Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

Just wondering if it is just me, or if other long-time sellers have noticed a complete drop through the floor of sales that started in the beginning of this month?

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

You're not alone, my sales died after January the first as well, and been dead ever since. I sold one game in the last 3 days, and have over $2,800 of games listed for sale right now. There's like 60 people watching over 45 items I have for sale right now, and nothing is selling.

But give it time, people will soon start getting their tax refund checks. A lot of us are broke until we receive them. I know I am.

Not to mention wages are going way up right now for low wage workers. Minimum wage here in MO where I live is going up every year until 2023 when it will hit $12 an hour. Higher wages mean more buying power for consumers, a good thing.

A lot of companies, and law makers it seems, are now giving into demands for fairer pay for workers. It will hopefully pay off and boost our economy.

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

Oh, wow, 4 more years to get to a measly $12/hour?  (Admittedly, more than I make here but the IRS says my labor is free...but I digress).

Seriously, $12/hour is $24,960/year.  I don't know how many wild and crazy shopping sprees someone will go on with that amount of income.

Anyway, my sales have been okay, with some sold-immediately-upon-listing, and at nice prices.

I've scaled way back so I can't compare year to year sales.  I've also wandered in and out of different categories in the last few years so that's another reason why I can't come up with any viable statistics about sales numbers.

If I list something good and in an uncrowded category and considering my feedback looks great and my descriptions read like I halfassed know what I'm doing, then my widgets sell.  I don't over or under price; I usually stay mid-range.

I listed a sweater for well over $700 a few weeks ago.  I checked around and maybe it will sell faster on other sites but when I considered the fees, I decided to try here first.   Can't hurt.  In another few weeks it will spread its wings.

I'm sure the cost of living is cheaper in the $12 an hour places.  I sold something to a buyer in California that lives in a $2million house, I looked up their address.  That house looks about like a $100,000ish house around here.  Crazy to have to shuffle larger sums of money around in some places.

Probably showing my age again but if folks are broke then get 'paid'  seems the last thing they need is another video game.    When Govt furloughed workers last month I was a bit shocked that folks could not buy food a few days later.

My late momma taught me that you give by not taking and you make money by not spending.   I know that is a reverse way of thinking on a selling site.

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

our sales are off too

ebay must have made more secret changes to their search engine

weird thing my business account that has 2600+ items listed is getting less sales than my personal account with 12 listings..

ebay has done something.. probably going to go out of business soon sucks because i just purchased a warehouse and have 4 employees who i will need to let go

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

I agree, $12 an hour isn't much really. I averaged about $18 an hour at my last job working as a waiter, and as much as $30 an hour on the weekends, yet I barely cut the bills with that. But I quit back in December because I couldn't handle the stress of waiting on 50 people at a time, not to mention being screamed at by angry co-workers who have nothing but hatred for humanity.

I have to make ebay work somehow. Even if I made only $12 an hour here, that would be far greater than most of the jobs where I live. Most jobs here pay only minimum wage, which was $7.85 an hour until recently. This is why I had such angry co-workers, they earned minimum wage, no raises, and my wage alone not including tips was greater than theirs.

This is why lawmakers are forcing employers to pay more, because of **bleep** like this. No one is going to survive on $7.85 an hour.

One good thing happened when I left that job though, I had several thousand dollars in the bank to fall back on. It recently ran out and Im stuck waiting for my tax refund check, or stuff to sell. I admit, I wasn't the best at managing my money and I probably shouldn't be broke right now, but no ones perfect.

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

sale are same here, down to nothing for about a month...well I sold item today - wow - 1 whole item, but from what I heard they have been down for most all sellers and according to my seller hub overview graph the entire market is down and my few sales I had this month is at 100% about the market... somehow I doubt that is correct but whatever.

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

My sales dropped a lot in August with the update but since January 1st it has been horrible. My impressions are down 100% its crazy. I think ebay is trying to cut out people who sale mostly used items and boosting sellers who sale new items.. If you do a search as a buyer all brand new items with professional pictures show up. I believe they are moving towards becoming Amazon..Just my opinion.

I am a longtime (1998) seller with rarely more than 30 items listed and I had a very nice January.  BUT folks need to remember that ebay is all about WHAT you are selling.  If you go into the grocery store knowing the item you want/need is in the far back corner on the bottom shelf you pass right by all the impulse or deeply discounted items to get back to the ones you want.   Same things applies here.

I think online sales will diminish across the board as gadgets are hacked and folks come full circle back to touching feeling and buying in person.

That's like saying car window crank handle is coming back because people like the feeling.

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

I don't know what is going on either. My sales for the last 7 days are $36.80 and for the last 17 days have been dropping like a rock. Sales are down 63.2% for the last month and this is very unusual. My normal sales per week are usually around $200.00 and now to going to $36.80 is not normal. I have over 200 items listed it just seems that out of that amount there should be some sales. Maybe eBay is getting ready to slam some more goofy ideas down the sellers throat.

The other day I was checking some of my listings and doing revisions and noticed that some of the descriptions were changed and they were not changed by me. The info that was changed didn't even have anything to do with my item. Now I am going to go through ever listing and double check the descriptions. More work for peanuts again.

eBay's growth recommendations are just ridiculous. They are telling me that there is 356 and I only have 233 listings. When I open that up many of the items have no other sales listed that were sold during their time period or there is no comparison, BUT I should lower my prices. If I wanted to give this merchandise away it would go to a charity. I have tried some of their recommendations and that did not bring more sales, nothing got better.

Promoted listings don't seem to work either for visibility as I was looking for an item the other day and went to page 10 and on that page I found items that were promoted. I was under the assumption that by using Promoted listings, your items are suppose to appear higher on the totem pole, but it does not seem to be the case.

Guess it is time to look at other venues as this site seems to be going down hill like a roller coaster.

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

Our sales are way down. I don't think the government shut down can effect it because the shut down it joke anyway. They will be shut down 3 days in Feb weekend and holiday. That is a joke. Is ebay screwing with their high tech computers search **bleep** again.

Re: Sales down to nothing from January 1 2019

After March / April 2018 my sales went down 50%.

Since then, they have been steady at that decreased number.

It feels like January and February are better, but not really. just more solidly in the same old/same old new level.

If you google search for anything this month you'd know that ebay actually got bumped up in the searches recently so give that a rest , thanks , and good luck , it's a snooze fest with no promos

Yes, I've been noticing that too . Some of the newer things I've listed aren't getting any views . I think it's kind of  odd when you get only two views in two days on several items  just as an example . I would expect the views to be higher than that especially over the weekend  when  more people  are home . The watchers on some of my older listings  are another mystery .Some will gather  5, 6, 7  watchers over the course of  a month  only to get relisted  again for another 30 days. I made only a meager amount of sales  this past week so it's worrisome  . We're not having another government shutdown  looks like  and the economy  is booming  so it's hard to see why this may be happening . Tulips
