Can money be made buying and selling coins?

Hi, I am new to the group and new to coins. I know that people pay crazy money for coins.(Of course most of the coins I see are certified MS 62-68/errors) So what is the best way to turn a profit? I need to start out small (like pennies) Bought a few wheat rolls off ebay. But nothing too special. Can't get burned to bad with those. Anyone in it for the money? Suggestions?

Re: Can money be made buying and selling coins?

Yes...!  Especially if a seller can find and purchase a batch of Reichenau 1727 Kreuzers or Batzen.  Buy low - sell higher.  Heron was a full time 'dealer' for several years prior to finding eBay in spring of 1998.  Heron made some really good 'buys' at coin & paper money expos whilst Mrs Heron was watching the 'table'.  Sometimes the best buys were made with dealers that only sold USA coins.  They were ok with the idea of selling all their foreign items in one transaction.  And sometimes it is fun and profitable to experiment with 'new' items.  For example: on a combination vacation and business trip to Costa Rica, el Heron purchased 700 Costa Rican coffee plantation tokens.  What did Heron know about Costa Rican coffee plantation tokens?  Not much or we could say almost NADA.  Heron and Mrs Heron visited the University of Costa Rica San Jose.  We found the book store.  There were several booklet issues of history and with many pictures of various coffee plantation tokens.  Actually the most common types.  Heron studied these booklets and became knowledgeable about the tokens.

So, when we discovered these booklets we bought a batch of them. Yes, they added a bit of weight to the luggage but it was worth the trouble.

A very nice ROI on the tokens and the booklets. (The booklets were all Spanish language.  There are may folks connected to coins and tokens that are bi-lingual English and Spanish.  And they were willing to pay.

Heron also sold to customers in Europe, via eBay, many tokens, including the Costa Rican coffee plantation tokens.)

There are many ways to increase the ROI in this hobby/business. However, selling ordinary items that are being sold by hundreds of other 'internet dealers' is not a good way to make a profit. This is Opinion.

That was a very thoughtful and interesting reply.  The constant third person narrative was..........distracting.
