Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

How do I stop ebay from automatically charging me for an offer I made after said offer is okayed by the seller?  I don't want it to be automatic, I want the chance to at least decide at that point whether I still need the item  etc.

The same way... eBay has a non-performance seller problem because it doesn't terminate non-performance sellers.......

Re: Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

There is always the option of refunding the difference of shipping costs to the buyer. I have recently been on both ends. Selling a few items to one buyer and refunding them shipping costs ( I don't believe I clicked anything extra special or unusual on my end). I also have bought several items from one seller and am hoping they combine shipping and refund the difference. Came here for answers too. I see Ebay's point but it is frustrating.

Re: Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

This is a pain. I have never back out of an auction even if I change my mind. I made the commitment and I fallow through. Having to pre-select payment is a pain. I dont always pull payment from the same place, so now I have to be prepared with changing things around if I need to in order to even place an offer without even knowing the seller is going to accept it. So it may be pointless on my behalf.  This new process needs to change.

If the argument is people not paying for things, then perhaps you need to start blocking those people and not disrupting the good buyers.

Re: Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

I agree 100%.

I always pay my BIN’s, Best Offers and auction wins within minutes.

I have a credit card on file with PayPal as my primary payment method with my checking account as a backup. I had never even heard of eBay Auto Pay until two Best Offers were accepted last month and they automatically pulled money from my checking account instead of charging my CC.  That seems over the top. At no time have I ever given eBay permission to pull cash out of my checking account and literally question the legality of it.

Re: Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

It’s really annoying this auto pay. I have made a number of offers in one seller all have been accepted but jow I’ve paid for all the postage where the seller would’ve combined 😡😡😡 how do you undo auto pay ?

Re: Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

I definitely believe anyone that makes an offer should be locked in to pay but this auto pay crap has got to go. There is to many negatives for buyers. I use different payment methods depending on what I purchase and this out pay does not allow me to choose certain payment methods. If I purchase multiple items from a seller I shouldn't  have to pay a shipping cost for each item. Most sellers offer combined shipping but you cannot get that with the autopay.

I'm happy to see you're unhappy. My humble advise, don't make offers if you're not sure about buying.

Re: Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

I'd actually forgotten that you didn't pay immediately with an offer, I think this makes sense, because it should be like a Buy It Now sort of thing, you want the item, but at a different price, and here's the money. If i'm the seller, and I have this money I can take now for the item, versus waiting, that's one equation. If it's just, well, I might pay this much money if you agree, or maybe not, that's less binding than a bid, even, because you have to try and retract a bid, and that's not nothing.

If you want to offer without paying immediately, ask seller a question and put an amount in. "If i offered you this, would you accept?"

Re: Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

An unwanted result of the policy is that one can't change the shipping address.  ie, I ordered a gift for someone in another town via an offer, and can't change the shipping address after ebay autimatically charged my Paypal.

Next time, I am likely going to make an offer outside ebay platform, so that I can control the shipping address and other aspects of the Paypal charge, ie which credit card on the account is charged, etc.

I don't use offers, but if I did, and if you messaged me as a buyer wanting to make multiple offers - no way I'd ignore you. I'd either turn off the setting, or if multi item purchases weren't the norm for me I would keep the setting on but I would add your ID to my exemption list.

Since this discussion is still active, I'm posting an update to what I wrote above. eBay recently informed us that adding a buyer to our exemption list will not get around the auto-pay situation for that single buyer. The only option is for the seller to leave the setting on or turn it off for all buyers.

For reference @annettepk - you can change your address for that item on the offer screen before you submit an offer. It's recommended to verify your address before submitting an offer not just because of this auto-pay setting, but because sellers offering 'free shipping' often factor in ship cost to the amount they'll negotiate and shipping address affects ship cost.

Re: Stopping Automatic Payments for Offers

I agree that buyers should have to actually pay once they commit to buy. But the buyer should also be able to choose their preferred payment method for each transaction. I too select different payment methods for different transactions. Perhaps a better solution to deal with non-payers is to automatically charge them a fee if they do not pay within a certain timeframe. That way, as a buyer who always pays, I'm not being penalized for others bad behavior.

I've had no problem selecting different payment methods for each transaction. I have the opportunity before submitting the offer to confirm my preferred payment method. You should be able to do the same @ddupree77 .

Disclaimer: I've only used website, not app, when submitting offers.
