I had to check tracking just now and found this tidbit.
"Your item is eligible for USPS Tracking Plus. This feature allows you to buy extended access to your tracking history and receive a statement via email upon request. Without this feature, your regular tracking history is only available on this site until June 7, 2026. To extend your access to this tracking history, select the length of time you would like and confirm your selection. You can only purchase extended history once, so all orders are final and are not eligible for a refund."
It seems to mean we'll have to pay for tracking information.

I don’t think that’s new. It’s just a USPS feature, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it before.

I've seen that before.........so don't think it's new....... Tracking is still available (free) for a certain time......you can get extended (longer) access to the tracking if you pay for it.........

The time limit is not new.

I believe:
They don't mean things are changing in June; it means that the tracking for the item you ship TODAY is only avail till then.
Who needs it any longer than then anyway?

Visa allows a buyer to file a item not received chargeback up to 540 days after purchase.

There are situations where proof of delivery could be needed after the usual 6 month period. Payment disputes CAN happen after 6 months and there are other situations (completely unrelated to eBay) when proof of delivery is needed for this extended period of time.

...and the USPS has found a way to monetize it.
Gone are the days when they only archived the tracking instead of deleting it, and you could request the tracking later if you needed it back on-line, for which they promised to make it available within four hours of the request being made.

I suspect that the main users of this type of service would be law firms.

tracking plus has been a "optional" service for quite some time, nothing is changing

It's been available for a while, but way too expensive to use for every shipment, and of course you have zero clue where you MAY need it for longer for a dispute.
