Finally, an official explanation to the outrageous USPS DELIVERY DELAYS

https://www.businessinsider.com/postmaster-general-carriers-leave-mail-delays-routes-usps-postal-ser...

After a heated confrontation with my postmaster today about why the USPS is trying to destroy my business with record delays and missing packages, he finally offered an explanation that wasn't the usual excuse or denial.  I've been able to confirm what he told me.  The new PG in an effort to cut costs has banned all overtime throughout the USPS and has instructed employees to just let mail sit until they are caught up enough to get to it, without charging overtime.  We are officially screwed.

I just registered an account with UPS and will use them for items over $25 and see if I can absorb the additional shipping costs.  At least I'll have my sanity, God willing.  I cannot spend one more day apologizing for late deliveries.

Re: Finally, an official explanation to the outrageous USPS DELIVERY DELAYS

I have had three Priority ("guaranteed" 3-day delivery) packages be four days late recently.   An overseas package is now at 31 days and counting.  Please don't try to excuse this stuff - people are not getting what they are paying for.

Re: Finally, an official explanation to the outrageous USPS DELIVERY DELAYS

From what I can tell this was going on prior to the new PMG taking over.

Use priority, deliver to the PO;  Not picked up.  Tracking is being lost on pick up for some reason.

Have the PO do a trace if gets stuck. Can be done by your local PO if you have the receipt with number.

Insure everything, and file for it when you have to refund due to lost mail.

If cost effective let eBay decide case and then refund. If item is delivered then file an appeal to case showing item delivered.  Note this can effect your seller status.

If refund is given, do an intercept if cost efficient. Runs about $15.00.

Re: Finally, an official explanation to the outrageous USPS DELIVERY DELAYS

Exactly! My mail lady is also working overtime as before. A few days ago, she said that "yesterday we had 500 pieces of mail, and today is 2600".

The issue is to find people with good ethics, and those who can work in such hot weather in the most part of the country. But this is not new.

And even before the pandemic, I was told by a new supervisor to drive my packages to Office Depot. Thank god, main office has a star employee secretary (who`s been there for 30+ years), and she was outraged by that. Free pick up is included with printed labels. But I am sure that new supervisor (who is also a delivery person) makes her own rules to mess up USPS.

That`s Trump fault! No doubt. As lja440 would tell you and copy and paste his TDS rant in every USPS related topic.

Re: Finally, an official explanation to the outrageous USPS DELIVERY DELAYS

So... background... I get my items scanned everyday at the PO. I never have more than a handful and I get scan receipts and have 100% on time deliveries. (all covid late issues have been not counted, ebay has been taking them off without me having to do anything.

Today at my DAILY trip to the PO (same worker who know me) takes my one package and just THROWS it in the bin behind her!! What?! The?! HECK!? I am like, ummm, I need a receipt... I am floored and in shock. She says "they have been  scanning them in the back" I start to talk but she already got it and its on the scale, I say "so ya, I need it scanned for today, sometimes it doesn't get scanned until after it arrives in the city and it's after  12am, I need it to be shown for today" as I talk she is fumbling with the computer, then I see she picks it up puts it down on the scale again (they do this often as if doesn't read weight)  then I see she put her stamper and a roll of tape on the scale with my item... again I am shocked...  huh what is she doing????! why is she making the weight more?!! It is 3.2 oz with a 4oz label... its not so light that it wont read...  Well, she gives me the receipt and it shows it scanned TWICE! One at 3.2 oz and one at 5.2. I guess they are being sloppy and not caring about what they are doing with our mail, and it will fall on us. I am not happy at all. I see this clerk 5 days a week, she knows me and even complimented me before on how nice I am...   guess I need to rethink being nice lol

Re: Finally, an official explanation to the outrageous USPS DELIVERY DELAYS

Been buying and selling periodically with ebay for over 20 years now, but just really started selling off a lot of my old collections and setup an ebay store, selling at a higher volume for the first time this summer. I've been doing pretty well and just a couple weeks ago made it to "Power Seller" level for the first time...and right after I make it to that level, I find I'm one more "late" package from losing it already, despite mailing every single order I've ever shipped on the same or next day after payment received. Mailperson picks up packages, and since the last few weeks, it may be 3 or more days before it even gets an acceptance scan.  One shipment went nearly a week w/ no acceptance scan. I finally filed my first claim on that one and it magically was found and scanned within an half-hour of the claim...at my local post office. It had sat there for a week with zero movement. (In all that two-day "Priority" package took 13 days to be delivered.) During that same week that it sat there, I had several other packages get picked up, scanned, moved along, and even delivered. There's no rhyme or reason. I've started adding a small disclaimer to my listings to this effect, but that doesn't help any with ebay's tracking metrics. As far as they can tell from monitoring the tracking, no acceptance scans apparently make it look like I'm not bothering to ship on time. As a relative newbie to selling at this level, I'm not sure how you can even appeal that situation to ebay, but seems like they need to loosen some metric, given the situation.

Re: Finally, an official explanation to the outrageous USPS DELIVERY DELAYS

How exactly is that an official answer?

You linked to a BusinessInsider article that uses the Washington Post as a source. It also says it uses three anonymous sources that spoke to the Washington Post as sources.

Before reading anything online consider the source and the agenda they may be pushing!

The Washington Post is owned by Amazon's founder Jeff "Bozo" and is a well known anti Trump publication. If you check; for example, Yahoo's news feed you'll also see a lot of other anti Trump articles being run by the BusinessInsider.

