Don't wait: Claim $100 off Promoted listings now

"Take advantage of $100 off Promoted Listings with a priority strategy. Hurry! Reach more buyers and boost your sales with this limited-time offer"

I would probably take ebay up on this offer but I just get this feeling that I will get stuck paying full price with no recourse so no thanks

It appears to me that the only real gains to be had by ebay and sellers is promoting ebay items outside ebay,

all that promoting listings inside ebay does is make sellers pay ebay more for a  share of the existing pie, does nothing to make the pie any bigger.

For some sellers this is likely true.  But then those sellers should be smart enough to figure that out and stop using the tool instead of just blaming Ebay.  Sellers have the power to fix this problem unlike so many other that we have no power to fix.

I am basing this on ebay having a written policy that final value fees on listings with a  next day air shipping option will only be charged on the lowest cost option but they absolutely refuse to honor the policy and always, always charge on the full cost and refuse to honor the policy, I figure this is likely no different.

I always thought the 1 day shipping (next day air) applied to domestic shipping too, as long as you also offered a cheaper service.

Sure if you take those few words out of context and remove them from the balance of the sentence.  Just like most things, taking stuff out of context can change the meaning.

I don't think I took it out of context.  The sentence mentioned the 1 day shipping OR international and I referenced the 1 day shipping part.   FVF are not supposed to be charged for the 1 day shipping cost if we also offer a cheaper option.

Actually maybe a better approach to this is to ask sellers to share their experiences.  Especially sellers that have had it work like YOU think it works.  Have you ever had any seller say that for them it works as you believe the policy reads.  Just a suggestion.

The policy is very straightforward, the exemption says next day or international,no such thing as next day international.

I do not doubt that no one has been able to get the exemption, I believe that what likely happened is that they threw in the policy but they either lack the technical ability to code it or just do not want to.

OK, I respect your interpretation.  Do you know any seller that this has worked the way you feel it does?

Obviously it isn't if there are different interpretations of it.  As I said earlier I respect your opinion / view point.  So lets just settle this and I will tag someone that can tell us exactly how the policy is to be interpreted.  I may be wrong.  I'm willing to accept that.

In further wariness of the program, I fear that once you show any interest in the program, that you are beholden to it...Possibly during the entire time you sell here...

For instance, fall for the offer and maybe you see an artificial increase in sales?... similar to an artificial sales boost/increase a new seller may see to get them "hooked" on the site?

Then that artificial boost gets snatched away,  giving you the impression you need to increase your promotion percentage to get those sales back - Rinse and Repeat until you are giving up 40% to 50% of your items selling price in fees because now they got you promoting at 15+% to get the same results you felt you were getting at 2%?  hmmm - I truly wonder if that's how it could go...

And then even if you dont stick with it, might you see regular artificial sales decreases afterwards specifically designed to convince you PLs is the only way to get sales anymore?

I believe there is a level of coercion and extortion that comes with PL's - a belief easily discerned in  my suppositions above...

Re: Don't wait: Claim $100 off Promoted listings now

Unlikely, but if that were to happen, simply discontinue with the Promotion.  Turn it off and stop taking advantage of the rest of the $100 discount.  It doesn't have to be complicated.  It is voluntary to participate or not.

Hey @mam98031 I can see both sides of this.  My understanding has always been that it only applies to international orders.  But if that is the case, the wording definitely needs to change.  I've reached out to a few teams to try to get a definitive answer on this for everyone.

That's different from my experience kyle@ebay . I used to offer an option of next day shipping and whenever the buyer chose it I was charged FVF on my lowest domestic shipping option. I haven't offered next day shipping in years so I have no recent examples, but in the past that's how it worked.

I also know @iamalwaysright experienced the same, but like me he never ships next day anymore.

There's more discussion on this here:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/ebay-final-value-fees-on-1-day-shipping/td-p/34841107

Don't worry - you're not crazy here @bashort and you're reading the policy correct. I guess the question Kyle will need to answer is: Has the policy changed but not been updated, or is there a tech error causing you to be charged full FVF on overnight shipping.

You reported this problem in July kyle@ebay when @ssateneth brought it up. This is a great post to review for more use cases. @stephenmorgan also chimed in on that one saying he dealt with the same.

Re: Don't wait: Claim $100 off Promoted listings now

All of that information tells me that maybe years ago Ebay applied the rule as the OP believes, but it changed.  To my knowledge it on international shipments and not a US shipment.  Things change around here all the time without notice.  However I do believe this change isn't new but one that happened a while back.

It is likely that those that believe they should be getting this FVF discount got it years ago like you did and now are not because the rule changed.   Clearly sellers are not getting this lower fee anymore as is evidenced by the posts, unless they are giving it to some and not others, which would make no sense at all.

As I said earlier and as kyle@ebay mentioned as well.  The policy could and should be worded better.

I see and respect both sides of this discussion.  I think it is an important one and the Policy team on this specific policy needs to make it clear one way or the other.  I would hope what the OP believes were to be what they intended but isn't currently being applied and that this were to get fixed too.

I hope when all is said and done that it turns out in the best interest of the sellers.  It is a small but well deserved break in fees.

Thank you!!

I really do not understand why they would change the policy on next day, it is a risky business as a seller even with the discount. I do not really even like doing it and only do to help people out in a bind.

What I am now doing is I only add next day on request, If a buyer requests next day I just tell them I will add it as a option but I am going to increase the price of the item by 25% of the next day shipping charge.

Re: Don't wait: Claim $100 off Promoted listings now

If eBay changed the policy internally, they never updated the external policy page and never notified sellers of the change through any kind of seller update or announcement or email.

As policy is currently written, it applies to overnight domestic shipping. If the policy changed internally, eBay owes affected sellers fee credits until the date they can update the public-facing policy page and make sellers aware of the change.

Re: Don't wait: Claim $100 off Promoted listings now

IDK.  Maybe yes, maybe no, IDK.  I interpret the policy different than you do or the OP.  But I don't disagree with either of you that it should be the way you and the OP describe.  But isn't the answer in how Ebay is applying the policy?  Not that it shouldn't be changed, but they seem to be applying it on international shipments only.

IDK why there is so much back and forth with me specifically.  Unless you are just concerned that my interpretation isn't the same on the policy.

Ebay hasn't notified sellers of Policy changes for more that two years now.  Or at least they do it on very few.  And not all of the changes are ever covered in Seller Updates.  So this is nothing new.

The real answer to this thread is what kyle@ebay said and is doing by trying to get the correct department to either explain the policy or update the wording or both.

My edit on my original post here:  I was incorrect in stating that Kyle's post was the answer to this thread.  It isn't as the subject of this thread is about Promoted Listings, we just got sidetracked onto a different subject not related to what the OP set the thread up for.  A solution to the reason for the thread has not been selected yet.

I don't know if I get your meaning there. I only responded to 1 of your posts (not counting this reply) and my other response was to Kyle.

It's not just a policy here, it's a fee. eBay always notifies sellers of changes to fees.

The wording is, If you offer 1-day or international shipping - key word is OR. The wording hasn't changed in years, but the fee issue only started last year.

I'm looking forward to Kyle's update on this to let us know what's going on.
