these bad actors have no idea how much they will spend to save their hide with attorney costs. Even if they try to claim their innocence there is no way in court the jury would have sympathy for them. They better have saved 1000's of dollars in retainer fees.

Yes because that was the intent. If you check their sold listings from before the crisis started and they did not sell these items previously then the sole purpose of auctions was to get the most money they could. Otherwise they could have listed them at a normal fixed price. They saw an opportunity to make money and purchased items that were needed in their own community to sell online. That's why eBay should ban all listings for these essential items. If you take away the incentive to make money then this will stop.

It is disgusting. We are in a crisis and paper products are extremely hard to find. I have parents in their 90”s and need tissues because of medication. They have been buying tons of tissues for years and now cannot find any. Think about seniors before you price gouge! These sellers should be ashamed of themselves.

Not to mention that it’s despicable to take advantage of people in need especially in the midst of a world wide crisis. You have NO morals!

It is a CRIME!
And people who are doing it on eBay should be permanently removed.

California Governor Newsom is reporting they are out of toilet paper. Please take a moment to send him a message about piratebay here allowing over 100,000 listings now for "toilet paper". I'm seeing 12 dollar walmart toilet paper now selling for 150 dollars. These people should be removed and banned let alone the attorney general offices get on it.
https://govapps.gov.ca.gov/gov40mail/
I think if we get enough messages going to Governor Newsom that he will make a point to call them and tell them to fix it yesterday. The compliance department has replied to me they are working on it but when I see we have gone from 20,000 listings to over 100,000 listings for toilet paper now I believe ebay has been hiding some of the listings in the past with their filtering they do.
here is a 12 dollar package selling for 5x the normal retail price. In total they have around 10+ packages for sale right now. Who knows how many he/she has already sold before these new listings.

Why is toilet paper and other face
masks not being banned from price gauging? I see tons of sellers trying to sale single rolls of toilet paper or more for ridiculous prices.

State laws vary. Even if eBay has deemed the product is not off limits eBay is making money from the sale anyway. Therefor eBay is 100% culpable. eBay can and will be sued in a court of law. The attorney general does NOT need to file charges. A lawyer can simply file a civil suit on behalf of an individual, individuals in individual trials or represent a class of victims, such as a class action suit. In the state of California this can yield fines of $5000 or more, per transaction. So someone selling a $10 bottle of bleach for $30 in guilty and for each bottle sold the seller and eBay can be sued for $5000, plus be fined by the state for $10,000. If the seller sold 100 bottles from or in California that is a total of $1,000,000 in damages. The statute applies to the following major necessities: lodging (including permanent or temporary rental housing, hotels, motels, and mobilehomes); food and drink (including food and drink for animals); emergency supplies such as water, flashlights, radios, batteries, candles, blankets, soaps, diapers, temporary shelters, tape, toiletries, plywood, nails, and hammers; and medical supplies such as prescription and nonprescription medications, bandages, gauze, isopropyl alcohol, and antibacterial products. Bleach is an antibacterial product. GUILTY! A $5000 fine per transaction. New York state also has such laws. Over 30 states have anti-price gouging laws. Read the definitions and language of these laws carefully. Some misguided profiteers claim that a state state of emergency is required. FALSE. In some states a national state of emergency is the same thing. I am sure that eBay's attorneys will be further reviewing other products. I am sure numerous other attorneys are diligently gathering case material together to bring legal actions against Amazon & eBay. One individual case opens the door to a class action suit, and with over 30 state laws, and numerous products think 100s of class action lawsuits. If eBay should lose your purchase history that is destruction of evidence, so take screenshots.

Take screenshots of the listings and save them. Lawyers are circling like buzzards right now. When it is all over and done, most of the damages recovered will be from civil actions, such as class action lawsuits. One individual lawsuit win opens the floodgates for a class action suit. California alone could yield $10,000 per transaction, or for every $40 sale of a $2 bottle of hand sanitizer both the seller and eBay can be sued for $5000. It doesn't mean anyone will be guaranteed to win, but lawsuits are not cheap. If some jerk sells 5000 bottles of hand sanitizer eBay takes their percentage, so eBay is also guilty. Multiply 5000 x $10,000. That is $50,000,000. A law firm can make over $20,000,000 off of that lawsuit. The BBB is a total joke, and the attorney general's offices cannot do nearly the damage of a good legal firm in a civil suit, and California, New York, New Jersey, etc. all provide for civil damages. California is the most lucrative state. Cheesy New York only allows $500 per transaction. In a civil suit, damages could exceed $500 per. If a jury decides $20,000 seems fair, so it shall be. There will likely be an appeal, but it all hurts the bottom lines of eBay & Amazon. If eBay is going to profit from price gouging it's only fair that eBay pays the price too. Juries are generally not very forgiving to the likes of eBay or Amazon, especially in cases like these.

report bureau of consumer affairs, now in the crisis price gouging is being taken more seriously then ever, not to mention people are selling things like hand sanitizer 100 percent mark up , which ebay has just banned as prohibitive item, and price gouging can be a felony in most states , so you see it report it , for those who defend this practice they are obviously among those inflating prices to suit their own gains
