iOS app upgrade, older versions no longer supported

If you have been notified to update your eBay app, here are the steps to take to get the latest version onto your device. You need to have iOS 14 or higher to get the latest version from the Apple App Store

  • Open the App Store app on your device
  • Search for eBay app in the App Store
  • Select ‘Update’ button next to the eBay app title

Link to Apple App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/cg/app/ebay-buy-sell-and-save-money/id282614216

iOS 12 - If your device is running iOS 12 you might be able to install an older version from the App Store

  • Delete the ebay app from the device
  • Open the app store app
  • Tap account button
  • Tap Purchased
  • Scroll to the eBay app and tap the cloud and down arrow icon

If your device cannot be upgraded to iOS 12 you can use the Safari browser to access ebay.

Thank you and let us know if you have any troubles getting these updates to work.

Re: iOS app no longer supported on older systems

I've been on ebay for 20 years, but suddenly I can no longer use the ebay app on my ipad because it it stuck on IOS 9.3.6. The only solution ebay offer is to use the web version via Safari. That is rubbish, and so it is with regret that I will have to leave ebay and move my many, many purchases onto another platform. There are thousands of people out here in the real word that cannot own the latest hardware, and are mostly happy with their older, but perfectly working, ipads and iphones. ebay needs to take a long hard look at itself and try to comprehend how many of its loyal customers it is pissing off by not supporting older hardware.

Goodbye ebay

Same problem here.  Started yesterday, version expired, update... then when I try says version not available in US.   I even deleted old eBay app, now cannot even get the new app to install.   FIX.  My OS is up to date.

Re: iOS app no longer supported on older systems

To my disappointed I opened the eBay iPad App now and got the message that the version expired and I need to download the latest version.

The link to App Store brings me to the eBay App Page. Trying to downland the app gives me an error. Unfortunately I get the message "unable to purchase" . the new version is not compatible with my iPad.

I have an iPad 4 with version 9.3.6

is there a way to access the last compatible version for 9.3.6 or am I stuck using the web browser version forever?

thanks

Supported, maybe, but did they have to turn off the older version? no ...

Re: iOS app no longer supported on older systems

Waiting until August? Even then, I won't be upgrading a perfectly serviceable piece of equipment "just because" - there's nothing wrong with my current iPad, it's 5 years old and still works fine for over a full day on on one charge.

We cannot environmentally sustain this "must have the latest gadget" economy, and many of us cannot afford the latest gadgets just because.

I will not be replacing my iPad until it fails, and unless eBay reverse its decision, I won't be getting my next one on eBay!

It has stopped on my iOS9 iPad 😞 but I'm guessing you've probably worked out for yourself if yours has also stopped by now ...

Re: iOS app no longer supported on older systems

Hi

perfectly good iPad 3 running 9.3.5 no longer capable of supporting app. Presumptuous of ebay to think I’m going to spend £000’s to get the latest iPad and discard a perfectly good one. Scandalous as we should all be minimising wastage of the earths resources. Use the safari browser they say.... good luck with that, what a clunky thing that is to use.
Time to buy and sell elsewhere.

Re: iOS app no longer supported on older systems

Disappointed. My app has just stopped working, stating update required. Tryed to update - message states updates not avail in UK for my iOS device.  Using iOS9 until a few days ago, for several years with no problems. Many purchases made, some in progress.  Not a happy bunny as it seems this will not be resolved!

Re: iOS app no longer supported on older systems

what were you thinking??? cutting out so many customers? forcing them to upgrade to a version no one cares about? I was so happy with my older version why do you need to me to force to upgrade to a version which isn't compatible with my iPHone? are you nuts? there is absolutely no necessity to do so. I was very happy with the old app and didn't need to use any newer function. I am going to walk away from ebay and with me all my friends are pretty much so upset as I am. Really bad developers. they shouldn't develop even and HTML page leave alone an APP - why do you loop me into the app store which open the app and the app redirect me to the app store? can't your app do anything good? like working?

Re: iOS app no longer supported on older systems

browser is slow and sluggish. The app was working perfectly why breaking it? why forcing customers out of your app? do developers even have a brain on their shoulders? ok develop new app for new os who cares, but leave the old app working and everyone is happy. What's this? Do they gain from apple selling new devices? don't they gain from selling old devices on ebay instead? why would I buy a phone on ebay which isn't compatible with the app itself?

Re: iOS app no longer supported on older systems

this is a joke answer... get your app to work on older devices. You shouldn't stop an app to work out of the blue without any good reason. this is called BAD DEVELOPING. I would fire whoever took this decision on the spot and get someone who can make the service work for the masses, not the richest who can buy a new phone.
