eBay is a major player in the secondhand sale market and is an integral part of moving merchandise for a seller. However, I'm really getting tired of eBay's managed payment policies. Once again a buyer opened a return. Apparently they purchased a gift and the recipient didn't want it. So now after almost the 30 day return window they decide to return.
Here's the problem, managed payments is withholding my funds from future payouts in the amount of this transaction, which is well over $ 2,000. In my opinion this is an unethical policy and I'm a Top Rated Seller for a reason. I deliver exceptional service and I will refund my customer, once I get the item back in its original condition. So the buyer has until February 17th to return this item and 2 business days have passed by and they have yet to return it. So my funds from future sales are on hold until they return the item an I issue a refund.
Does anyone else agree with this, as unethical business practices on behalf of eBay's managed payments?
I sell on Mercari, Offer Up, and Poshmark, and they don't have these policies in place for returns.
I believe in order to be taken seriously we would have to get over 500,000 sellers or more to boycott eBay. That's the only manner we can be heard. Until then, if I decide to boycott along with a few others, nothing will be done, we are replaceable and expendable.

I just get "buyers" on eBay, not potential buyers with questions and interest.

I am getting more buyers on Mercari. YMMV

Apparently you missed my response that my sales are more than double on Mercari as opposed to eBay. So the views and likes are working out just well.

Anyhow, I don't wish to get into a debate.
Wish everyone well in their sales journey.

Managed payments are yet another way for Ebay to **bleep** sellers. Not only does it take way longer to get paid, the fees they charge are vulgar. I ended an auction early as the listing was not correct. I was charged 127.00 for ending the auction. I have been selling on Ebay since 1994, and have watched as they slowly but surely found and invented new ways to bleed sellers for more money. In the past few years I have started looking for all possible platforms to sell. I have used Poshmark, Mercari, The Real Real, Offer Up, Craigslist, and just about anywhere available. If I thought there was any way to get Ebay to change this, I would definitely pursue it. Unfortunately, I think that pretty much the only option is to leave bay or to bend over and grab your ankles. "Ask me how I really feel."

The longer that Ebay gets to hold your money, the more money they can make off of it. Seems to me like they should maybe have to put the money in a non-interest bearing escrow account while they are taking their time paying you the small amount left after all of the inflated fees. I don't have a ton of money in the bank and waiting a week or more to get paid is very inconvenient for me. Eventually the ever increasing greed of Ebay will run sellers off. There are many more platforms to sell on than there were five years ago. It may not be tomorrow or even next year, but the greed shown by ebay will come back to haunt them.

How do views, questions, and interest pay for groceries?

So the bidding was up over $1,000, and you ended it. eBay still charges the fee because sellers have been ending auctions and selling the item outside of eBay to someone who contacted them through eBay. Their policies warn that you can be charged; they used to let you cancel one per year without a fee. That was in the policy too.

Selling and buying on eBay since 2008
top rated seller. Not happy with the new payment mess. Looks like I may be done with EBay this April. I’m not waiting around to get paid. They want to draw interest on our dollars. Nope. Cutting PayPal out will be EBay’s biggest mistake

Thanks for bringing this thread back up. I see that the OP, who was urging us all to boycott eBay, still has 79 active listings. Why am I not surprised?

If I had a nickel for each one...I'd be rich.

Boycotting won’t hurt ‘em, but I’ve already stopped selling. I want my money when the customer pays, not a week later.

As soon as I get the finalized payment I am closing my account permanently. I have a payment from Feb that has not cleared my bank and they will not help in finding it. Not happy, they keep blaming my bank.

You still have an active listing.
