Did you mean:

eBay randomly inserting <strongr> into my listing descriptions after saving.

I can't get rid of the things. When I edit the listing and fix it, once I save it's inserted again at random points in the listing description. I tried creating a different listing description from scratch and it still did it. I have stuff to get done today and this is frustrating the hell out of me.

Item # 286441886038

Computer - Windows 10 - Firefox

Item number above wasn't the first listing.

It's the most recent.

Yeah, all my earlier listings look okay. Just this one.  Its almost like its bolding the wrong stuff, like reversed.  Let me try something.

Well, that's better.  I removed the bolds entirely.  At least it looks uniform now.

Re: eBay randomly inserting <strongr> into my listing descriptions after saving.

You can recreate the problem while creating a new listing.  (You won't need to complete the new listing.)

Steps:

Type a sentence into the decription box.

Hit Enter a couple of times and type another sentence.

Select one of the words in the first sentence and click the Bold tool.

Select one of the words in the second sentence and click the Bold tool.

Now, click on Show HTML Code.  Then, un-click Show HTML Code.

At this step, the remainder of the second sentence becomes bolded.

Is this going to be fixed or are we stuck with it?

Hey @ebooksdiva! Do you have an item number that I can use for reference?

Yes this is a new listing 256873949923, this is a revised listing 365438524674.

@ebooksdiva Thank you for sharing. I did confirm that there is a ticket open for description texts being automatically changing to bold letters. The ticket is ALERT15856 and is being worked for a resolution.

Re: eBay randomly inserting <strongr> into my listing descriptions after saving.

I'm guessing the tech team is aware of this, but I believe this is the logic that's causing the issue:

They are converting the "b" in "br" tags (i.e. line breaks) to "strong". So "br" becomes "strongr". My guess is they were trying to do an accessibility update to convert "b" tags to "strong" tags, and configured it so that any "b" in an HTML tag gets converted.

Seems like the type of thing that should have been caught before pushing it to production...

Yes, I noticed it the other day when I un-bolded some text and eBay changed it back to bold.
Happened a few times.

It's also removing the spacing, indentations, etc.

Mac - safari / Firefox produced the same results.

No change as of today.

Yep, I noticed it to. Most of my custom html templates are changed, some to what looks like a 5-yr old wrote. I won't be happy if I have to go back and fix 1300+ listings myself.

Re: eBay randomly inserting <strongr> into my listing descriptions after saving.

same issue, but I'll add it's not  just "strong" tag (and a ton of them) it's also completely ignoring line break "br" tags - clean up the mess go out of html mode, inserts all that junk again, remove the html and do just text - still issues, ignoring line and paragraph breaks, leaves everything bold text, remove the bold, listing stays bold text (everything) anyways.

Isn't it just convenient how these type of "issues"  become thing on or directly at dawn of weekends where many sellers have plans for new listings - this one is big mess, can't even clean it - so bad I had to abandon new listing - was only able to do 2x via "sell similar" via copy and past of plain text from other listings.

Called they said issue is known and they are "working on it" - I said - work faster!

I don't know about commonality, but your new listings have the same issue unless you chose to use Bold font.
I use Windows 11 with edge browser or iPad with Safari. No difference.

doesn't matter really because this isn't a personal system issue, it's a site wide issue within ebay, nothing anyone can do except them to fix the cause of the glitch(es).

devon@ebay too bad the bold text is only the MINOR issue in the problem - it is ignoring standard html tags like line breaks and paragraph tags, inserting <strong> tag hundreds of times, changing and adding font tags just as much as well as <div> tags - it's a complete and utter mess and worse you clean the html up go out of html mode, just inserts all that junk again - it's UNFIXABLE by users - ebay needs to fix this - ASAP!

Re: eBay randomly inserting <strongr> into my listing descriptions after saving.

I submitted my new listings to go live now anyway. I can't afford for them not to be up when my auctions in the same category end Sunday night and people look for add-ons. At least they can read the text even though it's a formatting mess. I have OCD and it's tough to flat-out ignore. Lol.
