eBay is intentionally hiding listings from potential buyers "for better shopping experience". It is now included in User Agreement.

Looks like the platform is coming to its death - no sales for me either, and it is not just a typical summer slowdown - I had never seen anything like what`s going on on eBay recently. New algorithm and force of GTC (which is also correlated to no or slow sales) are the reasons for no sales on eBay.

I think so too ,, death bed time,, probably  . What's happening to everyone's  sales  doesn't make any sense . I've got stuff  with multiple watchers here  but they just sit there week after week. I've lowered prices , bumped up the promotions  and sent really low offers on the most  popular items ,, but nothing,, nothing works  . Yet these very same items are selling like hotcakes on other selling  sites . Matter of fact there's one particular  design of a necklace that  I make that sells within an hour  or two -- but over there ,, not here,, it's never here anymore  . I just sold another that I just listed last night -- over there . I agree with the OP and everyone else that the lights have gone out . And since this slump has lasted for months and months  now  perhaps they  never will again . Hoping for  the best .  Tulips

I mean this nicely - not critically - if you are selling well on another site (if you are selling jewelry you make I can assume what site you mean) why bother with ebay?

I sell books and media and Amazon brings in most of my sales. I also still list here because sales limp along and it's enough to boost my overall sales volume a little.  But just came off listing a lot of auctions and sell through was the pits. I"m talking about book lots. I guess I should get busy and list the rest of the stuff in my store but the lots seem to stagnate there.

It's the Blackout eBay server rotation, they shut off a bunch of servers (visibility)...I got used to it...about 5 years ago. You will see one or two sales in 2 or 3 states, in like one weeks span...if you are just selling in the USA, ....if you are lucky to get any sales....then all of a sudden, two weeks later...a bunch of sales.

Tell us a listing you say Ebay is hiding from you so we can squash that rumor.

When I searched for "hidden listings" I found 240 listings.  Smiley Indifferent

When I searched for "nothing" I found 33 listings.  And, sellers are actually selling Nothing.  Smiley Happy

When I searched for "coolections" I found 42,655,522 listings!  Smiley Surprised

I couldn't make this stuff up ... go check it out.  Only at eBay.

@beautifulbeauty2012

What does that prove?

When I search for "prove" I found 10,306 results.  Smiley Indifferent

Just some example of interesting search results.

Really !?!? How is he to know which listings eBay is hiding if the listings are hidden ?

@gwens*4saleitems*

The better question is how does he know they are hidden. Has he looked and not found it ? Every person so far who has said an item was hidden I searched and found it. Not a single person to date has proved otherwise.

As a buyer some things I really want are way more than I am willing to pay. I usually just wait and what I want will pop up cheaper and I will buy it.

You and just about every other buyer on Ebay. Those sellers are doing great and don't come here complaining.

If you understood how search works you would find out that there are 10,306 titles with that word. At least you are trying and getting used to searching.

Re: An Abrupt and Complete Stop in Sales: Why? What's Going On?

It definitely has a lot to do with the economy, though ebay is the most to blame, I would agree on that.

The economy is not good, despite Trump's insistence it is, it definitely is not. Businesses are falling like dominoes here in St Louis. Everything is shutting down, even our grocery stores are failing here.

Inflation is out of control! My mother's $5,000 a month pension check is no longer enough for her to cut the bills. She's planning to get rid of her home and downsize to an apartment because she can no longer afford it. She ended up owing hundreds more on her taxes this year too because of the GOP's garbage tax plan.

Yet, the average American doesn't make anything even close to $5K a month. People are broke, that's why they aren't buying.

Look at the costs of essential goods and services, they have skyrocketed over the last year.

and from w hat I read the cost of many items are soon to go up due to the new trade war. Over the weekend we were shopping for a new couch and the furniture store owner warned us the prices are going up soon because they get their furniture from China.

Re: An Abrupt and Complete Stop in Sales: Why? What's Going On?

Your mother's income must be more than $60,000 per year if the she is paying more in taxes.  My income is slightly more than that and in line with prior years, and my taxes went down.

As for the economy being the reason for declining eBay sales - I'm not buying it.   I'm sure us older folks are buying less on eBay as many have been downsizing.  Plus as a senior I spend more on services and consumables, but much less on clothing, furnishings, and dust collectors.   I also have no desire to buy anything made in China.

i have noticed that when horrible depressing shocking news/events,it kinda puts buyers out of a buying mood and of course it's back to school type buying and the market lost %3 yesterday (that means peoples 401k's lost more than likely <0r> or= that amount) uncertainty affects some items more than others gold went up like $14 dollars an ounce yesterday it's been gaining quite a bit in the last few months, when people get a little nervous they buy gold making it go up.

My take on things anyway,i think horrible shocking news events have the most affect in peoples buying mood.Art has a very sensitive pulse for the general mood of people it seems like.

Hope your sales improve

Re: An Abrupt and Complete Stop in Sales: Why? What's Going On?

I have not started listing again yet but never stopped buying....so no skin in this game.  All I can tell you is my experience as a buyer who searches new.  Yes, listings have literally disappeared when I went back a second time to look for them.  Again I search new, not by words, so it was a matter of just repeating the search....and listings literally were no longer there.

To further add:  They were not in sold or completed - even hours later.

Your sales flying off the shelf on the other platform says something very important about what is going on. Perhaps people shop for the more unique on other platforms now and have given up finding them here. Just a speculation.

I purchased >1000 items on eBay and have an engineering background, so I think I understand how search works (and is supposed to work).

In 2019 eBay Search stopped working properly (i.e. as expected by users) and this is being confirmed over and over here.  Also, see the Technical Issues threads.

We're just waiting for you, and the few others who are denying there's a problem, to get used to the fact that there is one.  Smiley Indifferent

Re: An Abrupt and Complete Stop in Sales: Why? What's Going On?

I was researching some Pokemon plush items before listing a couple - I needed to know the name of one of the figures as well.    When I searched only Pokemon plush - there were over 40,000 results.  When I added the word dinosaur to narrow the search - over half the results were not Pokemons.   Needless to say I had far more luck using Google search -  took me less than five minutes to find the critter I had been searching eBay for over 20 minutes.
