Just a simple poll for the Community.
Do you think the GTC format is beneficial for your current eBay needs?
IF eBay gave you a choice????
Would you have said Yes or No to a GTC format? This is a simple yes or no question.
This was a very interesting poll posted about two weeks ago. My sales are down approximately 40% from last month and I feel the GTC policy is the primary reason. In my opinion It creates a lot more work/time to manage and takes a way the "sense of urgency" from potential buyers. I feel is it horrible for small/mid size sellers and will result in additional fees if sellers are not very careful.
Now that it's approaching a month since it was made the only fixed price option to sellers, what is your opinion?
Thanks

Its a giant NO from me. No chance to make your listings better, adjust prices. I know its work but i think Its a good thing to refresh listings and see what needs to stay and what needs to go in your items.....
Like it WAY BETTER the other way

NO!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do not want the GTC. But what chose do we have? It is a lot more work for me if I do not want to be charged a listing fee. Plus it takes away some of the control I have over my listings. The large amount of views can get people to wondering why other people are not buying the product.

I've used GTC for 10 years. Works for me.
BUT, I think it should go back to the way it was: OPTIONS
Sellers have different circumstances, so they should be able to choose what is best for them.

why can't sellers just end listings and then sell similar? You can end listings when you want. Sometimes its best to refresh something that has alot of views.

I don’t like it. I only get 1000 free listings and would rotate my items to get some “freshness” to them from month to month. I could manage my listings and rotate inventory with very little complication. Now I just a bigger bill from eBay when the auto relist an item. This all reeks of a money grab from eBay.

Mustang....what works for sellers with under 100 listings may not work for sellers with over 1,000 listings. It means 10 times the work ending and relisting.
Yes, I end and relist when I can now but there are times that I will be away and have not been able to end listings. Before... it that happened I had the opportunity to relist at my given time, not eBay's given time.
I've ended as much as 1 day in advance which that gives me one day of less exposure that I have already paid for in my store subscription.
It's a game changer for sure and I'm still with my decision as to NO TO GTC

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Such a shame that ebay have chosen to ignore such sound advice for years
Never used GTC until it was forced upon me, been used to falling sales on ebay over the past few years but the past month has almost been a case of "nothing else is working to offload the small businesses, so lets' try something else"
So that would be a big No.

Many items I have switched to auctions and others I have left GTC - as they have been for a long time. Some GTC sold right after listing, others have done well at auction. The sales keep coming.

I have pretty much always used GTC. It has worked for me. It is efficient. But I do not think it should be imposed on any of us. Everyone should have a choice. eBay, you need to stop forcing everyone!!! You always change something that is good. Don't ou guys have something better to do? This is why everyone gets mad at you!!!

NO. I tried it. I do not like it. GTC is not for me. And the fact that I have to babysit GTC listings to prevent them from relisting is a HUGE BURDEN!
I do not relist systematically. I revise, I change format, I remove, I launch new listings...
I need FIXED PRICE LISTINGS with DURATION OPTIONS where my listings END AUTOMATICALLY.

I have been a member since 2001 and up until about 3 years ago, just used ebay occasionally, selling items to fund new acquisitions - having collected antique maps and prints for many years. 3 years ago, really noticed that the demand for what I was selling quite strong and at that time, was listing about 1,000 items on the 30 day BUY IT NOW.
Since that time 3 years ago, I have actively been building this 'hobby' into a serious business and now have approx 47,000 listings. I have taken on 3 staff who work 3 days a week each, purchased a lot of equipment and services to grow the business and very recently invested in moving to a new premises, signing a 5 year lease in order to really expand this ebay business.
The level of sales increased in line with the increase in stock - 3 years ago selling approx £300/£400 per month and up until April this year, had increased to an average of £7,000 - £8,000 per month. We have been paying approx £1,100 - £1,300 per month to ebay in shop & selling fees, as well as the commission we pay to paypal.
Since the imposition of the new GTC, sales have dropped by 65% and for the first time in the last 3 years, had 2 days with absolutely no sales whatsoever.
I have the ebay Anchor shop, which is the top (most expensive) shop option (which the price increased from approx £250 - £470 about 18 months ago) and therefore have access to their 'concierge' service. I have been speaking to them about this issue and they acknowledge that thousands and thousands of sellers have been effected by this new GTC policy but are 100% adamant that they will not be bringing back the previous choices we had before.
They provided lots of reasons why their new policy would benefit my business but have not managed to come up with a single way or suggestion as to what I should be doing to reclaim the sales level we had built up to and even suggested that perhaps the ebay buyers had exhausted their interest in our inventory (!!).
The only aspect that they could agree with was that previous to the GTC policy, we had to manually re-list approx 1,500 listings per day, which took a bit of time due to ebay only providing the facility to re-list a maximum of 200 items at a time. I suggested that if we actually re-list any unsold items about 1 hour or so before they are due to end (and then be automatically be re-listed under the new GTC policy), and keep doing that every 30 days, that will keep the listings fresh albeit now they have removed the 'ending in 30 days' or less option, removing any sense of urgency by the buyer.
Doing this is going to take alot of time because we also have to end approx 2,000 listings every day and then re-list them, which takes about a couple of hours each day.
I am not sure what effect it will have in recovering the sales levels we achieved and can only monitor this over the next few months.
Needless to say, it has increased the urgency to find other platforms to sell in (we have recently started selling on Amazon but still exporting all our listings, so not sure how that will work), which we had been exploring previously. Now, we have to find these other platforms very quickly.
I am really not too sure what eBay are up to with this new policy. Clearly, they must feel that they will be earning more fees and commission by implementing this policy but I cannot find a single reason how this could help sellers in anyway. I am in ongoing conversation with their concierge service to try and get a better handle on what to do to recover the level of sales we were experiencing, but after 8 conversations, there is little that is forthcoming that suggests that recovery will happen in the short or long term.
Apologies for the rather long winded rant. This has hit our little but growing business really hard and am feeling really anxious about the best way to get back to where we were.
