automatic checkout

Who else thinks the automatic checkout stinks.  It is a slap in the face that you have to enter payment information just to bid or make an offer.  It double stinks that once you enter the info it is not only for the item you want to bid on they save the info for any other items in the future you want to bid on.  I have not used the "buy it now" method since they changed the checkout to see if you can still opt out of saving the info.  IF SELLERS ARE READING THIS THIS POLICY IT COSTING YOU MONEY!  I am a buyer that buys higher priced cards and I will no longer bid or make an offer under this policy.

If you win the item or do a BIN, you have to pay anyway so what's the big deal?   Or does this take away your sport bidding fun?

I agree, I haven't bought anything that has auto-pay. I've paid for every item I've committed to buy for 20 years, this should only be applied as a punishment to non-payers. Sellers who require this obviously need their items more than I do. Take a look around this forum, you'll see the outrage to this from many buyers.

I think it's sad that some sellers think that everyone who objects to this ill-advised policy is sport-bidding low-life scum. I've been on eBay for 27 years and never failed to pay for a win. But there are downsides to this policy that don't fit into your "no honest buyer should object to this" scenario.

Future growth or decline?

Ebay management needs to remove its blinders & recognize unfriendly buyer policies does matter,& declining sales will negatively affect seller loyalty to ebay, ebay stock prices could eventually be adversly impacted.

I go further - I actually contact the sellers and let them know that requiring payment before the offer is even accepted just cost them a sale.

what happens when I have a gift card or coupon?

And what would those downsides be?

Why? ...................   there is no "payment" if the offer is not accepted.

Having to hope the seller refunds the overage you pay because combined shipping isn't an option. Not being able to use PayPal Credit or Pay in 4. Not being able to use gift cards. Not being able to use coupons. Being locked into the same payment method every time unless you want to jump through hoops to change it every time. Having to deal with sellers who can't see beyond the shiny 'oh gee, I won't have to deal with non-paying bidders' to realize they're losing paying ones in the mix.

Any more questions?

This is an option that sellers can require for their auctions or offer buttons. This is an option because buyer non payment is an extremely common occurrence, and you as a seller are not able to cancel non payment orders until 4 days after the winning bid or offer. This is a problem because it ties up inventory for quite some time, because of this many sellers including myself require payment prior to bids or offers.

Most eveything ebay does is based on the expectation of increasing revenue for ebay.

With respect to ebay autopay, buyers can act & make their voices heard.

Yep! I do this too. Let the Seller know they just lost a sale!

I take it further and let eBay know as well

to date  over 125 transactions did not happen last year due to eBay PrePay update

there are alot of fees on 125 transactions... someone else can pay them

Because of bidders like you, with your new mentality desiring to be free of any pertinent financial guarantee of payment.

I allow you and yours to bid on my items but I find your type of buyer takes 3 or 4 days to pay, when I am boxed and ready to ship the item. We use to call this a wrench in the works.
