Who else thinks managed payments are awful? Why do we need to wait so long for our money?

Just lie the title says..............

Who else is massively disappointed by the managed payments way of doing things?

I recently was asked to register and set up for new managed payments on my seller account. After a few sales I can say that I am so unhappy with the way that ebay have implemented this.

Why do we have to wait so long for the money to clear? What exactly is going on here. It's pretty outrageous. 4 days to be sent to the bank, and then more days for it to clear in the bank, as opposed to the immediate clearance under the old system when it was payed into paypal. I want my money straight away. It's enough that ebay wants to take over the odds for their charges. I can just about live with that, but to delay the payout, undoubtedly making something from MY money in the process is just outrageous.

The customer service and the ability to talk to a human if anything goes wrong, which it has on a few occasions, just adds insult to injury.

Something needs to be done.

I'm seriously thinking of leaving ebay and finding another way to sell online. It's an unfair and unjust system in place now, and I don't think people should put up with it. Whoever thought this up needs to be sacked. It's just plain wrong.

I disagree. When you sell, you should be payed, and it should go through immediately. Anything less, or any delay is inferior to the old system. To have to wait is just not acceptable in 2021. Instant transfer is what we need. The technology exists. This is the age of instant transfer, the fact that it takes days is just ridiculous, and it's obvious that's somehow working out in ebay's favour and not the sellers.

Do you think the grocery store or gas station gets paid instantly when you use a credit/debit card?

They have to wait to receive the funds, just like we do.

This is a very weak argument. It doesn't matter how grocery stores or gas stations are paid. With PayPal, sellers were paid instantly. With the new MP, it takes days to even weeks to get paid. The point is that this is NOT an improvement, but a giant step backwards. To make your analogy equivalent, we would have to make credit card companies wait days or weeks LONGER than they do now to receive their money. Do you think the credit card companies will be OK with that?

When a buyer would pay using a credit/debit card, do you think Pay Pal received the funds instantly, no they did not, they had to wait to receive the funds also.

The reason they gave us instant access to the funds is because they knew the buyers payment was good and they would be receiving the funds from the buyer in a few days.

Paying your credit card bill and using a credit card to pay is completely different.

If you paid your credit card bill using a debit card, they wouldn't receive the payment instantly, the payment has to be processed before they receive the funds.

Same old weak argument again.  I can see what I said is too difficult for you to understand. It doesn't matter if Paypal got the money right away or not. The FACT is Paypal paid the sellers instantly. With MP, it takes forever. And yes, compared to instantly, 5 to 10 days is forever. Therefore, MP is not an improvement. Things are supposed to progress, advance, and get better, not worse . Otherwise, we would all still be using 56k dial up internet, big tube TV's, etc.

Also, what happens if you pay your credit card bill late? That's right, you get charged interest. So if eBay wants to hold sellers payment, they should pay sellers interest on that balance. I think that would be a fair trade-off.

I agree with you 100%. Managing other people's payments as they please is really unthinkable and completely wrong. Now I can't even register for managed payments. I got to the bank account details and from then on I can't continue my registration. What a mess.

I like managed payments. I have been using them for a year now and have had no problems at all. It acts just like a normal credit card processor.

I am with you. I am waiting to see how long it will take the money to get into my account.  The new Ebay formats and managed payments are absolutely terrible. I have been buying and selling on here for 11 years and Ebay has not just gone downhill, it has jumped off the cliff and we seem to be following it. I am not going to ship my items until the money is in my account. Let’s see some buyers get upset over that and join us in our frustration.  In the meantime I am looking at other avenues for buying and selling.

Hi - Nice posting BTW. However, you will (or already have), receive a bunch of "hate" mail. Stick to your guns.  RL

You need to stop stirring people up - that is the height of the meanness you say other posters are guilty of.

Just because it is veiled passively does not mean it  isn't aggressive.

You chose not to switch to MP so how can you possibly say something is good or bad when you have no first hand experience of it?

I love MP - hated PP, lot's of things about eBay I don't like, but the best thing about MP is it will get rid of fly by night scam sellers. That is a plus to buyers and seller alike IMO

I think I may leave ebay myself after being a member since 2008(?/2009?), because it really is outrageous, and there are too many other platforms to sell on now to put up with it. I think they are going to drive away all their sellers with the changes honestly.

Better yet, they charge you the new fees on EVERYTHING about the sale - the shipping, what the items sold for AND the sales tax! You are literally paying FVF on the SALES TAX! For small sales, that brings the total eBay managed payment fees to OVER 25% before you even get to the product itself or what you have to pay for shipping. I had hundreds of listings, and a store , everything. I am letting my listings slide since I mostly sold items under $5. Cut back on buying on here too, because it takes my money a week to get to me, can't even flip correctly. They say they aren't earning interest on our money. Sure. That's why they just got hit with a RICO suit. SMALL SELLERS ARE FINALLY DONE.

Wow. So many eBay shills on here. They must be new or found their new lives while collecting unemployment. The real world will catch them soon enough.

You can't compare pre-Paypal days OVER 20 YEARS ago to this. I started in early 2000. I remember that. Somehow it was better than even this. At least you weren't fee gouged and had time to pay. Now eBay is taking your money before you even ship the item. You're being charged a FVF on the SALES TAX TOO now. Anyone actually bother to look at their fees?

Re: Who else thinks managed payments are awful? Why do we need to wait so long for our money?

I hate it too...They basically just sent us all back to 1998 when you had to wait a week for a money order to get to you as payment. I'm sure the drop shippers that list 100,000 items a month don't mind the new system, but those of us that just sell stuff as a side gig and aren't making a living from it notice it more, I use to only spend on ebay what I made on ebay, the money would go to paypal and I would spend it from there and never mix it with my normal bank account. Now I have the headache of it all getting mixed together, and keeping track of what's spendable ebay money vs money that needs to be left alone....And I'm sure 2 years from now they'll make up with PayPal and we'll all have to switch back, or maybe they'll get a deal with UPS & force us to only ship with them, or maybe they'll make us just use blue tissue paper as packing and no more bubblewrap, who knows what the next senseless change will be, but the one thing we know for a fact is that more dumb changes will come, they always do here....If someone started another auction site and set it up the way ebay use to be they would put ebay out of business in a year

@graphboy

Open a separate account for eBay. It’s so much easier for bookkeeping AND there isn’t a chance of your household account being drained by a clerical error.
