I've sold on eBay for 2 years and trying to decide if I will open an eBay store. Any suggestions or opinions would help.

Wow, with over 2,000 listings, you must be paying a fortune in listing fees. You definitely should look at the options for Store subscriptions. Depending on which categories you use, you probably want a Basic or even Premier subscription. This will save on those insertion fees and you'll also pay a lower final value fee rate.

You have 2000 items listed..........no doubt you would save ALOT of money every month with a store....

WOW! in the last 90 days you've sold 219 items! What are you waiting for?
Keep it simple...
Since the amount of your sales appear to garner a large enough profit to offset the store fees, then it's not a bad idea to get one. Check out the benefits by comparing the different kinds of stores eBay has to offer, especially if you are thinking of keeping the same amount of your sales here or even boosting them.
Just keep in mind there are tax implications as well as expense benefits of doing so. And remember that we have always been required to be reporting any transaction sales income regardless.
So jump in and get your feet wet! It seems it would make overall fiscal sense to you to open an eBay store, as the amount and number of your sales and listings suggest ... I made the decision to open a Premier store around 23 years ago, and have gotten used to the simple benefits and tax implications - not to mention the savings in eBay fees. Once it's up and going, it's not that big a deal and can soon become somewhat automatic, especially if you use additional software (I use Seller Ledger) to do lot of the automation and sorting for you.
Cheers, Duffy

How much are you paying now in listing fees each month?

Edit: nevermind, doubters gonna doubt

I recall another thread not long ago where this was posted. I'd like someone to explain it to me--why would some sellers not be charged listing fees on renewals and the rest of us are charged?

Because eBay still wants people to pay for stores, but at that same time doesn't want to drive people away who aren't willing to. Its not something they disclose, but they let people with free accounts, who list a lot & need to keep an eye on their counter, figure out themselves. It's pretty smart on their part. It's sorta how they changed their promotions

Without the obvious savings on listing fees, there are a variety of other perks that come with a store subscription.
I really enjoy having a little store and I don't have even close to half the number of listings you do. You could have a field day!

If you are still unsure if you want the year commitment of a store subscription, try a monthly subscription to determine which level of store fits your needs. @tarotfindsandmore has posted good info that does support why you should consider one.
-Good luck

@mordecai8614 It's not a planned ebay thing, because you selling an average of less than 2 a day (58 a month, 175 in 3 months) is NOT a reason that ebay would 'not charge you' due to final value fees.
It's simply a glitch and somehow you are not being charged. There are 1000s every day that do, so just consider yourself lucky.

Is this true? Ebay knowingly allows some to have never ending free listings, while others have to pay for a store to not be burdened with a large bill for listing fees each month.

It's not "ever ending free listings", I'm still capped at 250 NEW listings a month. You're exaggerating.
