I constantly get customers wanting me to send them an updated invoice from what is in their cart. I can't see what is in their cart! and (the customer) can't find "request an invoice" because it is sooo hard to find most often. I give them 3 suggestions (request an invoice, buy don't pay and wait for an invoice or buy and pay and I refund the excess shipping when I ship).. I lose a lot of business because of this. ny suggestions. I can't offer free shipping as I would lose more than I paid for my items. Thanks

I just don't see why it's "so hard to find".......agree it could be overlooked, but should be fairly easy to tell them where it is........ I'm using firefox, do other browsers show it differently?

This has been a problem since ebay removed the "commit to buy and continue shopping with this seller" feature. In most instances that is no longer an option, and now eBay just sends a buyer direct to check out to pay. This was an "enhancement" a while back that ebay made to supposedly cut down on non-paying bidders.
Unless there is a "commit to buy" feature for items that do not have published Immediate Payment Required, putting them in the cart is useless. There will be no "request total", and sellers cannot see what is in the cart to help their customers that want to purchase more than one item combine for one shipping price. A buyer is directed to pay for each item separately for each fixed price listing.
Sellers were told to set up "shipping terms" or such profiles, but that is only useful if you sell like items of the same size and weight. Sellers of ecclectic items of different sizes and weights will not benefit by allowing eBay to "figure it out".
If you win ten listings in auction format the result is the same. However, if you wait to pay, the seller can send you a combined invoice for these.
Ebay staff members repeatedly say the cart is fine and working as intended. I suppose their "intention" is to collect the extra fees on the excess postage paid.

I send buyers a screenshot of where the button is located in the cart.
If the button is grayed out then I will, depending on the buyer, refund shipping after the fact, create a custom listing, or use the private offer feature.

Don't forget this will disappear if/when they run a sale.
If this store runs a sale or someone adds 1 item that has shipping & 1 item with free shipping then the sale or free shipping in ebays eyes is already a discount & the request total will be grayed out.
If 1 item is IPR and 1 is not the request total will be grayed out.
I have found nothing is so cut & dry with ebay anymore.
This could be 1 reason the OP's buyers have issues.

Thaks I will try that, but the button is usually not there - Thanks Chris
I haven't looked at checkout on mobile lately so I can't remember if it has the same feature. You should look into that so you know how to answer questions for mobile users.

Dear All! I have used this button for years. It was not available in the app, but when i was ready to purchase I would open the classic site in Safari and it was there. The problem is that I have not seen the button for many months now, it’s no longer there. In the past in some cases it was greyed out (when eBay would not allow you to use it for reasons listed by others), but at least it was still showing. For the last few months the button is no longer there!!! Does anyone have a solution?

what about customer who wants to pick out 30-50 things...create special listing for them. WHY when they could simply just fix it

im sure PC or Mac VERSUS tablet phone app (its mainly difference between classic website ebay and ebay phone app----- phone and app are the main issue with this problem works just fine as longs as its nto violating any of ebay rules like its ending in a few mins or it has free shipping...then its correct for not showing it....but when all items are days away from ending and they are fixed items and have shipping tied to each item ...there shouldnt be a problem

thats cause you are using a pc / mac its desktop computer and you are using ebay.com website not a phone app
