Ebay now forcing 5% minimums when sending offers for listings over $1000

According to ebay,

"The amount in your Offer to buyer must be lower than the Buy It Now price in the listing: at least 5% lower for items under $200. at least 3% lower for items between $200 and $1,000."

but now I'm being forced to give 5% minimum offers, no matter what the price is.

If a $3 item sends me an offer- I would just giggle and delete.

I would give you the $80 and $35 discounted offers...

As for $3 item offers, I stopped sending them. There's a guy who buys my Australian stamps who will accept 12 offers and pays for the individually (probably because eBay is forcing that now), and I'm the one who's annoyed. I am just letting items get added to the eligible offer list and doing nothing about it. I might send some offers after time away, right now the less I have to worry about packing and shipping the happier I am.

I wouldn't even bother sending an offer if it wasn't at least 5% off no matter what the items price. Even if it was a $2000 item I am not wasting my time or anyone elses by sending less than 5%.

Agreed. If I'm sending an offer, it's because I want to move that item on out and get rid of it. I don't send less than 15-20%.

I have too many items, so I always want to get rid of stuff... unless it's an easy sale and I know I'll get full price fairly soon.

Offers much under 30% are just a waste of time anyway.

I do really well with offers of 15-20%.

5% I wouldn't waste my time on, though.

It doesn't matter if you'd be insulted by the offer or not. That's not the point.

It's not that way anymore. Ebay isn't letting me give an offer for 2% on a $1000+ item.

It's forcing me to do 5% on items $200+ which is not what it's supposed to be.

Thank goodness eBay got rid of trivial offers and counter-offers from sellers. IMHO those sellers should just lower their price.

They aren't trivial. Because 2% off is a lot of money on a $5000 listing.

I tested on a $300 item..........can send an offer at 3%.......but not at 2%.

Anything less than 5% would be spam in my opinion. I believe many others would agree.

It's the same for me as well. I was hoping it was a bug but I'm guessing this is the new norm and they haven't bothered to announce anything or revise the website.

@iwasl_55 are you trying to send offers in the app or desktop/web experience?

I've heard from some other sellers who are getting a very strange message in the app when trying to send offers that is telling them they have to give a discount of 18.38% or $18.38.

Pretty clearly a glitch, and not exactly what you are experiencing, but I'm wondering if there may be something going on specifically with the app in your case too.

I was running into the same issue. It seems this is a bug in the mobile app. It forces a 5% offer no matter what the price is. If I go to the desktop version of ebay (not the app) I can send 2% and 3% offers.

App. I've only ever sent offers through the app. I don't even know how to do that on desktop.
