Scam

Hi, I had posted up two reborn dolls for sale, for $200 each and there was a gentlemen who was supposed to purchase them & was going to send me $500 extra to purchase a $400 eBay gift card to send along with the dolls and another $100 for shipping. I spoke with him and eBay as well, and was told that he had $1400 taken from his account, so eBay needed me to purchase $800 on eBay gift cards to replace the money that came out of his account, I did so & then proceeded to tell me that I needed to purchase a $500 visa gift card in order to get the money, I was scammed, the gift cards were used & I did not receive any money or anything & I would like to know how to go about this.

Re: Scam

Hi everyone,

If you believe that you or someone you know was scammed into buying eBay Gift Cards, visit our gift card page to contact customer service and find additional information related to gift card scams.

Thank you.

Unfortunately yes. It is one of the many common scams people keep falling for.

Re: Scam

Unfortunately, you were NOT dealing with eBay.  You were dealing with a con artist who produced faked messages that looked like they were from eBay, or phone calls that seemed to be from eBay.  You were never in contact with eBay.  eBay does not work the way you described.

Your money is lost.  There is no way to get it back.

This is an old  scam and you targeted because you're a new seller and the fraudster figured that, sadly, like many new sellers, you had not thoroughly studied how eBay works before listing items for sale.   I am sorry.

Re: Scam

File a complaint with your police department and the one in the buyer's town, then file one with the USPS Postal Inspectors for fraud by mail, then file one with IC3.  Chances are high that you won't see your money again, but you never know and it could help someone else on down the road.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

Respect, like money, is only of 'worth' when it is earned - with all due respect, it can not be ordained, legislated or coerced. Anonymous

Re: Scam

So did you list these under a different account? on Ebay?  I see no completed listings on your account?

Re: Scam

A buyer can't send you extra money. They can only pay for an item they win. Asking to include a gift card is a scam. There's no refunds on gift cards. If you purchased a gift card and revealed the code in an email or by phone to someone the money is gone.

Sorry that happened, but you were not talking to Ebay.

If it was Ebay you were talking to, they would have told you it was an old scam.

It won't get your money back, but you can file a police report.

Have a great day.
