the system.  I'm only seeing ID's with lowercase when they display on listings.

This is what eBay says regarding setting up an ID (which shows uppercase letters in their example):

Username policy overview

Your username is the unique name that you use to identify yourself on eBay, like SuperSeller or Nothing_but_Posters.

I know this has already been responded to, and it was determined that eBay only displays lower case letters, but I thought that this was a good screenshot to demonstrate it. I put a capital G in the URL, but eBay reads it as the same user name as with a lower case g. So, eBay doesn't distinguish between upper and lower case letters.image.png

The eBay user name policy is confusing, and I think that the use of capital letters in the example is a mistake. However, in the list of what you can use in your user name, it only shows the lower case letters.
