automatic checkout

Who else thinks the automatic checkout stinks.  It is a slap in the face that you have to enter payment information just to bid or make an offer.  It double stinks that once you enter the info it is not only for the item you want to bid on they save the info for any other items in the future you want to bid on.  I have not used the "buy it now" method since they changed the checkout to see if you can still opt out of saving the info.  IF SELLERS ARE READING THIS THIS POLICY IT COSTING YOU MONEY!  I am a buyer that buys higher priced cards and I will no longer bid or make an offer under this policy.

They don't require payment before an offer is accepted, they just want a payment source to make sure it gets paid if it's accepted.

Have a great day.

Re: automatic checkout

Yeah, as someone who pretty much always instantly paid unless I purchased multiple items from a seller who offered combined shipping, I loathe this new thing. On top of it feeling practically illegal, a big issue I have is that they don't show all your fees upfront before your payment is submitted nor does it even tell you how much the total it charged you was unless you go out of your way to look (HOW is that not illegal?)

I recently won an item for around $13 with $5 shipping for example, it just said "your payment was processed" or something like that before I could even verify. When I manually went in to check, said my total was $18.... then a few minutes later PayPal, not eBay, told me I was charged around $20.50, eBay's original receipt was even incorrect! (It's showing 20.50 on eBay now).

As someone who has been on eBay for years and never ONCE didn't pay for anything or even has had a single negative feedback, I feel like I am being punished for others who abused the system. Why is this not something that gets applies to people who have had a history of not paying instead of randomly forcing people who have never done anything wrong on it while also randomly not forcing people who have abused it  to not be on it? And again, how can it be legal that it doesn't tell you what the total they auto-charged you is unless you go out of your way to check?

Re: automatic checkout

Thank you for letting us buy your items but you have no idea what the problem is here. I pay within the hour certainly before you box it.

That is a bit silly, if you are going to the trouble of messaging them to let them know that anyway, why not use that message to ask them to unlock that requirement? It is easy enough for a seller to do and most will agree.

Remember a lot of sellers are unware of this being auto applied to their account, so maybe hold off on the petty message about a lost sale....................

Re: automatic checkout

 but I find your type of buyer takes 3 or 4 days to pay

@buybuy42

@siliconalleyelectronics

I don't suppose your ID has been awarded the "new enhancement" with regards to auctions yet.....No more instant pay for you!!!  eBay is extending the time to three days before the buyer starts to get auto-billed for their auction wins.  So instead of the usual 96 hours, they have 72.  You are still free to keep those preferences set to YES, for it will still do the job of discouraging buyers that DO PAY, even though it is just a day's difference.

If a buyer makes you an offer and you accept, no auto billing is going to happen.  The transaction name is changed  to YOU SENT AN OFFER (when you certainly did not, as the buyer sent the offer)  and SELLER SENT YOU AN OFFER (which you did not since you ACCEPTED the offer).   You can accept all the offers you want for the same item, though.  Somebody might pay you, or not, but the item will remain for sale until somebody pays for it.   That is going to be a new wonderful buyer experience when they assumed that when their offer is accepted you agreed to sell it to them.

It would be a good idea to read up on these changes so you recognize when it starts to happen to you.

Re: automatic checkout

Nearly every online store I use shows me what the total will be, WITH tax, shipping, and any other fees before I confirm the purchase. They also don't auto-apply all those and toss them on my card as soon as I click "buy" without the whole process of letting me confirm a payment method first.

Re: automatic checkout

@downunder-61

Petty? Lol

How do you think someone should  feel?

After 1100 purchases on eBay since 2011 and paying for EVERY single purchase within 30 minutes... how should a Buyer feel?

Return Buyers that purchase consistantly and spend money at this site are an asset to the eBay Community. It's a slap in the face.

After being a loyal member and financing this site for years I don't feel letting the Sellers know they lost a sale is petty at all. I am making my voice and opinion heard and that's the point.

Sales are down? Christmas sales down?

Another quarter report with.... MILLIONS less active Buyers? All these great changes but the total amount of Buyers is way down and the stock price can't get out of it's own way?

I keep reading all the "reasons" why all the sales are down... the economy,  schools out, schools in, blah, blah

No one mentions that maybe it's eBay's reputation now? Maybe the general public just doesn't like eBay now? How many listings do you have to promote to make everyone  change their mind?

So you think you can afford another 10-20 million less Buyers to offset your "time wasted on a non payer"

Ebay will raise their fees as they have done to cover the losses. Sellers will end up paying more and selling less. Let's see where eBay is 12 months from now.... I  bet the fees are higher....

The whole time were shopping elsewhere because " our" Community  turned it's nose up at us.

Re: automatic checkout

EBay does seem to need to work out some bugs like making sure they show your sales tax upfront or like in that other thread making it so the seller can't edit the invoice and suddenly charge you more for something after you win an auction.

I've never seen anybody complain about the payment method being required to make an offer on mercari. Probably because that's how it's always been. Change can be hard for people to get used to.

Once eBay fixes all the loose ends I'm sure this will be required for everyone. Give it a year or two and people won't even notice or complain anymore.

I just feel like this is kind of standard practice in the industry and people will get used to it like anything else. Then when it's irritating very few people (because they're used to it) there will be way less non-paying or very late paying buyers. So in the end the community as a whole will probably be less irritated by this change after things shake out.

I only sell things buy it now without offers, and I have always sniped auctions so I immediately pay them within a couple minutes so I really don't have a dog in the fight... this is all just my opinion.

Re: automatic checkout

Not all online retailers combine shipping. Rock Auto comes to mind. Even if it is all on the same order, not everything comes from the same warehouse, so there can be several shipping charges. 🙂

Did you know the pre authorization dollar amount becomes a pending transaction on the potential buyer's charge card & can take up to 30 days to fall off .

When there was some technical problem that occurred between PayPal & ebay, each claimed the other was responsible to resolve the issue &

neither party provided any assistance  so that this alleged "convenient  autopay system" would send an offer to the seller.

Not a happy ebay experience !

I see that as a major issue but surely the Sellers having to wait 4 days to cancel and relist is far more inconveinance than some Buyers cards tied up for months?

Re: automatic checkout

Don't assume most transactions end in nonpayment

Yes, some sellers may be desperate for cash due to poor ebay sales.

Another issue may be how quickly will a seller receive a buyer's payment ?
