Anyone else not getting feedback?

I have sold 25 items in the last two months and only 8 have received any feedback (all positive, but still...) Is this just the trend on eBay nowadays? Feedback used to be the best way to keep people in line. Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?

I guess I never had these bad experiences with giving or receiving feedback. It's a shame, really, that it went that way. Believe me, there was a time when it was used as incentive for people to do the right thing.

My apologies~you are right and I remember that time.  As Dennis would say, Alas!  As the recipient of false, retaliatory feedback, and hostility and abuse from sellers, my experiences were quite different than yours.  I'm glad that you emerged unscathed from all that.

Some buyers left after they had those experiences.  You are fortunate that you never had that type of experiences.  Yes, you could call CS and get it removed but there was no reason for it to have been posted in the first place.  I  thought about your post and mine and realized that you may have intended it to mean just what you have said here~and that is what it was supposed to be for~an accurate rating of each partner's experience that would hopefully serve as a deterrent for abhorrent behavior for each party.

Sorry, but I have to take issue with this statement of yours:

Ebay should leave 5 stars and positive if feedback is not received after say a week.  At least make it somewhat relevant.

As has been discussed over and over, feedback is not mandatory.

Secondly, as a buyer, sometimes a transaction is not 100% wonderful from my point of view.  Not a major issue where I want to leave bad FB or open a case, but some minor flaw; however, I do NOT leave damaging feedback, just leave none at all.  If eBay suddenly decides that my experience merited positive FB for that seller, I will suddenly decide to stop buying here.

You are not alone; others have said the same thing.  Also, many would then leave negs instead of choosing to not leave anything rather than have a false positive posted for a transaction that they were not happy with.  It's not good when honest feedback is removed; and it isn't good if false positives that are not justified are given.

When the feedback can be manipulated on BOTH sides it cannot be trusted ...Sadly both sides lose. Bad sellers are able to flourish, good sellers who have worked hard and done everything right lose good reputations as good customers who pay immediately no longer trust the system and walk away from EBay and take their hard earned $$ elsewhere.

So true.  It's been said for some time that SNAD have dramatically risen.  Chicken and the egg; but is it because of intense feedback manipulation that SNADs have risen, or did intense feedback manipulation occur as a result of the SNADs?

It makes me feel real good when a buyer responds with feedback indicating they are very pleased. I also enjoy leaving feedback when I am very happy with a seller. I've only left two neutrals for sellers the whole time I've been here. They were deserved to say the least.

Yes, it is a warm fuzzy for both buyers and sellers, although some say they would like to see feedback for buyers go away.  To each his own.  Perhaps they think buyers will be less likely to leave them bad feedback if buyers don't get feedback.  But since it costs nothing, and can be a good advertisement/marketing tool, and can boost both buyer and seller, it makes sense to keep it.

Re: Anyone else not getting feedback?

I actually leave feedback for the majority of my transactions.  Buyers can only get positive feedback, and frankly, I use a canned thank you statement for them as it's for the most part meaningless.  I do that for most of my sellers too.  I  generally don't leave buyer feedback until  a week or so after my sold items are delivered so that I have an opportunity to resolve issues should they arise.  If a buyer does something extraordinary I will give them Kudos.  If they give me unwarranted grief I don't leave any feedback  unless I respond to something they wrote for me.  I definitely will give more personal feedback to sellers for extraordinary service as well.  If a seller won't work out a problem  and eBay has to get involved to resolve a dispute I leave an honest factual comment.

Since mentioning a case can get your feedback removed, I play it safe and never mention either the case or the results: that eBay had to refund me.   I also follow feedback policy so it is not removed.  One leaves a neg for a reason, and you hope it won't disappear.  As far as cases, I have found, more often than not, you have to get eBay involved.

Re: Anyone else not getting feedback?

CONGRATULATIONS!

I only receive feedback from about 25% of my buyers.

If you received 8 feedback for 25 transactions.  You're beating me!

My general experience is that once most buyers get their widget, they forget all about me.

Re: Anyone else not getting feedback?

Many years ago I used to worry about not getting feedback for a job well done. Nice auction item, Fast shipping ,extra careful packing. Once I actually asked the buyer what didn't they like ?The  buyer "said would you like it back? That cured me. Now I still work like I would expect to be treated. If feedback happens it's a plus!

I agree with you! But keep treating buyers like you would like to be treated !That's so you can look in the mirror!

A great sentiment, to be sure.  But sadly many have no problem looking in that mirror, no matter what.

Re: Anyone else not getting feedback?

When I have a problem with a purchase I contact the seller to let them know. It gives them an opportunity to resolve without getting eBay involved.  With US sellers it's generally because my item was damaged in transit as I buy fragile collectibles.  <Most US sellers tend to be gracious and refund quickly because I always send pictures of the damage.    I  still have trouble with some sellers who don't understand that they have to accept returns or give refunds for damaged items.  Some think that  because they do not take returns that they aren't responsible when it's becomes damaged after shipping.   I've also a had a few who stated that I didn't pay for insurance but it was never mentioned in the listing or offered either.   They don't know that insurance is for the seller.   I'm sure they weren't happy when they lost their case and got a defect.  Then there are those who try to claim that the already broken or defective item that they mailed me was damaged when it was returned to them to try and avoid refunding.

The Chinese sellers are the ones who force you get eBay involved  because they don't want to pay return shipping charges or refund you for items that never arrived.  These are such low cost items  which  doesn't make sense to me why they give their buyers the run around when  it's easier just to refund and move on.  I don't understand why eBay lets them continue to sell here when I know they have racked a large amount of cases where eBay had to step in.

Re: Anyone else not getting feedback?

I believe that all sellers are getting much fewer feedback than they got a few years ago.

> I noticed that some people are saying things like this:  What can you do with 2758 feedback that you cannot do with 2551 feedback?

Obviously, a seller cannot sell more if he/she has a slightly higher feedback score.  People who ask that question probably do not realize that it is not MORE FEEDBACK that is important but it is RECENT FEEDBACK  that is important

>Some sellers say they do not leave feedback for a buyer who has been a problem.  The only thing that accomplishes is to let the buyer think that the seller thinks the buyer does not deserve a positive feedback.   Experienced sellers want to be sure to give a positive to a buyer who has been a problem because if the buyer thinks the seller would have liked to give negative feedback, the buyer is more likely to be a problem again.

I contact the seller to let them know, too, because that is eBay policy, but have very rarely achieved resolution that way.  I always send pictures as well but although there are good sellers on eBay, and I vet very carefully, my courteous contact is met with abuse and hostility.  I understand that no seller wants returns but you know buyers don't want them, either.  They want what they bought in the condition specified.  I can only wish I had your experiences.  We buy the same type items.    A case is almost always needed, and eBay strongly recommends that everything go through the Resolution Center Return process.  This can improve communication.  I buy with tolerance and often just live with whatever, but some things are just unacceptable~such as with significant parts shown but not included, and not stated as such in the listing, or broken in four pieces or more.  If a return is required, I return.

Many don't seem to be aware of the MBG~saying it says no returns and that's it, even though it is not as described.   Thank God for the MBG!  I rarely buy from China but have encountered what you say~needing to open a case and escalate for a refund.

Yes, I still see listings that say, let me know if you want insurance as there will be an extra charge~also ones that say they are not responsible for any damage and not responsible if the item doesn't arrive.  They can say it was damaged while in your possession, although it arrived that way.  Sometimes you can now find damage in the listing pictures but not noted in the description since you know it is there.  They can claim the item sent back was not the one they sent you, when it absolutely is.

Again, I know there are good sellers here.  I can only wish I had your experiences.
