Problem is that many states have laws against this when a governor declares a natural disaster. eBay and the seller become liable and can be sued for it. It is a state to state thing. California is one of them and eBay's headquarters is located in that state.
Yes many states have declared emergencies and reports can be made about price gouging. However, since ebay is doing all it can to remove listings, I seriously doubt any SAG is going to pursue a law suit against ebay.
If ebay held stock for sellers in warehouses/fulfillment centers it would be easier for them to control and put an end to the price gougers. Since ebay has neither of those they have to try to cull the listings out of the millions of items listed-relisted daily. Since they no longer have their own IT dept., changing programing is much more difficult. They have streamlined the Reporting process for Covid related infractions, and are doing their best to remove items.

When you do report the listing, quite often, eBay doesn’t end it.
I reported a listing 3 days ago for masks. It sold for $10,600 today. **bleep**

ebay could risk government over site if they do not do better on this!

What's next. You gonna be mad a concert you want to go to sold out and ticket brokers selling them for more?

Why are all the people complaining relatively new to eBay?
04-05-2020 04:42 PM
Yes, that's what happened to me. I had 2 large packs of TP that I purchased for 11.99 each and started bidding at 9.99 with calculated shipping (to help customers save on shipping). In 45 mins, the bids went to $36. Then my listing was pulled down by eBay for price gouging. Does anyone else see the other side of this? Keep an open mind here:
I started the bidding well BELOW my own cost, time energy and effort. Some people are out of their regular jobs and trying to supplant their incomes by trying to sell here. This is a marketplace after all.
Now I see other folks saying their craft listings and all kinds of things are being taken down, most likely by a bot.

I have discovered on thing in the short time I’ve been here. People have way too much time on their hands if they get their thrills being the Toilet Paper Police.
People need to get mad at the stores who don’t enforce limits. This spending all day on EBay reporting Toilet Paper Crime is getting out of hand. Some people can’t find it anywhere else and are willing to spend the money. If you can’t do that go complain to your store for not limiting it. I’d like to be able to buy some before I run out and every time I see some I want the listing shuts down.
I am beyond frustrated.
