Seller got a case opened against him, but not by me. How to complain to ebay?

I bought a couple video games from a regular ebay seller, whom I dealt with for years. Never been an issue. I had two items I had paid for, but since he was on holiday I knew it would take some time before getting them shipped. No problem for me. When he came back the items was sent and they arrived, as promised.

However seller says that me (I didn't do anything) or ebay has opened a claim against him for the two games.

He wants me to contact ebay and tell them they done a mistake, but I can't find any way to message them or email them. It just goes into a loop of things that is not actually the case: Refund, Returns, etc.

What to do?

If you go to your purchase history and don’t see any open cases, then it’s not your responsibility to  intervene on whatever sort of  case eBay supposedly opened. I would ignore that sellers request.

@andromedagalaxy,

There is no way to contact ebay about this issue.  eBay did not open a claim against the seller, what they probably did was to give them defects on their account for late shipping.  If the seller does not have a "Store" on ebay they cannot put their items on a Holiday/Vacation hold. They are expected to ship within their normal handling time frame. If they have a store and you saw a note on the listing page saying "The seller will be away until July 30, 2023",  for example.

Then they will have to try and contact ebay on their own.   If you open one of the listings you bought from and look in the seller's information boxes in the right hand column and see:

Then they do not have a store otherwise there would be another line saying Visit store under Contact seller.   Even if they added their own note to their listings, saying they would be away, it does not stop ebay from giving them an automatic defect for late shipping.

How the seller can contact ebay would depend on the country they live in.  Since you have posted your concern on the U.S. site's community (ebay.com)  we do not know what ways Europeans have to contact ebay.

Why not message the seller and tell him to check his information carefully, since you've not opened a case against him?

You don't need a store.  There is a time away feature that can be used. I used it back in May when my daughter had surgery and I put time away for two weeks.

Re: Seller got a case opened against him, but not by me. How to complain to ebay?

I could not write him as he had taken his store down while on holiday. The store, which normally have 1000+ items showed 0 items for sale as it said "seller will be back + date". I could write him, but got an auto reply "seller is not available until xx.xx.xxx date".

I knew he would come back and waited until then. He shipped and everything turned out fine, for me. Apparently he still had to struggle with the ebay system even after I left him positive feedback.

I even proved to him by screenshots that I had opened no claims from my end. IDK how it turned out. He he is on another holiday atm, so will have to wait until he returns. lol.

Yes he had taken down the store, as you say, that is possible. Ebay even sent out automatic messages when I tried write to the store, saying when he would return.

Still after I had gotten the items, left positive feedback and proved to him by screenshots from my order details, that no claim was sent from me, he still had to struggle with the ebay strike to his store.

I just hope it sorted itself out. He is on another holiday atm, so will have to wait asking him when he returns.

Sounds like he may have been hit for some defects for not sending out packages on time, even though you were happy enough, sellers need to send by the handling time they state.

As others have stated, this seems to be an issue with shipping times where the seller has not met  ebay's expectations.  You are not part of that equation.  It's between the seller and ebay.  The seller shouldn't be expecting you to fix things.
