Blocking bidders with zero or negative feedback

Ebay used to have a way sellers can automatically block buyers with zero or negative feedback.  Is that tool gone?  I have had an influx of non payers due to this and it isn't fair that I should have to keep my item from actually selling to another until the 5th day.

They didn't get rid of any options. You can't block 5 or less unless they're already winning or have bought a certain number of items from you. But you can't block them just because of the feedback number.

They got rid of the option to block bidders with negative feedback, in which a seller could choose to block ratings of -5 up to -1 (but not zero).  Back when this was introduced, IIRC members were automatically suspended if their feedback went below -5.  

Even when it was available, this option was widely misinterpreted to mean that sellers could block bidders/buyers with a feedback rating of +5 or less. So it's not surprising that this obsolete option is often misremembered.

OK, let's say that eBay, from the very, very beginning, had allowed sellers to block any and all buyers with 0 feedback.

How many buyers do you figure would there now be on eBay? Please give this some careful thought.

It never existed.  Despite how you remember it, there was never such an option.

Everyone starts at zero.  Imagine walking into a shop and being told you were not allowed to buy anything there because you had never bought anything there.

Anyhow, it may vary depending upon the merchandise you sell, but I've never found a feedback score predictive of how much, if any, trouble a buyer will be.

Interestingly enough that has (sort of) happened to me. There is  trade show called PPAI which requires you to show prior purchases (to prove you are in fact a retail business) before you can register to buy. The purchases can be either at the show or with companies who display at the show., BUT until you register you can not see what companies are at the show (in order to know whether or not you have bought from them).

Unfortunately, Accepting an offer does not require immediate payment.  I even message them prior stating I will accept their offer if they agree to pay within 24 hours.

I have had more than 50% defaults from people with 0 or neg feedback.  It's a game to them.

Many sellers say that they 'remember a time' when they could block buyers with zero feedback ... but it never happened. 

Only buyers with a -1, -2, -3, or -4 feedback scores could be blocked ... and that was back in the day when buyers could receive negative feedback:  prior to 5/2008.

Repeating false information doesn't make it true @lb-squared 

I started reading (and answering) posts on the Boards in 2005.  Sellers were asking at that time how to block buyers with low feedback ... and being told then that it had never been possible.  It still isn't possible all these years later ... but that doesn't change people's false memories.