"The new PG in an effort to cut costs has banned all overtime throughout the USPS and has instructed employees to just let mail sit until they are caught up enough to get to it, without charging overtime."

You obviously didn't even bother to read the article.

No, the mail is not going to pile up more and more each day until employees manage to get to it. It means the mail going to go out the next day! The same thing occurs in thousands of private companies each day!

Even the article state this:

"If you get mail late and your carriers are gone and you cannot get the mail out without OT, it will remain for the next day."

You realize that both UPS & FedEx use USPS to deliver items?

You realize that USPS's largest contractor is FedEx, who moves USPS's time sensitive packages on its fleet of planes?

Ask Congress why they forced USPS to fund retiree costs for 75 years into the future in 2006? USPS was forced to set aside up to $110 billion in a span of 10 years. USPS has lost money for 13 years straight and most of those loses have been due to this retirement funding mandate. In 2019; for instance, 83% of USPS's $8.8 billion loss was due to this mandate!

Ask eBay and Amazon why they abused a 1969 UPU designed to help developing poor countries. Instead they used it for their Chinese vendors to destroy American jobs and cost USPS billions in loses. Hypocritical that we have a newspaper owned by Amazon's founder being critical of Trump's efforts to save the post office when Amazon's own efforts caused USPS to loose billions.

Saturday delivery has been suspended in 1947 for some cities due to budget problems. In 1957 it was temporarily suspended nationwide. Parcel Post Saturday delivery was suspended in over 6,000 cities from May 1964 to January 1966 due to budget concerns.

You realize that when the Post Office was created its rates only included delivery from one post office to another post office? Free delivery to a limited number of city addresses was not introduced until 1863 when local revenues would cover expenses. By 1880 it was offered in 104 cities and 796 cities by 1900. Free rural delivery was not experimented with until 1896 and did not become permanent until 1902. Parcel Post was added in 1913.

The article you linked to smells of Trump Derangement Syndrome rather than any rational facts.

Re: Finally, an official explanation to the outrageous USPS DELIVERY DELAYS

Trump Derangement Syndrome!

The Universal Postal Union was established in 1874 to govern the interchange of mail between countries.

When mail is sent from one country to another country the country completing the delivery receives part of the fees paid by the customer in the originating country.

In 1969 a program was created by the UPU to encourage trade from developing countries by allowing them to more easily export items via their mail system. Developing countries would be given discounted international postal rates by developed countries. This was essentially a subsidy of postal rates for these less developed countries - a form of foreign aid. Even with this discount for certain countries USPS always made money on foreign mail.

The problem with this agreement was that China was considered a developing country. China was neither a developing nation in 1969 or in 2010 when eBay decided to abuse the intent of this agreement.

In 2010 eBay was the prime negotiator for a tri-party agreement between eBay, China Post & USPS. This agreement allowed Chinese vendors on eBay to create eBay branded labels to ship their items to the U.S. using these ultra cheap postal rates.

This program allowed packages of up to 4.4 pounds to be sent to the U.S., with these packages being classified as First Class Mail once they reached the U.S. The public was told this program was needed to create income for USPS. The public was told that these Chinese packages would help offset the income USPS had lost due to declining domestic first class volume.

Those were complete lies!

USPS was actually losing money on each package. This program was only running for approximately 1/2 of 2010 yet USPS saw it profits on foreign mail drop dramatically. By 2011, and every year since, USPS lost increasing amounts on foreign mail due to abuse of this program. Other companies such Amazon then copied eBay's abuse of this program. Annual loses increased each year and reached over $300 million. This abuse cost USPS billion sin loses.

Chinese companies were thus allowed to dump goods into the U.S. while bankrupting USPS and destroying American jobs. All this was done so eBay & Amazon could earn commissions off these sales. USPS made up for the loses by raising its rates which in turn earned eBay more money off shipping fees. USPS also made up for loses by cutting services.

In 2006, Congress passed a law that requires USPS to prefund 75 years worth of retiree health benefits in the span of just 10 years at a cost of $110 billion. No other government agency or business is required to do this. The public was told that this money was be collected for future USPS retirees, but the funds are instead being diverted to help pay down the national debt. Like money paid into social security all these years the money is not actually sitting in an account earning interest - its already been spent by Congress with a IOU being given in return.

USPS had lost money for 13 years straight and most of those loses have been due to this retirement funding mandate. In 2019; for instance, 83% of USPS's $8.8 billion loss was due to this bill.

Who has rejected major postal reform for years due to the political contributions from companies such as eBay, Amazon, UPS, FedEx and others? Congress does!

For eight years Obama ignored all calls to put an end to this UPU abuse which has cost USPS billions in loses. For 8 years Obama did nothing about ending the retirement mandate form Congress. Yet Obama has the nerve to suggest that Trump is trying to undermined the post office when Obama is quality of that charge for 8 years.

Within months of being contacted by concerned citizens about the abuse of the UPU program Trump warned other countries that the U.S. would withdrawal from the UPU if these abuses were not ended. When they did not listen Trump began the 1 year withdrawal process as established under treaty. Facing with losing access to the world's largest economy via the mail system the other countries agreed to end the abusive rates. Trump saved USPS from losing further billions from stopping this abuse alone.

There is a world wide pandemic and you are complaining about packages being delayed?

Makes one wonder why God does not unleash a new pandemic every day as a lesson.
