Hello, Are any of your GTC products selling? Are you getting any bids on your auctions?

Good luck to ALL the small sellers out there!

Hummm I just checked and NONE of your auctions currently have any bids on them perhaps you are like a lot of other folks and have more than one seller ID.
Good luck to ALL the small sellers out there!

True on more then one Selling ID but the %s I am listing for this GTC thread from my posting ID.  For the most part I run Auctions to end on Weekends, so typically I don't see many bids until later in the week and per the original post April 62% of sold items were Auctions ...

And btw ...  as of this writing you missed one Auction listing that has a bid ... perhaps you can recheck on your 2nd cup of coffee LOL!

I have a relative that manages a physical consignment store...business is BOOMING!

Long story short, a tremendous amount of stuff that years back would have went on ebay is now going to consignment and the buyers are following.

From a sellers perspective:

No shipping, paypal/ebay costs.

No returns or losses to scammers.

You put it all in a bin, hand it to them, and they sell it.

From a buyers perspective:

You see it, you touch it, you try it, you buy it on the spot...

I'm not talking coffee cups and DVD's...I'm talking expensive/nice stuff. I suspect the junk that is rejected for consignment ends up being dumped on ebay...

Excellent points all around ... today's home based resale entrepreneur needs numerous venues to sell  AT, ON or IN ... if the eggs are all in one basket eventually some will spoil, a plow with one blade takes a long time to till the field, planting flower bulbs upside down and they don't grow as well, should I go on? NO!

Another good avenue to move items is local box lot auctions whereby excess items from profitable lots get recycled that way.

Our area has tons of consignment stores, thrift shops, auction houses, etc.  Other parts of the country have very, very few of these so in basic terms the online sales venues allow those people to shop in the same places we do.  We've had more then one Buyer from the Left Coast say that all the good stuff is out east ... the cities on the eastern seaboard are at or almost 300 years old ...

In addition to consignment shops, I'm seeing "Craft Malls" gaining steam; I think they're aiming at a piece of the Etsy market.

One that I know of charges $200 month to rent a 6'x10' space plus 10% of gross sales; there are no spaces available...I shop there because it is not full of Chinese garbage and you can find some real quality work in the items.

The right items in the right place at the right price will work well.  There's one local consignment shop that baffles me ... they have a ton of consignment booths but some of the stuff sits for a very very long time and the prices are outrageous.

That's the plan ... I am sure a lot of Sellers are doing similar things ... here, Weekends are the busy time, we're entering the 2nd one in May so it will be interesting to see where we are Sunday evening ...

And if it's not in your local area, you miss out.

Reality is the leading cause of stress.

Update: Week 2 in May

Heading into the weekend I started my quarterly Promoted Listing Campaign.  1 Item sold over the weekend from that.  The weekend itself was the lowest sales weekend in a few years, must have been "my turn in the barrel".  Current monthly break down of Auction - GTC = 75% Auction & 25% GTC but there are 2 weekends left so those numbers will probably change.

May is one of the slower months here and it will be nip and tuck to hit or exceed last year's numbers BUT, "Hope springs eternal!"

With 2 months basically in the books its time for an update:

1st Quarter 2019 PRE-GTC Mandate yielded 54% Auction sales and 46% Fixed Price sales

With May coming to a close 2nd quarter is running about 62% Auction sales and 38% GTC sales.  The latter was boosted by the Quarterly Promoted Listing Campaign (which I do as often as once a quarter) ... this has thus far accounted for 51% of the 2nd quarter GTC sales so without that PL Campaign the Auction - GTC split could be worse, meaning GTC sales could be lower then the current 38%

A 2nd account was just downsized from the Basic Store level to the entry Store level (100 pre-paid listings).  That store had worse numbers since the GTC mandate went in to effect and has shown no sign of recovery, currently sales are down by 60% ... I wonder if anyone at Home Office is noticing this type of trend among Sellers who are slowly siphoning off items and downsizing?
