Is that a mobile browser? Try viewing the page in desktop mode, if that is the case.

Or else try using a different desktop browser to use that customization setting. You should be able to make changes for your account in one browser and see the changes reflected in other browsers.

No, that is desktop on my Mac.  I tried Chrome and Safari.

I'm going to try it on my wife's PC next.

Try using Firefox to change the customization settings.

Re: how to stop ebay from opening new tabs

I'm not going to download a browser just to change the settings.

I'll just leave it be.

Thanks for the help.

Good catch!

If you are just browsing a category rather than searching, the customize menu will not appear. Be sure to search using keywords and hit the "search" button, then check the List/Gallery menu on the search results page.

Ok, I see that and it works.  I don't know why it differentiates but at least I have a workaround.

Thank you sir.

They must be copying Aliexpress - it's an annoying feature there too.

Re: how to stop ebay from opening new tabs

It's set up deliberately by ebay to do this, it is a cynical ploy to generate more activity (more sales, more money for them, more greed and control) for their service. As with all other mega Greedster companies there is no customer support, no method of contact to resolve these type of issues.

They deliberately avoid customers with problems they filter them out. I sent an email to impact@ebay.com on  30 Jan 2021 about unnecessary waste created by ebay activity, I am still waiting for a response? I just close the last tab as it generates a new tab to counter it, then use  gumtree, amazon or another of their rivals if they p**** me off. Being excessively Greedy and controling is not smart.

Re: how to stop ebay from opening new tabs

I just installed that extension in Chrome and it seems to be working.  Thanks a lot for that link!  I kept seeing so many people complaining about the "opening a new tab" issue but nobody was posting a solution (or ebay was removing the solution, lol).  Anyway, thanks again!  Such a relief!  Now, who wants to build an auction site to compete with ebay?  These types of things suck and the monopoly in this area needs to be expanded!

Use Incognito mode. It works like it should. Hope this helps...

Re: how to stop ebay from opening new tabs

I don't understand why this is an issue. In order to 'see' the next thing on your search, you either 'close' the 'new tab' and you will just return to the original search, in the order you were in to 'look at the items'; or you 'click' the tab before it to leave that item open because maybe you want to 'compare' it to another item; then easy to click back and forth.

Are your tabs not showing at the top of the screen?

Re: how to stop ebay from opening new tabs

If search results are opening in new browser tabs, you can change that by going to your customize settings on the search results page -- use the link in the upper right where you can choose between List and Gallery view to get to your Customize menu:
