I thought I had id these whiskey tumblers before but now lost it. Etched
retriever in high grass, signed "BANKS" on the lower back in the etch.
Measure 3 1/2" high and 2 1/2" at the top rim.
I've been striking out finding any information about this English
(Staffordshire ?) cup & saucer set. Imari style design from the 2nd half
19th century. Marked "HASTINGS JAPAN" in an underglaze blue cartouche.
Red hand painted production number "453 ...
I looked through my references and thought this would be an easy id, but
...The under gold blank mark is for Fraureuth, but don't recognize the
cojoined blue mark.md1919, got anything?
This looks alot like Fostoria's "Quadrangle" No. 2546 but I don't think
they made a double candle holder. 7" across the arms, 5 1/2" x 4" at the
base. Any ideas? TIA!
Hi George, Thanks for your input. These are a plate etch, like the
Elegant Depression companies did. Yes, Banks is the wildlife artist, I
just can't put a finger on his work or who adapted these to 1940's /
1950's (?) glassware.
Even from the hard to see detail in the pics, it appears cut, not
pressed (not EAPG). IMHO, Eastern European (Czech / Poland), relatively
contemporary. Going to be a tough id.
Form is "pot de creme" with lovely reticulated base. The Rococo inspired
decor is often referred to as "Watteau"Unfortunately, a number of
decorating studios used the pictured mark during the late 19th century.
