I'm doing my level best to figure out just how the new managed payments is an advantage for sellers. For buyers? Most certainly. For ebay? Absolutely. But for sellers? Ummm..... ppffttt
I have less than 2 weeks to decide whether or not I will continue to use ebay as a selling platform. I hate to give it up after 20 years here, but it might be goodbye for me.

It appears that is does cost us/sellers more. I was previously charged 10% of final sale & shipping but Not the sales tax. Via ebay, sellers are told they will save $ not using PP. Now that ebay is charging 12.35% of sale/shipping/sales tax plus $.30, it is almost the same as PP but now sellers lose 12.35% on sales tax...when we don't collect nor receive it. It is no savings for us and slightly more expensive.
PP paid instantly (ok there can be a dispute, but we never had one) and we put the money in an interest account. Ebay is keeping the seller's money for a few/several days and they can receive the interest. Of course ebay will do well and continue. I am going on vacation and tried to revise our auctions to not relist but could not as I do not have MP...so I ended them. I will give myself time to decide. A shame ebay tried to sell this as the seller's cost would be less. That is part of the mistrust.
Happy selling here or elsewhere.

MP profits Ebay becuase they no longer have to give that money away to PP.
MP helps sellers to sell more with more options to pay. Not everyone uses PP exclusively to buy merchandise here. Many use their phones as well to shop and pay.
NO DOUBLE DISPUTES with PP backdoor chargebacks.
No having to transfer money out of PP
Can link MP account to Godaddy Bookeeping account to make bookeeping and tax time effortless.
Been in this for almost 2 years and have to say they have been running this program pretty immaculately with no glitches to speak of.

It's not that it's hard or scary but why should eBay make getting there funds immediately a priority and make the seller who's making eBay money wait. It's 2021 I shouldn't have to wait 2-6 days for $6. And it seems eBay doesn't want to wait either.
Also in addition to your just accept it. Other platforms that don't pay right away a.k.a. Posh, Mercari there is some sort of protection for the money. Meaning the seller can send the item back before money is transferred to your account.
With eBay's silly system. I send my $6 item and hope for the best. Glad I don't sell $600 items on the regular, can't imagine a high volume seller with 60 day returns and the ****show of eBay putting money in your account taking it out. In addition just about each item has a different % associated to it. Are you going through you 100 sales a month to make sure all the math is correct to the penny?
Those mistakes happen ( yes they happen) and it's much easier to catch when you aren't receiving the correct amount when you are paid immediately for that item. I could go on. But as you said acceptance. Yes I accept that I can complain about this silly payment system as much as I like.

It's a really bad change for Sellers, because giving anyone access to your individual bank account (by ACH) is a Really Bad Idea, in that you then have no way to stop them from taking money out of your bank account.
The underlying problem is most banks don't give individuals the ability to block ACH transactions, only businesses. That means you need a business account with ACH control to protect yourself, and to be aware of the need to manage outgoing ACH transactions.
The bottom line is that eBay now only really cares about doing business with businesses. The days of it being a good individual marketplace are now over.

Greetings, What do you mean by holding back money for taxes? Please excuse my ignorance, but I thought as ebay was collecting the sales tax, it is their liability to pay as they have collected the money.
Thank you,

Ok so I am probably the oldest and not so smart person in this room so I will only give facts I know ( but could be wrong )
Have been with MP for a little over a year
I did this for a retail brick and mortar store for 15 years of the 45 years I was there. Our Bank always recommended a separate account to send paypal to and take out of that. It cost us nothing to transfer and if hacked there was never much in it. So ACH was never a issue. Anything ACH came out of that account. Never our main account
I do that now. I have 2 bank accounts one for this and the A word. And all ACH things, They can never get it all if hacked.
I have my deposit done once a week on Tuesdays. On Tuesdays, it show's pending but my bank says I can draw on it and gives me credit for it. On Wed it is there, Officially , So I look at it as 1 day. Paypal was 1-2.
Now the biggest thing I had for .2019 year I had paypal for about 8 months. In that time I had 6 disputes. Lost all $$$ plus product. 2020 I had MP had 4 disputes never lost a penny. I had every piece of documentation to prove my self. Sure Money was held up but I did get it. Not sure who it cost but I was paid. For that alone I was happy
If your bank is holding your money which some do shop banks. I switched from a bank I did business for 30 years because they started putting holds on funds. It never hurts to shop Banks
I agree MP does not save me money ( or maybe it did on disputes) But it has not cost me anymore either
I just looked and everyone says 2-6 days to be in your account.
I am not defending or saying anyone is wrong or right. But eBay is a BUSINESS like all of us and everyone is trying to make a buck. No one can please everyone all the time

a) accept that PayPal will no longer be an option for receiving payments
Well, that is not true either. After MP pushes the $ into your Bank Account, you can transfer it from your Bank Account into your PayPal account, if you want to. MP is 1000 times better than the previous eBay/PayPal arrangements.
People either never knew or don't remember eBay before PayPal. Back then there was something called Billpoint Inc. through Wells Fargo which pushed each single transaction directly into your bank account for less fees (See Computerworld articles dating back to 2000 (21 years ago). Then Bill Pay (a Money Order system bought through CCs), Google Payments and PayPal (as X dot com) came to the scene to take it away. PayPal won it out by giving people 5 bucks to sign up, and another 5 bucks per referral----that free cash was coming in like droves. But then the dot com bust, PayPal stopped coughing up the free 5'rs, and eventually, eBay bought PayPal. I dreaded when eBay took PayPal and stopped BillPoint. But now with Managed Payments we are back, I'm all for ending the eBay/PayPal arrangement. Billpoint Inc was terrific, MP is equally good.

sorry this is objectively wrong. it is objectively worse.
- there is almost no change in fees or cost
- it now takes several days instead of instantly
there is no other reason it could be 'different'. these are the only REAL changes.

@pburn wrote:Just as an aside, with no substantive bearing on this thread, Apple Pay is only shown to those using the appropriate device. I use a non-Apple device for accessing eBay, so I'm not offered Apple Pay.
That answers my question as to why I don't see it either - even when I thought it was supposed to be in there. That's why I didn't mention it.
But just because you LOOK at something on a non-Apple device, why wouldn't you show it?
02-18-2021 09:43 AM
Can you imagine the complaints if they did show Apple Pay as available, but then a Samsung user couldn't figure out how to pay with it, or a desktop user spent an hour trying to find out how to use Apple Pay for their purchase? For every one of you, there are three that would find the inclusion of the Apple logo to be an affront to all mankind.

I do not know, but I do assume it MAY and will happen with some time, that us Internationals will also eventually have to do as USA residents is having to do these days. I do not as of now know what kind of criteria it may have for effect on me yet, but for the time being I feel like this may just be the end for Sellers everywhere. But then again, I will also have to look into this further when the time is closing in. And will also guess with some time we will be receiving a mail refarding this matter, within the end of this year.

You like waiting for your money?

Do you send items before you get payment?

"bottom line is that eBay now only really cares about doing business with businesses"
McKinsey or some idiot sociopath consulting company probably gave ebay the line about lowhanging fruit, focus on the top 20% and exclude the bottom 80%...
