I'm looking at a used camera lens where the seller has not included one of the ebay approved condition options, but rather says this:
Seller goes on to list very specific item conditions. Is this the same as selling as used or does the lack of a ebay approved condition waive buyer protections?
Here's the item: https://www.ebay.com/itm/384761024339

There is ALWAYS buyer protection. Doesn't matter what condition the item is listed in, any buyer can always return within the 30 days with the 'not as described' reason if for some reason it is just that- not as described.
What you really should be doing is sending the seller a question to confirm. If they don't answer, don't buy. Not a seller you want to deal with that does not answer questions.
