I find what I want on ebay. I have an amount figured in my mind for a purchase, that is Paypal + Checking amount equals what I can spend (yeah yeah, if the bills are paid).
I authorize pmt and it'll grab my PP balance, then take the rest out of checking. Ah... but noooooo.... in a single sentence I never even noticed before, it says its taking it from my Credit card. I'm puzzeled, what card? I look up the number -- that's my flipping checking account debit card! What happened to taking the PP balance FIRST?
And THEN I realize that the Last pmt I made for a purchase earlier was also taken from ckg, when there wasn't that much in checking!
So yeah, NSF on my checking account. I talk sweet, get it waived because I have a great bank. But now I realize that anyone who's on Managed Payments will cause my payment to them to come from my Checking account FIRST and ONLY. It won't touch my PP money!
I am wondering how many people have fallen into this trap and gotten NSF charges because they assumed that its coming from PP!? Ebay trained us for years that it comes from PP balance first, then your checking acct.
Why doesn't ebay allow a buyer to CHOOSE where the money is coming from? How many buyers have gotten NSF charges on their chkg account because of this and (rightfully) blame ebay? And how many people, LIKE ME, will just NOT buy if a seller is on managed Payments until ebay allows us to use our PP account for payment!

Not blind at all @findingfinds888, I only noticed when I saw my baking statement 🙂
That's when I started playing with the PP buttons and there it was, hidden down in the mire!
They clearly don't want us to use it as first choice, oh well, too bad!
Baking statement? L'oven it.

that few thousand comes in handy sometimes, and it's not always easily replaced. i agree though that many times we assume that others are in the same situations we are, good and bad. my posts here try to look at the large picture and how it all affects all sellers, not just me.
btw gracie, i'm up for adoption if you could earmark some of that few for a monthly stipend? you wouldn't even have to provide room and board, heh ... have a great day!

Im a seller of 22 years on eBay and was never informed of this happening. Oh, both eBay and PayPal blamed each other. I think managed payment will be my final nail in the coffin for me. The way I understand managed payments? They hold all our funds until AFTER we ship items? Then when the buyers get items they will release our funds? That's not going to work for me.

Nope, they say they send our funds out the same day they are received....

Nope and Nope:
When the payment method or credit card company actually confirms the funds to eBay, the funds are then batched for that day and then they are sent to your account. When they are credited to you account actual availability depends on your receiving bank (thus a day or two lag). It has nothing to do with shipping - the only real difference between this system and PayPal's system is that PayPal fronts you the funds (that is why you can get an Unauthorized Use claim after shipping) before they are confirmed. Think of it as "the check clearing" in the "olden days".

Problem with eBay is they have a bad track record. What they say and what they do are 2 different things.

I hope you're right? I will keep some low shipping cost items on the site until I have 1 issue then I'm leaving. Do you know of any eBay charges for the forced managed payments? The last email they sent me said if I signed up before Sept 30th I wouldn't be charged. Charged for what? Being forced to use managed payments? Thanks for the reply.

You can get around this, they have hidden the button to do so but it is there.
When you check out, look at the Paypal button. Right under it in little letters it says change (or similar). Hit that, and "use PayPal balance" comes up and you can proceed as before.
You can also just hit the Paypal link directly and it will drop down a 'use PP balance" box for you as well.
Hope this helps 🙂
Hi @findingfinds888, @ifyouloveit gave some great information here and I wanted to just confirm that you can select your funding source through checkout as you would with most other sites that accept PayPal. You can also check out your PayPal account settings to designate a preferred payment method (more info here).

I have separate accounts tied to Ebay and Pay Pal because I don't want them to have access to my "real" accounts.. I keep just enough in to cover what I do.. Maybe other people are like me.. What a stupid thing to say to anyone,, you have no idea how people are spending or managing their money,, Just RUDE!!!!!

I'm NOT on MP and that's what they did to me. Screwed me all up! I had 300 in pp and about that in my checking account. They automatically tried to refund 500 from my bank account not taking 1 penny from my pp account.
