Hi guys-

Do you have an answer to this question I posted a week ago regarding the additional listings starting August 1?

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Additional-monthly-zero-insertion-fee-listings-for-most-seller...

When a seller lists something in one of the select categories that saw an increase- will that come from the “additional” allotment or will it come from the base fixed price allotment?

For example- a Premium store seller has 1,600 listings. 100 are in one of the select categories, but those listings renew early in the month before the 1,000 limit is reached. Will those 100 listings come off the 1,000 fixed limit or will they come off the additional allotment?

Hi @coffeebean832, I'm still looking into this to get confirmation for you, sorry I haven't touched base yet! While I believe it will come from the specific listings allotment for those categories, I will let you know once I have a definitive answer.

Hi @gwzcompsas we discussed last week, the eBay Guaranteed Delivery date would not place any additional responsibility on your part - a seller is always responsible for late delivery, and Fast N' Free is shown when the the delivery date falls within the time frame for that program. While I understand you are concerned that the estimated delivery dates themselves are not correct, I must stress that your listings showing Fast N' Free is separate from the concerns you have about the delivery dates provided to the buyer and this program only serves to benefit you by providing additional protections. Without this being shown in your listings, you would still be expected to accept a return for an item that was delivered late if your buyer wanted to return the item, and you would be responsible for a full refund along with covering the cost of return shipping.

Estimated delivery dates take into account your historical shipping behavior to provide a more accurate delivery estimate - if you say you take 5 business days to ship out orders but you almost always ship out within 2 days, then this will impact the estimated delivery date shown to your buyers. If you say you take 5 business days to ship out orders and you regularly take 5 business days to ship out your orders, then this will be regularly included in the calculations for delivery estimates shown to your buyers.

This doesn't mean we won't look into the examples that have been provided, I just wanted to provide some context as to how we work to provide accurate shipping estimates for our buyers and how that may not be calculated in the way you expect.

I guess I am confused on what you are trying to say.  I am responsible for late delivery, but those are YOUR delivery dates not mine.  I guess I can up my handling to 10 days again and get no sales to solve this.  These games only hurt eBay in the long run.  I'm not going to let your childish games cost me money.  I can sell the stuff elsewhere.  I just want to set reasonable expectations with my buyers and not have eBay jeopardize my business by manipulating my handling and delivery times.

vrykalak,

I'm not ebay, but the short answer is: it has been that way for a long time. You can list auctions in other categories, but the listings won't be free. However, the mention of "Fashion and Collectibles" creates confusion, because those two words actually encompass 13 actual eBay categories.

Good afternoon Trinton & Selling Community. I find this Weekly Chat to be the single most useful source of reliable info.

Other sellers bring up great examples of concerns, that the "Help" articles are unable to address. No Cookie-Cutter or Scripted answers is why I try to read the Chat every week!

And I think that is because the Staff that host this Chat almost invariably dig into issues, give answers that are specific to a post, and rarely give in to sounding snarky or exasperated. Can't say I could be as diplomatic!

That being said, (you knew this would have to have a grumble attached..) I would like it if once the Chat is closed, and Staff has followed up on the last of the posts (Thanks, btw), could it be offered in add'l format with thread grouped together? It can be a bit ADHD-ish to follow, when read at a time after the realtime Chat.

Hi @easterbasset, so glad to hear that you have been enjoying the chats and we appreciate your kind words! I totally agree that a format change would help with readability, particularly for those who come to the chat after it has concluded. Though I can't give any details at this time, I can say that we are working on some format adjustments for the near future that I really think you will like 😋

tyler@ebay.

Those 13 ebay categories are called "Fashion and Collectibles" by ebay, a term I have repeatedly asked eBay to change, since many sellers take it to mean only two ebay categories, Clothing and Collectibles. eBay should NEVER use that term without including a clear reference to the 13 categories.

@nc-daydreamer

A simple misunderstanding.  They are not decreasing.

We are located in NYC and we have terrible situation with our post office. They don't have anybody to work so they close the office at random time. They don't have enough people to deliver mail which mean we need to wait for days until somebody will pick up our items. Nobody pick the phone at the post office at all. It is not going to change overnight as NYC was hit very hard with pandemia and some people isn't here anymore and some just afraid to work. I am taking care about disable person so for 5 month I am not going outside.

I think eBay stopped seller protection for late deliveries while USPS taking longer and longer to deliver even Priority Mail and forget about other type of mailing. Do you think eBay can help sellers with this serious situation? If we can't control situation how we can change it on order to keep up with unrealistic delivery estimates?

