I had a buyer that wanted a refund at my expense for their screw up and not doing due diligence. when the buyer first contacted me, she claimed i miscatagorized the item. It was correct in the listing. Because I would not pay for the return, she threatened to contact ebay and leave negative feedback. when she did contact ebay she changed her allegation saying the listing was vague. I disputed this, laid out the facts to ebay, but said no to paying for the return. I HAVE A NO RETURN POLICY . This was on wednesday and I have not heard a word from ebay. I dont have these issues, so I am wondering how long this process takes.
It keeps saying I need to take action by monday and basicly I have to refund the money which ebay has frozen. Is there any guidance for this situation. I cant find a way to contact ebay for a status of their investigation into this false claim and dispute.

Did she open an actual case? If she did,and you didnt respond to it, Ebay will refund her, let her keep the item, and you will get a defect.

Just take the return and move on.

Without you giving us a link to the listing and explaining exactly what her complaint was, we have no way to evaluate whether your listing was an adequate representation or not.
That aside ...
If a buyer files a "Not as described" dispute and you refuse it, eBay will generally rule in the buyer's favor. If that happens, you will be forced to refund in full and you will not get the item back.

Your no return policy does not mean anything. All the buyer has to do is say the item is not as described and you WILL refund, not get your item back and get a defect on your account. Just tell her return for refund through the case and wait for it to arrive in the mail. Fighting this will just make you frustrated as you WILL NOT win.

My advice is to work with the buyer. Agree to the refund upon receiving the item back and then move on. Sell the item to someone else.

"No Returns" does NOT mean 'No Refunds'.
Ebay has a Buyer 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.
No Returns just means you do NOT want the item back, should the buyer utilize the 30 Day MBG
No Returns allows you to 'deny' a return for a 'remorse' reason.
All other reasons, it is Forced on you to either PAY the return Shipping back to you, then you refund upon receipt or, just refund letting buyer keep because you don't want to pay return shipping.
This is how it has worked here for 10+ years.

As everyone has already said, accept the return. You will not win this. You will lose the item, your money, get a defect and a negative.

I did offer to refund in full upon the return of the item undamaged. but she pays return shipping. and there is the feedback threat issue also

If the buyer filed an INAD, the next thing you'll hear from Ebay is they refunded the buyer from your account and let them keep the item.

Accept the return and provide a shipping label, if you want something returned before refunding.

the problem is she screwed up. all of her communication proves that and she is using feedback threatening to get her way. I offered her a solution, but she didnt like it. I make my listing very clear and concise with supporting photos it was on her

as has been posted............. you have to follow eBay policies
even if the buyer is lying when they claim not as described the seller pays return shipping
your solution of buyer pay for return does not meet eBay policy
it is something that you could "appeal" after return and full refund, but may not make a difference

The buyer claims miscategorized, but yet they found it, read the listing (I assume), did not ask any questions would be my guess, and now this. They found the item using their key search words and made the purchase.
Just blows my mind what people will try to in order to get a freebie!
Sounds like the buyer opened a case. Fight it. Take everything you have in the communication thread between you two and respond to the case.
If you don't respond, you lose. At least put up a little fight. Don't just give in.
