Promoted listings fees

What happens when someone clicks on my sponsored promoted listing and buys the item, then returns it for a refund that I issued? Do I still have to pay for the fee for the promoted listing for that purchase?

Re: Promoted listings fees

A member of the promoted listing team had this to say on the subject in November:

Hi,

I am a member of the promoted listings team at eBay and wanted to get back to you regarding your concerns with ad fee & canceled transactions.

We do automatically credit the promoted listings ad fee for returns and canceled items. I would encourage you to check the following months invoice to see if the fee was indeed credited. If not, please send me the itemID of these transactions and I will check with our finance team to troubleshoot the issue.

Going forward please leave us feeback directly via the 'give us feedback' link in the campaign management tool. This way we can get back to you faster. Learn more here: http://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/faq/stores.html#m22_tb_a6__8

Re: Promoted listings fees

Haha. I like how they had to add to check your monthly invoice to see if it was credited. It's like they are not confident at all with their automated credit system.

Re: Promoted listings fees

There is absolutely nothing in the Promoted Listings Terms & Conditions about refunds or returns, nothing in the fee details either.

I'm confident that their lack of confidence is well warranted!

Re: Promoted listings fees

I just had a buyer return an item because it was "too small" - even though the dimensions of the item was clearly stated TWICE in the listing... Unfortunately for me, this was a promoted item and the fee was almost $80..! It will be interesting to see if I ever get the credit for that fee. I guess I have to review my monthly invoice - and that's a lot of fun when you sell over a hundred items a month...

And who pays for the return shipping..?

I noticed eBay emailed the buyer a shipping label that was marked "PRIORITY MAIL - RETURN SERVICE"  and this was not a small (or light) item...

Did I get shafted for the return shipping costs as well..?

Re: Promoted listings fees

I literally JUST got off the phone with CS because my promoted listing fee was NOT automatically credited back when a buyer asked me to cancel a sale. The person I spoke with said the fees are NOT automatically refunded even in the event of a return. They said I would have to call EVERY TIME an item that sells with promoted listings gets cancelled or returned. That is completely untenable and I wonder if that's incorrect information? Returns and cancellations are part of A SERVICE that sellers offer to buyers. I have FREE RETURNS so it is incredibly inefficient for me to place a call every time someone uses that service. Buyers do NOT understand how this works. I was told I must call every time and it a minimum 24 hour wait for a refund. How? Why?