Hi @rock4best - I'm sorry to hear about the severe impact the pandemic has had on your local post office! We work with major carriers daily to ensure that service disruptions are reported appropriately. I am not aware of any additional extensions being planned but you should keep an eye on the Announcement Board (here), as that's where any updates would be shared.

Something you could consider doing in the mean time is adjusting your handling time to give yourself an extra day or so just in case the local office is short staffed or delayed. Thanks!

Hi Trinton,

I’m inquiring about an issue I’ve reported to customer support, on the technical boards, and here in the weekly chat multiple times for a year and that other sellers have been reporting for longer than that.

The issue is that the estimated delivery dates on my listings are not only over-stated, they make no sense. I’ve supplied customer support, Brian, and you with multiple examples, and the last time I inquired, I was told everything had been passed along and you didn’t need more. I’ve waited several months since last reaching out to you, but still no fix…

To refresh your memory, I have a one-day handling time on my listings. I always ship same or next day. I never fail to meet top-rated metrics.

Here are examples from today:

Priority Mail

  • To my own zip code, the estimated delivery date is Tuesday, 7/28.
  • To the furthest zone, the estimated delivery date is Tuesday, 7/28.

First Class

  • To my own zip code, the estimated delivery date is Monday, 7/27 – Wednesday 7/29.
  • To the furthest zone, the estimated delivery date is Monday, 7/27.

In all cases the estimated dates are incorrect and don’t even make sense. It does not take the same length of time to mail a package to myself as it does to mail one across the country and in all cases, the estimated delivery is over-stated. It does not take longer to ship Priority than it does First Class.

This bug does not occur with every seller, and so puts me at a disadvantage against my competitors. It is harming my livelihood.

I would like to hear the explanation from eBay as to why this is OK not to fix after all of these reports from me and others. Can you provide an update? Again, I will happily make myself available to answer questions if dev cannot understand the problem or cannot understand how to fix it.

Thank you!

@inceptions  I wish we had more information for you concerning this. I can confirm that both Trinton and I have sent your examples to the appropriate team for review. We're happy to send another report with current examples if you'd like to send us an email with these details as that is something within our ability.

Re: Community Chat, July 22 @ 1:00 pm PT - General Topics

 I agree!!

I have always puzzled at the Estimated Delivery dates ebay software displays on my listings.

Overall, very little logic. And always, ALWAYS, ridiculously overestimated. I have done many episodes of monitoring, and clocking the actual time to a buyer.

I ty to ignor sense of this discouraging buyers.

I now add a comment in description that those estimeates are usually inaccurate, and items should arrive in no more than 4 business days. I have many a spreadsheet  that I can list items confidently with that promise.

I go through spells of doing spot checks, only to see items I have commited to shipping PM,  will have a Delivery date later that a FCP, or PM Express (overnite) given longer Delivery time than PM.

Over time, I have deduced, when I have the serendipitous ability to have items into my USPS carriers hands (& actually scanned at the time they 1st have them in their possession) the same calendar day, instead of next day, the algorithm is impacted in a big way. Both scenarios are within my stated handling time. I then notice if I 'strike'  at those fluke windows of lesser handling times, and spend time in hard push to create new listings that are in my 'on deck' items, they get crazy good Estimated Delivery times.

It even influences my choice to either Relist unsold items, or list them as 'Sell Similar', giving the item a new intro to Active listings. Relist when I am shipping within  my stated Handling time, or Sell Similar if buyers pay early in the day, and the item goes out same day.

That was actually done a few times in the past, and was extremely useful.
Someone put out a report that showed all the comments resulting from a particular question together.

Do you have any other suggestions to deal with these postal issues?  I change my handling time and you give buyers unreasonable expectations to deliver before I'm expected to ship.   I'm just frazzled trying to work with ebay's rules and metrics and dashboard and seller status stuff when I'm just working as hard as I can.

Hibrian@ebay

Thank you. I have every confidence that you did pass on the examples. I would just like to know why eBay ignores them. They haven't just come from me but from many other sellers for WAY over a year (I've just personally been reporting for a year).

eBay has been made aware of the problem and is choosing not to fix it. I would like to understand why that is.

At any rate, if you can let me know the email to use, I'll do that. Thanks again! 🙂

Hi @nc-daydreamer - @mam98031 gave you solid info on this. We announced an increase to the insertion fee credits for store subscribers. You can read more about it here. Thanks!

Brian helped me out last week to get a defect removed where I tried to send a refund but eBay's site was giving me an error. Brian said "if you run into a problem issuing a refund then it's best to contact customer service for help. You can go to this page and select 'Have us call you' at the very bottom"

I agree completely, but there was no link in his response and no "have us call you" on this page.

How can I contact a live person at eBay if this happens again???
