Opening an eBay store

I've sold on eBay for 2 years and trying to decide if I will open an eBay store. Any suggestions or opinions would help.

You seem to be selling just fine.  Are you sure you want the added fees of a store.  Have to see if you would be using the perks that it includes and if that outweighs the fees.

Because eBay still wants people to pay for stores, but at that same time doesn't want to drive people away who aren't willing to. Its not something they disclose, but they let people with free accounts, who list a lot & need to keep an eye on their counter, figure out themselves. It's pretty smart on their part. It's sorta how they changed their promotions

Can you show any proof or is this just your theory?

Of course it's just a theory, but I haven't heard a better one.

But what is it even based on?  Your listings renew without fees?  Is that all?  Anybody besides you?  Also I'm not even sure I believe you about yours.  People come here all the time not understanding the Payments pages.

Also I'm not even sure I believe you about yours.

So you think I'm paying over $400 a month in listing fees, even though I never max out my allotted listings, just so I can avoid paying for a store that's much, much, cheaper? Sure, that makes sense

I have no idea what you pay or why.  But I take it your answer to whether you know of anyone else getting free relistings is "no."  So this whole idea of eBay having a selective, secret, seller retention program is based solely on your observation of your own account alone.  Got it, thanks.

Well I sincerely doubt OP is paying $600+ a month in listing fees when a premium store only costs $60 a month. And I also doubt I'm the only one on eBay (out of millions) lucky enough to have this perk. This just seems like common sense

General reply:

mordecai posted screenshots when this came up a while ago that appeared to confirm what they were saying about getting 250 new every month with their rollovers not counting towards the 250. (link)

I'd love for the original poster @al_939 to confirm whether or not they are paying insertion fees for those 2K active listings every month.

OMG I am so surprised you do not have a Basic Store.  You are really spending money on listing fees that you do not need to do.

Why have you waited so long?  Those listings fees add up so fast.  I mean hundreds of dollars wasted every month.

I say RUN don't walk to opening a Basic Store [this is the level you should have].  I don't know what has kept you from setting this up already, but you can set it up for a month to month so you can feel better about the store before you do the yearly subscription which is a lower fee.  But still with the month to month fee, you will SAVE hundreds of $$s a month.

@mordecai8614

The OP would be fine with a Basic Store for reasons I outlined in post 24.

It appears @al_939 did open a store.  I hope they come back and let us know which Store level they choose.

The OP has over 2000 items currently listed - it is simple mat & a no brainer.  They  sold 237 items in the  last 90  days.  no telling how  much they can save. depending on the store they  select.

I am going to try the basic store on a monthly basis. Once I am able to see how that works out I plan to go to the yearly plan.  I want  to thank everyone for your help and recommendations.
