Received email with triplethrill coupon code- Not Working

Greetings,

I received an Ebay email today about a ebay 15.00 off coupon (use thripethrill) up to 3 x  for purchase over 75.00 etc..

So, I tried using this code on pc and then again in app on phone and both times it says, Ooops, looks like this code is not working etc..

Why does ebay send these coupon emails if they dont even work?

Same for me tried on PC and in phone, both say invalid even though I got the targeted email about it.

I called ebay and they said the coupon isn’t from them, it’s a scam. So if you clicked the link and tried to sign in, you probably gave them your login info. Change your password asap.

All email info seems legitimate (i.e. email appears to come from ebay), and they even use my account name. Either ebay got hacked, or it's from them.
Code doesn't work for me either. Not happy.

When you clicked the shop now button did you stay on the page of eligible items or did you by any chance fallow their suggestions in a active listing to a promoted item. Or perhaps there were promoted items in the list that were not eligible. Have you tried adding different items to your cart. Then see if the coupon will apply in the cart. This may sound dumb but did you double check the date for the coupon eBay may have sent the email out too soon.

Email says coupon is valid from November 12 to November 21.
Eligible items exclude several categories, items I tried (tried several) were not from those categories. Moreover, typically it says something like "code can't be applied to items in your cart" rather than "code is incorrect".

If it was a scam how come this email even shows my last searchs on ebay?

I received the targeted email as well and the coupon is not working on anything. The email is from legit ebay id.

Just found a thread of people for whom the coupon failed, they contacted ebay and nowhere does it state ebay claimed it's a scam. So I have no idea what the guy who claimed it's a scam is talking about.
