First want to appologize for my/our rant yesterday. 😚
My wife and I just want to sell on ebay as just a hobby,
We both work full time with other incomes.
Our experience here has been kind of frightening.
There are some very angry and hostile buyers and sellers here.
Only been here a short while but it's actually shocking.
From threatening and hostile messages to giving negative feedback...
For nothing more than a few bucks. Just ask for your money back. No Problem!
In short of 3 years here, my wife have considered ebay is a hostile work environment,
That's what we have experienced, sad but true.
No need to reply.😑
Have a Great Weekend!
It's summer!
Peolpe are not freezing in New York. It's Summer.
Have a great weekend!

I find people who look to pay el-cheapo for stuff are the worse customers. highest complainers.

@gurlcat wrote:The OP and wife must have extremely good luck with their regular work history if eBay seems hostile by comparison. When I think back on all the jobs I've worked at, not a single one of them didn't have at least one boss, coworker or customer who made me more upset than even the worst eBay buyer I've ever had. And as a teacher ..... well let's see, there was the 6' tall boy who shoved me and told me he was going to stab me in the heart and watch me bleed out, did this in front of the whole class, and basically faced zero consequences for it.
The last place I worked, it wasn't nothing to get hit and beat up.
I worked with criminals with supposedly mental problems and they could hit you or put you in the hospital and there was nothing we could do because they were mental patients.
Most were there because they didn't want to be in jail and their lawyers told them to play crazy for a couple months and they would let them go.
A couple months later when they found out their lawyers lied, we had to deal with them.
Worked as a mental health counselor for 20 years. Many different settings. One setting working with angry young boys and yep, that was the most incredibly dangerous jobs when they got upset they would throw chairs at each other and me. This is a CUPCAKE compared to that.
The ones I worked with were ones waiting to go through the court system and it was our job to get the ready for court.
When they found out they could be there for 2 years and not the couple months their lawyers told them, their attitude changed quick.
We had to deal with them while their lawyers collected their checks from the state.

Man, is that true.
People come on here with this "People today have no courtesy, nobody is nice anymore blah blah blah..." - I wonder what sheltered life they've had. Public-facing jobs have never been easy.

Also people have always complained about people "today." 🤣 If civility really declined as much as people thought they observed at the time, we should be living like Mad Max at this point.

Though TBH, for some people that would suit just fine. 😖

His wife is learning. She can handle it, I'm pretty sure.

True. Just imagine if you had invested tens of thousands of dollars into digging an underground bunker and filled it with freeze dried food and firearms, then had to just watch year after year go by with no "opportunity" to utilize it and feel proud of yourself. Or even just firearms.

That's actually a really good point! I personally have found that the higher the item cost, the more civil the buyers. I'm sure that's b/c I have a good demographic to begin with, but I was warned early on that "bottom-feeders" are attracted to the cheap items. Most sellers I know have a low limit of what they're willing to list at.

"hostile work environment"...not eBay...but at my job selling wine in retail in a store...you have no idea what an hostile work environment is...you need to interact with people in person for that...not an email.
And a few of my returns from the past on eBay...years ago were pretty awful and lessons learned...

Good to hear.

Yes, that seems to be the pattern.

The longer you do this, the more you learn and go with the flow. We are very thankful for the great buyers, kind buyers, etc. Every once in awhile you get one that makes you scratch your head. You learn with every one. Hang in there and enjoy the ride of resale. I hope your month gets better.

One thing I tell people starting out is that ebay is like a Wal-Mart at 3 AM every minute of every day.
Any dingbat with a phone or computer can use ebay...even if they really shouldn't be.
You have to understand that you are 100% going to get squirrels no matter what you do, you simply cannot hide from them forever.
Know the rules, follow them and you can usually mitigate most of the damage a half-wit can perpetrate on you.
If you get a wild one and a negative is coming? Earn it, you'll feel so much better.

Except Walmart is no longer open 24 hours. I miss it sooo bad! -I may not be one of the 3 AM people, but midnight, 1 AM, yeah sometimes !

Watch eBay roll out the BBE policies that are given to non US customers to the US after they feel it's been 'successful' in improving buyer experience.
What does "BBE" stand for and what are the policies you're referring to?
